We need LiTs to confirm a few things mentioned above when she gets back from her European sojourn.
1. Paying for room and food? We aren't going to know how much till everybody arrives, how do we know when everybody has arrived?
2 RE the above, do we give the glamourous blonde in the beanie the cash as we walk in the room?
3. Can we take our bikes into the room and stop them getting cold/nicked. Don't want to let my bike get coldI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
From the last "official" role call the number of attendants was 21 I believe which would mean about £5 each for the room (£100 charge for room) and the food agreed on in the food options pool was the Indian Buffet which I *think* was £13 each so your looking at £18 for food and room by my reckoning.
I also do think we have permission to take the bikes inside. From last weeks drinks there where quite a few non-SCRer's bikes already chained up to the fences around the Morpeth when I got there at 17:30, so whilst there is space outside for those happy to chain bikes up out there we still have the room as an option - but you might have to carry it upstairs and I'm not actually sure where the stairs are in relation to the entrances.........0 -
That cost sounds OK but some won't be eating, just drinking and being sociable. We'll have to wait for LiT to sort the final details next week.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

OK, so...
I've got to confirm final numbers to the Morpeth tomorrow, so the final numbers are 20 for drinks and food, and 21 coming. The only one not having food is Litts...
It's £5 for the room, and the curry is £12 a head, so £17 each in total apart from Litts. I'll put it on the CC, so cash on the night is fine, but please no cheques - I am hopeless at paying them in.
If there are any changes to the below please let me know before midday tomorrow.
Here is the current list:
1. Jen
2. Stephen (ITB)
3. Mark (BJUK)

Good organisational effort, LiT, and looking forward to meeting you allEmerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0

If anyone else shows up, they also pay their cash and it goes to buying LiT drinks
And if any of the above DON'T show up, and they haven't taken themselves off the list by midday tomorrow, they pay up their £17 anyway. Deal?0 -

Sounds fair, and then we'll hold drag races up and down Millbank (turn around @ Lambeth Roundabout!) for their food :-)0 -

This is soemthing I raised earlier but was quickly shot down - and I still think its a vaild point. I go expecting to pay £20 (this is what I expected to pay before I learned about room hire, which was immediately prior to this post - not that paying is a problem...).
What happens if only 10 people arrive? While its all fine and dandy making a deal of 'still having to pay' over the internet (a nice measure I'm sure) you cannot guarantee assurances. So realistically do the 10 people in attendance have to pay double = £34?
Again I have no problems if its a yes I just want it to be made clear so everyone knows where they stand, are not blindsided with a 'its not £17 its now £34' request for money and/or LiTs isn't out of pocket potentailly £170 (if 10 people don't attend) at the end of the night.
(Not sure about anyone elses finances but I'd be pissed if I was £50+ out of pocket...)
I also think we should pay when we get through the door so it eliminates the potential for racing off early before having to pay... I'm sure no one will do this, you're all nice people and all that jazz but the potential for it to happen is still there...
Can I get a receipt? - Ok that was a joke.... :roll:Food Chain number = 4

So to perhaps take a more cautious approach, rather than get people to notify if they're *not* coming, let's get everyone to confirm that they *are* coming?

Is that a yes then? :P0 -
OK, well the way I see it is that (and I mean no unkindness or disrespect or implication in any way that they wouldn't show up) from the list above, the only ones who haven't posted a great deal latterly are numbers 4, 14 (although she did reply to the food thread), 15 and 19.
I really do want to emphasize very strongly that I don't wish to defame their character or anything like that, in fact it's probably a positive reflection that they don't have time on their hands to post on here all the time like the rest of us.
Saying that, it is possible they have added their name a while ago and forgotten about it, or other similar slip-up with no malicious intent.
So, perhaps it's a good idea if I do the numbers presuming that 3 of those 4 don't appear...
What do people think? It would only add 50p to the overall price to go from 21 people to 18 - the £5 for the room isn't actually accurate.
Also - DDD - it's less than £20... £16.75 (if we count 21) to be exact. Perhaps I misread your post, but just wanted to make that clear!
Thoughts welcomed...0 -
That sounds great LiT.
At the end of the day, a buffet for 20 people will not provide *exactly* the specific amount of food needed for 20 people. Some will always eat more, some less, and there's bound to be either plenty left over or not enough.
If we order for 18, based on your assumption, we at least know much we'll all be paying, and if more turn up, and if we run out of food, well, I'm sure we can buy some more...:D

Any chance I could join you chaps for a drink only? I can't make food - would love to, but got my club annual dinner on Sunday - but would like to come for a couple of drinks, although I'm not sure whether I'm going to be here this weekened or not.
Do I fall into the Litts category and bring cash on the night or am I in a separate column headed "Awkward G*its"? :oops:FCN 2-4.

Of course you can CJ!
If you make it along then just bring £5-ish (if we divide by 19 it's £5.25 for the room), and if not then no worries!
I don't want to end up making a profit out of this...
So let's call it a fiver for the room. Makes life easier.
EDIT: Or is that unreasonable if you're only coming for one or two? I don't know...0 -

I want to make some things clear:
I'm not trying to insult, defame or imply that any individuals intend upon malicious intent. I'm not bothered by how much or how little anyone decides to eat. I'm not bothered should anyone seek to make a profit. Cost and the price charged (as long as the latter is made clear) is the business of any event organiser. I'm not trying to accuse anyone of attempting to make a profit.
I'm not trying to argue the semantics of cost right down to something as little as rounding up (or down) to the nearest whole number or unit of 10.
All I’m asking is this:
"If less (a lot less) people turn up than expected will the people who do attend have to pay the difference?"
Commonsense is telling me yes, but still...
This will be the third time I've met people from the net and the first time I've committed any money arrangements with people, most of whom I've never met. Sure faith and being positive is the way forward but so is prudence and clarity, which is why I asked the question. I don’t understand how asking that question is unreasonable.
As this is likely to be my last post on the matter, if I haven’t said it already; L_i_t thank you for all the effort and time you have put into organising this, it wasn’t my intention to offend you if I have.Food Chain number = 4

DDD, I think the thing here is that those of us telling you to 'keep the faith' actually have met the people who I didn't include in my four numbers who hadn't posted.
Of the 18 (19 with CJ) that I'm 100% happy will turn up, the only one I haven't met is RedVee whose posting has been so prolific that I'm very confident he will show!
I think that's why most of us are pretty confident. I hope that puts your mind at rest a bit more.
The 'making a profit' was not aimed at you in any way, by the way, nor were any of the other bits of my post! And I'm pretty thick-skinned.0 -

Ultra Marathons, Sportives, Multi Hour Turbo Sessions, Iron Man Triathlons are all unlikely but within the bounds of possibility.
Explaining the accruals concept to a marketing manager is a futile exercise and will only end up in heartbreak
Edit - No I wasn't sure what a trialathon was either“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
