I'm keen, if only to stop me from setting off too quickly as I have a tendancy to do that on big rides. I'm not sure what time we can set off as that info doesn't seem to be on the site but I plan to complete in 6-7 hours so I would like to get started around 8am at the latest.

I think you can start very early hence the ride being called Sunrise, I seem to remember reading about last years ride where some entrants watched the sun rise at felixstowe.
8am sounds good to me and I am looking to complete in the same sort of time as you.

8am sounds good to me. Also, does anyone know if the route is clearly marked or will you need to keep stopping to check the map to get round, and what food / drink will be available on the route - A pint with burger and chips or something more appropriate :D

Gav, as far as I know the route is clearly marked. With a large group of cyclists participating you will soon see where everyone is heading.
Not sure about food, not really intending to stop for any but then again its all included in the registration fee so I may aswell eat my moneys worth!

Well, I've been following the beginners training guide for 100 miles on the Action Medical Research site and tomorrow it's out along the Waveney Valley to Beccles and back to the Debenham area for a 75 mile trip, which will be my longest ever ride. I did 50 last weekend along part of this route and didn't see a single other cyclist.

Anyone seeing someone with a greying beard on a blue Ridley Aeron, give me a wave!

I did over 150 miles over last weekend in training for this but I have paid the price with stiff legs for most of the week. Got to do 75 on sunday but part of that will be with my club(usually a 50mile ride) so I got to be carefull not to overdo it so close to the event.

I see there are some usefull FAQ's on the site now, not least what food will be available at the stops

    Ok, it's getting close.
Who is interested in meeting up on the morning of the ride?
We need to decide when and how we are going to recognise each other!

Will be riding a black/silver/white Orbea Onix with my name on the chainstays, wearing(if the weather is ok) an Euskatel jersey. Car might be a 09 silver Golf or a 07 grey Focus(no I'm not a moneybags jus tthe Focus was in a crash and is being fixed)

Thats good, I only live a few miles away so I can get there at a similar time.
I will be riding black/white Orbea Orca and if weather is ok ( fingers crossed ) will be wearing black/white. Car will be red Mitsubishi FTO and thats a very impractical car to carry a bike around in..lol

Anyone know what time the fast riders set off? I would like to leave fairy early to give myself as much time as possible but the event faq says there is a staggered start with the fastest riders setting off first. I don't want to turn up at 6 to 7am only to find I have to wait.

We're promised more info in a few days time so I'm just being impatient!

We need to drop our daughter off first at 7am, so we should be at the football ground for 8am, hopefully earlier...

We are local so riding to the football ground, I will be on a white Saracen Tour 3 (its no Orbea  ) and if the weather is ok wearing black and white. I will be with my girlfriend who will be on a black and yellow Scott Montana MTB and probably wearing black and yellow.

  • Disappointingly, I'm going to have to miss it now. But on the bright side, I became an uncle today and will be visiting my niece in Lancashire that weekend. I won't be getting back until late Sunday.

Hope you guys have a smashing ride out.

Just a thought, how long is the ferry ride? and how long might we have to queue for it?

Not to sure how long we will be on the ferry but the distance between felixstowe and bawdsey is only small, I am sure i read that there will be two ferries working which will speed things up.

Done my final preperation ride today, the long range weather forecast predicts we will get wet next weekend aswell

Markos, what sort of time are you aiming to complete the ride in?

Ride time I'm hoping to get under six hours depending on course conditions(wind/rain etc)
Did 60miles yesterday with the club at nearly 18mph ave, not bad considering the wind on the way to Holt was very fresh. Over 25mph on the way back :D and a mad 30mph final 10mile burn up back nto Norwich  hardly a gently level 2 preperation for sunday!

Thats good, I am aiming for 6 hours aswell, I done a solo 70 miles today averaging 17mph so we should be evenly matched.

Good, I'm hoping we can pick a few other similar riders on the way to share the work, if so it should be a breeze
I take it from the profile map its going to be fairly flat. Any suprises that you know of?
I plan to take a 10min or so rest at the half way just to refill bottles, unfil bladder and have some food, how about you?

I have cycled probably 70% of the route in the past and driven on the majority of the rest and there are no surprises, just gentle inclines.
I am ok with stopping at the half way point, or closest refreshment stop to it for a refill and a munch.

All's well then, just pray for some decent weather and I'll see you there.

Im a long way off that solo so its a good job im not doing the 100  Anyway, we did a 30 mile reccy last night round the Rendlesham Forest area and riding at my girlfirends pace we managed............................................. wait for it.............................................. 9 mph average!! :?

Im sure we will see you at the start, maybe at the ferry if its delayed and then at the finish line, you will probably finish at the same time as us, and we are doing the 50 mile route :D

Weather is looking ok at the moment, dry during the morning, maybe rain during the afternoon...but isnt that everyday in this country!! LOL

There's a bit more here on food http://www.action.org.uk/files/suffolk_sunrise_FAQs.pdf

I haven't received the letter either and still don't know what times they give for the fast riders to leave first. I have to hope they'll have gone by 7am!

I would imagine that riders will be leaving at start times of their choosing. The organisers have made no indication as to what time they require people to start in relation to their pace.

    Well, the faq says:

    Q. What time will the ride start?
    A. Registration is open at 5.30am – 9am. We are operating a staggered start with fastest riders leaving first. You will be sent this information in a newsletter a week before the ride.
