Yeah but my MTB shoes have big rubber grips and I can put a foot down on a smooth road or gravel etc. and know it's not going to slide. I can walk a fair way too. Nice.

You could have got the road spd pedals ,A520 and A530, I think. They look more like road pedals although some bike snobs still don`t like them. Richard Hallett never uses anything else, even for racing.

The cost of a new bike doesn't end when you get it home, does it ???!!!

You forgot: White bar tape, new matching SPD shoes, helmet, jerseys, socks etc. Bottle and cage. Drinks and powders etc. to put in it. Muc-off and assorted cleaning accessories. Lock. Lights. Pump for on bike. Track pump for at home. CO2 pump if you're lazy like me. Shorter ratio cassette for when you're faster. GPS. Heart monitor. I could go on.

You're right ! How can I have been so remiss? To make amends, in between posts this afternoon I have ordered:

    lezyne-PRESSUREDRIVE-ind.jpg
and, so that my old commuter doesn't feel *too* left out, I added
    transfil%20outer%20gear%20casing%20ind.jpg
    and
    lifeline-4576-ind.jpg

Where will it all end

Very true, I considered an offer I had proposed to me by someone on here for their spd-sl pedals and those nike shoes with the carbon soles. It was tempting untill I thought about any other surface other than the pedal itself and posibly a rubber mat.

The rubber grips on the my spd shoes still don't appreciate laminite flooring if it's been a bit wet on the way home though

Well it was sunny when I fitted them, but as I tightened them up, a cloud came over, the birds stopped singing and there was a clap of thunder as I torqued up each pedal.

Now when I ride, the traffic parts before me like the Red Sea, other cyclists drop to their knees and the potholes in the road clench tight as I pass over.

Big thanks to Wiggle - the items above were ordered yesterday afternoon, and delivered - for free - at 8am this morning. Apologies to the postman for looking quite so bleary eyed, I hadn't even had my first cup of coffee !

Oh, and they send me a packet of Haribo too :-)

  • I just got these monstrosities:

    nalini-liq-bsh-zoom.jpg

Not because of any affinity with the Liquigas team or their riders but simply because the vile shade of lime green matches my bike.

Does this mean I am now part of the hi viz undead army?

While I was at it, I ordered one of these, plus a load of refills:

am I right in thinking with co2 adapters like that, you've got to have it on the valve before you put in the canister, because all the co2 comes out the minute it's screwed in?

Word to the wise Shoulder - don't buy the cartridges from innovations, get them from here:
    http://www.tyreinflators.co.uk/co2-cartridges-16gm/mosa-16gm-threaded-co2-box-of-10/prod_240.html

    Far cheaper.

Is it safe to click the link, or will it go straight to porn?

  • @Il Principe

thanks for the tip, you're right far cheaper than wiggle. I have now saved that link but hopefully it will be quite a while before I need to replenish my stocks...

I have one of those air chucks (same make, diff model) and it only opens it's valve when you push it hard on the presta. I don't get the claimed inflation pressure but I get a lot more air in than I can manage with a little mini pump. (80psi I seem to recall, into a 23x700c.) No drama it just works.

Refills are available from LBS, wiggle, chain reaction etc.

Thanks! Just got some from them, now I can actually try out my little inflatey thing.

Also got some cartridges for my soda siphon, and my paintball gun! Hurrah!

Don`t make my mistake, wear gloves when you use them on the bike or it takes a layer of skin off. :(

The Innovations cartridges get their CO2 from a volcanic source. I had a quick suck on one after I'd used it and it tasted pretty sulfurous. CO2 would also be an industrial by-product.

If you're using them in soda it's really important you get food-safe ones, there could be any old crap contaminating it.

Thanks, I did wonder. The ones from these guys were labelled as soda-specific.

    Get one of these: http://www.tyreinflators.co.uk/cls-tyre-inflators/mosa-charger-comfort-grip-disposable-/prod_124.html

No idea why it says dispose after use though, I've been using mine for 2 years now, no probs! But yeah, bare hands + Co2 = PAIN.

They were out of stock when I bought my cylinders off them , i`ll get some next time I need CO2. The innovation ones come with nothing, not even a warning.

I just took a fingerless glove off and used it to grip the cartridge.

A temperature down to -78.5C is possible when discharging a CO2 bottle. So not quite a case of MTFU, you are likely to stick to it and either get frostbite if you don't let go, or loose a few layers of skin if you do.

Can you still get sodastreams then? Excellent! 8) LiT do you invent your own drinks by mixing up the different syrups?

You do Laurel and Hardy re-enactments at the weekend?

Or do you put flat soda in them?

That brings back some memories. My parents used to have a syphon. I wasn't really bothered about drinking it, I liked charging it though. Can you still get them? Very 70's. Yeah baby.

Definitely - look on the ebay! I use them because I like fizzy water, but soda stream gas cartridges are pricey.
