Didn't know about it until you posted it, many thanks for that. I will enter if work commitments allow. It will be a good time to start my goal of at least 5 100 mile events this season.

Well, keep me posted if you decide to register.
I know the majority of the route well and it's a fairly gentle ride. If the weather is good then it will be a great day.

Could be tempted if work / personal commitments allow. Plus I need to build my fitness up for it!

Is there a course map for it?

Yes, click on the link i put in the orginal post and you will see a further link taking you to a map of the 100 mile route. Basically its Woodbridge down to Felixstowe, over the river then up the east coast to roughly Walberswick, inland again to Debenham then back to Woodbridge.

I used to live in Thorpeness so I know alot of the route. Where are you based in Suffolk?

If you look at the site they have a 16 week training plan to get you up to distance in time. I'm sure that you would be fine as the course looks pretty easy to me and with breaks for ferry crossings you will have time to recover.

You are spot on Markos, the course is pretty easy, nothing to mention in the way of climbs.

Go for it Gav, you have time on your side and if you have any questions on the route give me a PM , I know most of it very well

Chatted to the missus about it last time and she is really keen aswell, so looks like we are both going to sign up for it providing I dont have any work commitments. I will need to check nearer the time but fingers crossed nothing will crop up!!

The missus has a MTB with big nobbly tires, and is relatively unfit.. well, more unfit than me and im not great! She is keen to give it a go though. We are going to be getting in some training and see how we get on, ive downloaded the training guide which looks really good..

Do they have a maximum time to complete the course in, we may need it!!

Getting a bit excited about it now being our first sportive :D

Good for you two Gave & missus. Treat her to some slick tyres to up her speed and improve motivation. Don't worry about speed/time if you do the training you will be fine. Get the fluids and food right on the day and a easy pace that you can keep going, you will complete ok. Most new riders make the mistake of going too fast at the start and blowing up half way round. We should all meet up before/after, after all there isn't many of us East Anglians on the forum :)

  • I'm near Christchurch Park. Riding, probably a bit dissapointing. this, a Specialized Allez (oh and it's a triple!). Pretty old one too. BUT, it's my 50th birthday in March so something more special may well be coming my way soon.

Nowt wrong with an Allez. So if you are based near the park where do you usually ride?

If you are looking for a bike for your 50th, check out Elmy Cycles on St.Helens St, probably best selection in Ipswich.

Would have to agree, but make sure you have a big limit on your credit card as the bikes in there are lovely.... I could easily spend £2,000 or more..

Revolution on Foxhall Rd is also worth checking out.

  • Got lots of routes, no set pattern really, but usually avoid going South. Usually West or North. There's lots of routes here that seem to cover most rides:

    ...and here..

Some are a bit short, but you cqan mix and match.

    Thanks for the links

Last year I spent alot of time riding out towards Bury St.Edmunds area sometimes going from there down to Sudbury and then back to Ipswich via Stoke by Nayland and Higham but for a change of scenery and the chance to ride some tougher climbs ( not that anything in Suffolk has the right to be called a climb! :D ) I have been cycling around in Constable country and venturing into Essex.

The link below is this weekends ride, weather permitiing!

Im hoping to do a night ride over the weekend out to Kirton and back weather permitting, its about half your distance though, and ive just bought myself a hi vis top from JJB in town for £10... bargain.

I dont expect my attempt at it tomorrow to be anything miraculous! I have to be up at 5.00am to do 4 hours work, the weather is not really going to be favourable and I am not really firing on all cyclinders at present ( should never of rested in december  ) so putting all that together I will be happy with an average of 16mph.

I am registered also, once you do it then you realise its time to get fit!

As far as sponsorship goes I am only looking to raise the minimum and anything over will be a bonus, should easily raise that through family and friends.

Did you opt for the 50 or 100 mile route?
