I'll claim I'm a fast rider, hit by injury 100m from the start
In reality I''l be a slow rider struggling a bit with hotfoot from training in mtb shoes that ended up with warped soles round the cleat after a number of long rides.
I'm still waiting for new ones from a certain shop near St Clements that said on Tuesday last week they would arrive in three working days so I wolud have enough time to change them if they were the wrong size. Hmmmm......

Thanks - blue/bdark blue Aeron frame, mudguards, black drops and rack with smallish bag. What I wil be wearing may depend on what is in Aldis tomorrow but probably red top, baggy shorts. 50-ish.
Slightly worried at the moment - my first 100; I did 75 miles no problems a couple of weeks ago but ten days ago the foot pain at 55 miles was really unpleasant - I'll just have to see how it goes.

I emailed the organiser yesterday about the location of the food/drink stops. He said that they will be stationed every 20 miles or so in church halls. The villlages he mentioned were Alderton, Friston, Peasenhall and Debenham.
Hope this helps0 -

It says that start times will be staggered, fastest leaving first, to try and prevent congestion at the ferries. No detailed information at all.0 -

Heres the text from the email
Because of the popularity of this ride, registration will now be open from 5.30 until 9.00. Please note that the ferry (15 miles into the ride) is ours exclusively until 10.00 am. To minimise possible congestion at the ferry we would suggest that the faster, more competitive riders might like to register as early as possible. Please be ‘ferry’ patient!0 -
Thanks!

We're planning to be away about 6.15, hopefully no ferry que at this time...www.icenivelo.co.uk - Norfolks most inclusive cycling club0

Markos, apologies for not being there at 8am. My dog sitter kindly let me down so I had to go for an earlier start.
How did you get on? Somehow I managed to go off route about 7 miles from home, went round in 6hrs 10mins
John, how did you get on?
Was a great day for the ride, looking forward to 2010.0 -
Fto-si,
I had my share of detours as well - some of those arrows were not that visible, not to mention me following a small group for over half a mile going completely the wrong direction from the start. Not sure how long it took them to realise - they just disappeared into the distance!
Thanks for the ferry leg escort - I ended up doing 105 miles in 7hrs 22mins. Not earthshattering but at my age, pretty pleasing for a first 100. Last ten miles were hard work - I was running on empty.
Cheers
John0 -
Enjoyed the Suffolk today, only gripe was the signs on some of the junctions, you were on top of them before you saw them. Other than that a good day out.www.icenivelo.co.uk - Norfolks most inclusive cycling club0

I had a really good run, I met up with Markos and we left at 8:30 after hanging about incase anyone else turned up... took a couple of wrong turns, one at Felxistowe - we wanted to make it harder by going the long way up the coast to the ferry and almost an hour wait for the ferry took the piss a bit, we were freezing and the boats were tiny... I hopefully no one fell in!!
But once we got away again it was really good, I was struggling to keep up with Markos as he is a quick rider, had cramp twice as ive only been riding since Jan and never ridden more than 30 miles yet, had a numb ass and was completely knackered 5 miles from Woodbridge, but I made it in 3 hrs 30, cover 53 miles and averaged 14.7. Im very proud of my legs today!!
Will hopefully go for the 100 next year!!
Shame you guys left earlier, would have been good to all meet up, and I was parked 2 cars from your FTO Si.....Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0 -

That's what FTO-SI and I did, plus I missed a sign at Charsfield later. Re the "wrong turn" start I mentioned above, I'm wondering now if the group I followed was doing the 50 in reverse to avoid ferry queues. Plus I overtook a couple at Cransford only to end up behind them the other side of Framlingham so they either missed a sign or or just cut off the slight dog leg there.

I am soooo tired. Its taken me a couple of hours to summon up the energy to come on here.
The ride was good, I loved the beautiful counrtyside. I was impressed by the number of hills even though they were pretty gentle(except after 80 miles when any hill is a Ventoux)
Signage was appalling, apart from covering 107 miles due to detours i missed the 40 mile refreshment stop completely and had to run on empty to the one at 66 miles.
Nice people at the stop though.
I enjoyed riding with Gavin, chapeau young man, very good ride to go further and faster than you have done before(including sightseeing around Felixstowe!)
Time wise I managed 6hrs 20 mins, not bad as the first 40 were with Gavin at 15mph, I had to pick it up quite a lot to get that time and I was preying for a major mechanical so I could get a lift back. I soon perked up and finished fairly strongly. I have taken off the time for the ferry which was totally ridiculous, an hour to get across, me and Gav were freezing by the time we got across. I dread to think how long it took the people at the back of the queue.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Im not sure if you guys noticed but when we got off the ferry and went round the first corner there was a guy taking pic's on the right... having a quick check and they are going to have the pics on the website soon, hopefully I looked like a pro as I went round the cornerCycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

I missed one somewhere
I'll admit to missing 3  all in the first 50 or so miles, I was riding with my mate, probably too much chatting and not paying enough attention, I went off on my own at about 52 miles, never missed a junction, I was really concentrating by that time thoughwww.icenivelo.co.uk - Norfolks most inclusive cycling club0 -
Did anyone else find it a bit lonely on the course, I seemed to be riding on my own for hours. In fact from the rest stop at 66 miles till about 90 miles I only saw 4 people! I know that there was only about 400 people on the two routes so I can accept that, its just after doing the Norwich last year with nearly 3000 riders it seemed strange.
Shame we couldn't go around together Si, I reckon we could have broken 6 hrs if I had someone to work with over the last part of the course.
Gold medal of the day must surely go to the chap who I passed at 95 miles riding a rusty old butchers bike, I could hear it creaking from 1/2 a mile away!
Definatly do it next year despite the ferry and signage problems.
Hope some of you guys are going to come to my neck of the woods and do the Norwich 50/100Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Have to agree there Markos, once we hit the 50 / 100 split there was 3 people in front of me, i quickly passed them and I was on my own till the finish line, I couldnt see anyone in front or behind... i kept thinking that i was going the wrong way!!Cycling never gets any easier, you just go faster - Greg LeMond0

+1 on that, spoke to the guy at the end, it was a 80 or 100 year old bike, has always been in the family. Picked it up, it was heavy. He managed 14/15 mph average which I think is very respectable.Fixed, commute: Langster 08, FCN6
Road : Aravis (byercycles) Shimano 105 triple
Hybrid: Trek 7.2 FX, unused / unloved0 -

You weren't the guy on a single riding with his wife who was on a Trek? If you were you get the silver for riding a single.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

No, I was guy with the Sesame St jersey, riding a triple. Never saw the single. Am possibly going to take the fixed on the Dun-Run in July - changing back from 80" to 70" though.Fixed, commute: Langster 08, FCN6

Thank god for that! I went passed him then started to blow up on a hill and I could feel him breathing down my neck, thankfully the downhill section after I was able to leave him with some Kamikazi riding. :oops:Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Got to agree with feeling lonely, I rode down to the ferry with John and once across the river the low number of cyclists kept making me think I was on the wrong route.
It was a shame we didn't ride together Markos as looking at our times they were almost identical so we must have a similar pace.
I am up for it next year, it's gone up to £25, but will be wanting to leave early because I don't fancy waiting an hour for the ferry like you poor guys did!
Regarding the Norwich 100 do you need to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship like we did for the Sunrise or is the only requirement the registration fee?0 -

It does say you need to raise £25 for the Norwich 100 but they aren't very strict about it. To be honest I can't see where the money goes as there is no food and only one rest stop for each course. There are marshalls but as far as I know they are volunteers.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

I had a very lonley last 48 miles, passed a couple of riders befor the 66 mile food station, a guy on a Cove mtb, a guy on an orange Trek and anothe chap on a road bike with a Camelback on, after the stop I passed a guy on a single speed Trek and that was it.
I was passed by the couple in the Pearsons kit, they punctured and I passed them back, then they came past me but I was unable to go with them, I was churning along about 22mph they were doing more like 24 and I just couldn't keep with them but I finished before them as they got lost or took a wrong turn in Woodbridge
As markos said it ss nothing like the Norwich 100 where there is a constant flow of riders to either chase or get on to the wheel of as they come past.
Probably not the best course for attempting to set a best time on either, it was fairly tight on some of those back roads and some of the junctions had a nice coating of gravel
