  • Aaaaaaaanyway....

If anyone has any objection to my ordering food for 18, shout.

I have also PM'd the four people who post that little bit less than us sadcases, hopefully they'll get back to me!

Due to some unfortunate scheduling I'm looking to get there around 6:45 now and in all probability I'll be a bit hot so I'm gonna try and pack another top in my bag to change when I get there!

Late arrivals will be subjected to boos and hisses and perhaps the odd sharp remark, you have been warned.

Oh and letting the air out of your tyre(s) faking a flat is not an excuse!

Ultra Marathons, Sportives, Multi Hour Turbo Sessions, Iron Man Triathlons are all unlikely but within the bounds of possibility.

Explaining the accruals concept to a marketing manager is a futile exercise and will only end up in heartbreak

Edit - No I wasn't sure what a trialathon was either

I once ate a curry in 90 seconds whilst my friends we're busy arguing with the management, fear of losing one's curry is a great motivator

Of the 18 (19 with CJ) that I'm 100% happy will turn up, the only one I haven't met is RedVee whose posting has been so prolific that I'm very confident he will show!

Miss a chance to see LiT unsober and scalping her on leaving the pub, not likely. Got the train ticket sat beside me now. My only worry is getting the bikes indoors, I'll have 3 locks with me but prefer to let my bike smell the curry before not after
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Ah yes, I forgot to answer that question.

Cheers LiT, as you're going to be the first to arrive, mine's a fosters , no doubt you'll end up getting a drink or two from one or two attendees.

    Hi all,

Due to going up to Cardiff for Wales V Australia I very much doubt I will make it (probably travelling on friday night). So please could you not expect me. Sorry I will miss you all but have a great time.

If i do manage to pop in I will pay room fee cash and ignore the curry.

    Have fun!

I have a meeting in the old GLC building at Waterloo on Friday until 4.30. I cannot decide whether to bring my bike there and ride after the meeting to the Mopeth (hence the do you cycle to meetings thread) or leave it at work and after the meeting go back to work, get changed and ride to the Mopeth.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Life is hard for me...

    Oh and before I forget.

Will there be a vegetarian option with the buffet? Is it too late to make a request for a wheat-free option? Is the meat Halal? Can I have someone holding my hand throughout the night and several of the SCR ladies feeding me grapes. - All of which are jokes.

    Sorry for being a pain.

Who has bought new cycle gear for this? Go on admit it!

I'm going to pop into Evans and see what full finger gloves they have in my size, not for the party but cause I need them though I have bought a T-Shirt for the do which now features in my avatar.

  • D3, the meal is FRIDAY, so having a meeting on Thursday shouldn't really be to much of an issue. BTW if you don't bring a bike you ain't coming in

If your meeting is indeed on the Friday I'd suggest a gentle ride there and then head to Morpeth after that, via Waterloo Bridge so you can take in more of the Embankment :-)

With the timing of my journey, I'm going to be on the Embankment around 17:10 and planning on scalping a few :D If you see a denim clad MTBer with a high vis bomber jacket start pedalling furiously

Looking forward to this. The non SCR punters are gonna wonder why so many lycra clad people are heading upstairs...

Well an afternoon on the basics would appear to be more than most of the financial sector have ever received.

Yeah the meeting is actually Friday, same as the meal. I told my Manager ages ago that I have an out of work commitment and any meeting he arranges on that day (this being the Board and Council) is going to see me leaving at 5pm, latest. Priorities people.

As for riding on the Embankment to the Mopeth. I've been thinking about this. It'll be fun, I'm sure. But if I go back to work and empty my bag of work clothes, shoes, lunch box etc and carry just the essentials I'll be light for the ride back home. The ride back is where its going to matter. I'm going to potentially have you, Greg66, Jen J and whoever else is heading South on the way back home and I want to have the best oppurtunity to scalp and not be scalped.

I imagine Friday to be like how the Klingons did it in Deep Space 9 (Star Trek) drinking blood wine and getting drunk. celebrating as a test of endurance before a glorious battle. "Friday will be a good day to Die!!!"

  • Welcome back James :-)
It does look like it's gonna be a good evening, however scalping oppurtunities and my route home will be largely determined by the amount of alcohol I've consumed. I need just enough to take the edge off the pain but not enough to impair my riding! If I have to much I *might* have to resort to a train back to a local station and then ride home from there :-(

I agree your logic is not wrong. Whatever time we finish its going to be late and its likely the road will be slippery. I'm riding safe first and fast secondly.

But Greg mostly heads in my direction and Jen J lives a few roads away fom me.... I'm going to have to scalp the crap out of Jen while negotiating safe cycling.

No way am I logging on to the site on Monday to chants of "I scalped DDD!" especially from a girl!!!

Sadly (for me) I can guarantee that I will be doing no scalping on the way home.

As for being scalped...not if I can sneak off early...

  • I don't want tp disappoint you DDD, but there's a very high chance I'll be cabbing it home. I can hardly walk at the moment; were it for for a work commitment I can't break I'd be at home this week.

    Good. God. Alive.

I'm picturing your desk/work station as something close to the seats Luke Skywalker and Han Solo sat in whilst in the M. Falcon blasting away at those short-range Imperial fighters.

Let me know if you want me to take the bikes out for a ride every other day so they doesn't get all irritable and what not.

    Ha ha.

Point of fact, I've just hauled myself off the floor, having spent the last half an hour there reading stuff because my (orthopaedic) chair became unbearable.

CJ, you can probably guess what sort of immutable work commitment I have for the next two days that I'm not looking forward to...

Hope you get one sympathetic to your plight. And don't forget those painkillers.

  • A further suggestion for an award on Friday.

If someone who owns tape measure (there's evidence on the SCR thread that there are plenty who do), we could have conclusive proof for the....

"SCR thigh of the year" accolade.

    We could also have:

"SCR highest GI" award too although I'm sure there is only one contender here.

I'd expect to be a serious contender for SCR thigh of the year!

In fact I really hope we do have this award, probably be the only one I'll come close to winning.

In saying that I saw a beautiful girl on a Specialized Dolce on Coldharbor lane this morning around 8:55. As I turned off and got a properly look at her pedal technique, I realised that she was in possession of some mighty woman thighs - she was in cycle tights :D

For me to scalp someone, it would have to be over a 20 hour race, when the scalpee would fall asleep through the sheer boredom of riding slowly, at which point I would make my move.

  • L-i-T - sorry for arriving late! Snooks pointed out the thread to me so was going to come and join you all for a drink - would be good to put a few more names to faces following on from Freewheel... Plus, potentially moving with work to an office on Old Street so I may be going the SCR fun (not many scalps heading out of town)

Happy to contribute a fiver to the funds, can't stay for food so I won't complicate arrangements hopefully.
  • I'll be scalping no one, I've put the light tourer away and switched to my none-too-fast hub geared hybrid for the winter so my scalp's not even a scalp to most of you anyway...
