I'm too intimidated by the general level of wit and intelligence, not to mention cycling keenness and fitness, to attend.
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

I wouldn't be to worried about most of those, they are all generally effected by the drinks consumed :-)0 -

So, I have finally made contact with the Morpeth Arms, confirmed the booking for the 28th and sent back a couple of questions about their food options... including whether we could get a curry buffet from Millbank Spice.
Also asked whether they have a suggestion on where we can store the bikes.
Oh, and this is me... see, not a girl at all...

Just used Gmaps for the route from Paddington and walking it says 1hr 7mins for the 3.3 miles  I reckon on about 50mins. Is Hyde Park lit at night? Looks like one option I've got is West Carriage Drive & Serpentine Road.
Phew that's just stupid, gmaps that is not you, I'll be coming into Paddington for the event, I work in London so know the route pretty well and the 2 miles from Paddington to my office in SoHo takes 7 mins lights/traffic permitting. Anyway why don't we meet up and cycle down together, the invite open to anyone else coming in from the 'Great West' - as for the Morpeth there are railings outside that we usually use, normal risks apply.
Plus you'll just love cycling around the west end - I advise soft drinks only on the train if it's your first time

I think you mean "could" to which the answer is a resounding "no." Imagine scalping someone whilst pulling a wheelie...- 2023 Vielo V+1

Being a somewhat part attender of the site i feel I should up my profile and get my bottom down the preferred SCR hostelry but I have family commitments that week. I have already told my wife & daughter that I will not be attending my kids extended 2nd weekend of birthday celebration in order to go and shift huge piles of junk in my fathers house in Cheltenham with my sister.
If I told everyone I would rather go to the SCR chrimbo do I rather feel my wife would drive over my bikes...!
I know I should get the thing that sits on my saddle down to meet my fellow gamers. Nothing like scoping out the opposition at close quarters through the bottom of a glass, but it won't be on the 28th sadly.
I hope you all have a blast and get home safely........![1]Ribble winter special

That would be excellent! I can't do wheelies either. MTB types can sometimes... MTB types?0 -
I've tried but alas it seems my personal weight ratios get in the way, however I can bunny hop quite well and have done a couple of times on my road bikes (pot holes etc).Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

My brother can bunny hop my crappy roadie on the spot without being clipped in, and wheelie it.

I'm one of those responsible for the discrepancy. Not sure yet if I can make it.FCN 2-4.

Aha, I was about to do the very same thing, only for a different purpose - food options!
Here are the options I received from the Morpeth:10 platters should be enough for 25 people at £99.50 total
Finger buffet options begin at £8 per head so for 25 people £200
3 course sit down meal with 3 choice of starter, main and desert £21.50 per head so total £537.5
Indian buffet £12 per head to include rice Poppadoms chutney naan and choice of curry total £300
What do you guys reckon? Or, as another option, we could always try booking a table at the indian round the corner...
Thoughts welcomed.
Please.

I prefer the idea of drinks then going for a curry, but I guess if we've booked a room at the Morpeth anyway, it's going to make a lot more sense to stay and eat there.
I'd choose the Indian buffet at the Morpeth.0 -
On the food front I think booking in at the Indian round the corner would be a impractical. It was lovely last time but I'm not to sure where we could leave 20+ bikes!
Of the options available at Morpeth I'm most tempted by Indian buffet, although a 3 course meal option looks good value! It would mean about £25 each with the room booking fee on top (based on 21 attending) by my quick calculations.......0 -
The indian buffet is only £12 a head, and the room is £100, so the total cost for room and food would be £17...
What I don't know is what's available and how good it will be...
EDIT: just spoken to them, and we can have 2 or 3 different curries within the price given...
Still doesn't necessarily mean they'll be good!
Oh and she said that we can chain bikes to the railings or take them up to the room as we prefer. However, there's no bar in the room itself, so drinks would need to be purchased downstairs. Just so people are aware.0 -
To avoid a massive faff, could you set up a new poll with food options on it? That way there's no confusion and consensus wins.0

Looking at reviews online it appears the Morpeth food is up to the usual Young's standard. As I don't usually eat at many pubs and pay even less attention to which chain runs em I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing :-)0 -

And bring them down covered in beer, curry, vomit, and beer & curry vomit.
Awesome! Bagsy first go at the Prince!
Disclaimer: I have had to hose vomit off one of my old bikes, and my bike shoes. I don't recommend the whole vomit + bike thing.0
