  • Ive been thinking about getting some Carradice bags so travelled over this morning as it’s only 25 mins away.

It’s proper old school, set in an old mill with the kit made by hand, I had a wander round whilst they found the bags I was after and it’s feels very personal.
Anyhow, they found me rack bag for the commuter with a slight mark which I wouldn’t have noticed and let me have it for £25!

I also picked up one of these for the gravel bike for timeout with my boy.

Not bought anything of interest for some time, so have jut ordered the last pair of these from Tredz:
    89134_1_Zoom.jpg

£250 down to £150 (£3 bonus through TCB + 3% cashback as well should take it down to £145) - only a 44 left, and reviews say they may be a bit narrow, so time will tell.

If you're moving from a hammer drill to SDS it's a game changer!

Never a truer word spoken. Where I was taking an hour to put up a wheel hook at the weekend, I just did six in an hour. Awesome.

I too have a very high opinion of the SDS drill - my only issue is the lack of small 4mm bits, I'm pretty sure they simply do not exist, and I don't know why.
I appreciate you can use a different drill, or use one of those chuck adaptors, but why not simply manufacture all the drill bits anyone could ever want?
Or perhaps there is some technical issue I am unaware of.

SDS drills are really only needed for masonary work and generally in conjunction with the hammer setting. So a 5.5mm masonary bit is good for a red raw plug. And anything smaller than that isn’t really required.

What do you need the 4mm bit for?

Massive spike in the number of shed / garage burglaries round here recently (or at least I'm becoming more aware of it) so I've spent a shoot tonne of cash on wall anchors, motorbike security chains, padlocks and new hasp / staples for the doors.

Chain is jumping on chainring so a new one of those ordered from the Wiggle place in Ireland on Thursday dinnertime and in my hands Friday morning at the local Collect+ place. A new chain and cassette already in the cupboard for fitting over the weekend. Hardly surprising the chain is jumping, it's done 4000 miles.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Same price as RRP of 5600 in 2007

Edit not RRP but what I paid from wiggle
  • Polaris Bar bag for the commute bike as all of the weight was to the rear, which with it’s fairly upright position was making the bike feel a bit unbalanced.

Felt a lot better, and even with a full load didn’t feel as heavy. Which must be where the weight is vs absolutely, either way bike feels a lot better and less of a lump now!

Snagged the last of these from Wiggle in this colourway (cheaper than the black or "fire red" versions)
    sportful-r-and-d-light.jpg
I have the original version in medium which is now officially "tight" on me and have fancied the grey one for quite some time. Only issue is there seems to be more of the Polartec Alpha insulation on this 'improved' version, including right across the back of the shoulders and the side panels compared with the original....which was a sublime bit of kit. Wonder if this one might be too warm. Large seems a decent fit in this one, which I'd also read sized up a little smaller. Looks like its turning colder from tomorrow so today's delivery was well-timed
EDIT: rode 40 miles in this today, in temps around 5 to 8 degrees. Although the large is probably a fraction too big on me if I'm honest, it performs brilliantly and seems at least as breathable as my original R&D Wind Jersey. This version does feel a little more substantial and "jacket-like", if thats even a thing, so not sure the R&D Wind Jersey and R&D Light Jacket are strictly comparable. This may of course simply be a case of me trying to justify to myself I could keep both! Will be interesting to see how it copes closer to zero degrees at the weekend....

Ultrasonic parts cleaner and 50 chain pins. I'm going to clean my chain every week and cassette every month this year and see if I can get a bit more life out of them

I did, but it's BRIGHT YELLOW - rumour has it, that trumps all other colours ;-)

Was trying to be good, and then bloomin Westbrook had a 10% discount code, plus a potential 5% through TCB, means I just ordered this in Small - need to lose some of my winter blubber now.

Damn all4cycling for having a minor sale on.

Been after the FRC variant of this for 6 months, and managed to bag the last one in small. Bobshop have been out of stock for ages.

Cr@ppy distribution though, as so few places stock it.

Ordered some of the new version 2 Galibier Barrier winter gloves. They were doing £5 off for the first few orders so thought it would be rude not to for 20 quid.

Good gloves but the liner pulled and ripped in one of mine making them hard to get on and a nightmare if you stop mid ride for coffee stop, they should make a set with separate liner and outer.

Just fitted my new 4iiii power meter aside from whacking my thumb removing the pedals (note to self copper slip pedals better) it was a simple process, from my initial super short test spin with three sprints the numbers seem to match my turbo trainer.

I thought it did power, cadence and speed, nope no speed. So do people just use the garmin speed sensor or gps signal?

Around these parts gps coverage is really poor at best, much like the mobile signal

I just use the GPS signal from my Lezyne Super GPS, although I've had https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07D4JGTC2/ on a list to maybe buy for a while, the Coospo H6 HRM has been fine for the last year.

I'll just stick with my garmin wheel sensor, its a bit disappointing to use separate units but not the end of the world

Yeah, only the wheel hub based power meters have speed sensors built in.

The crank has no way of knowing what gear your in so there is no way to establish what speed you are going at.

GPS signal should be better out in the middle of nowhere, less buildings by the road blocking the signal, less interference on the radio waves from wifi etc. Overhanging trees are the main issue out in the sticks.

A Wahoo Elemnt Bolt. Not for me but a birthday gift for No 1 son.

Watching him unboxing it was a delight. He loved everything about it from the magnetic closure on the box, to the colour scheme which matches his bike exactly, to the speed / ease with which it made friends with his phone and his Strava routes. Priceless!

(My old Garmin Touring Plus with its wired USB 0.5 connectivity and temperamental software should be feeling quite nervous...)
