So is the Madone the bike to get you around the Fred in style?

24 hours later and my new speedplays are here. Good work there, wiggle! And that was the free delivery!

Now I just need a bike to put them on.

    Build faster, pesky italians!

Put them on your Bowery and practice so that you know you are happy clipping in and out and won't look silly on your blingtastic little italian number.

You wanna get down to that factory with an espresso machine, some gelato and a whip.

I don't know about in style, but hopefully it'll get me round. I might have to swap out the standard chainset for a compact though, and off course carbon jockey wheels will make all the difference

I took her to the Puncheur on Sunday and she went up Ditchling Beacon without to much trouble, not quite hardknot though is it..............

Hmmm Hardknott does look to be in a league of its own. Reckon a carbon compact would go well with those £75 carbon jockeys :D

How's the training coming along? I still haven't done any really big hills but hope to get some in before too long. I did ride most of the Bikeradar live Sportive course a few weeks ago and that was OK. It just feels like it is getting quite close now!

I seem to be running out of time fast. I've been treating the sportives as training rides, last Sunday was the first and I was more than pleased with 3:51 for 70 miles finishing with a fairly easy run up Ditchling Beacon. I think I have three more lined up but I really need to find some seriously steep hills to train on. I've heard rumours of a 25% beast in my locality, although it's only about 1km long. Time to search it out and tame it I think

Sounds like you are packing a fair bit more speed than me at the moment. Well done on that time. 18mph average in hilly terrain is good going.

I'm not sure how much of it was due to my limeted abilities. I jumped on the back of a fast group with about 25-30 miles to go, they rarely dropped below 25ish  it was bloody hard work but the best feeling ever, at times the group must have been about 20-30 strong. People just stopped and stared as we piled through village after village. Maybe I'm over-egging it a bit, but it was the best hours riding I've ever had

The Tifosi already has some on it, they're not too bad to get into, a little stiff at first, very easy to get out of.

Honestly, working with italians as much as I do, I'm used to their lack of urgency. They'll drink all the coffee, eat all the gelato, then expend the resultant energy talking about the quality of the whip and how it would be much more whippy if it were italian leather.

OK was just worried that you would head out on the pride and joy and promptly topple over at the first junction! I do like the look of those pedals and for quick clipping in to get going on hills they look a hell of a lot easier than SPD-SL's.

Sounds great. I am hoping that I can jump on the back of a fastish group along the A66 to Keswick or atleast be with a couple of people to share the load. It will be a fine balance of making up some speed and not burning too much energy before Honister.

SPD SL's were designed by satan himself. Bloody impossible to get out of, or is it just me, and my shins bear the scares of trying to clip in for a quick getaway at the lights

I swear I'll never, ever commute in them again, once was enough.

I have to say, I had a few problems getting into the speedplays quickly and easily, this goes back to my grumblings about road shoes and their lack of grip on the sole.

If you had a grippy bit on the arch of your foot, behind the cleat, it might grip the pedal when you miss your clip in and make the whole experience a lot less hairy!

Have to say the speedplays are good to walk in, if a little ducky, and the coffeeshop caps look like they'll make it even better.

Thanks for the reminder, I've lost a cap and will need 'em for Sunday.

Training hard with Powertap, drinking water and eating only bread  with the odd shot of protein drink. Does that mean that you'll lose weight and have super power for the TTs and races?

P.S. Don't say yes, it'd just make me want to close my eyes and get the credit card out, which would be bad.

    No, no, no ;)

    There, guilt assuaged.
Those who know me will say I don't need to lose weight. Quite the reverse, possibly. I'll probably add a few biscuits to the diet, maybe some cake...

Oh yes. You need a good meal all right. Until you put on some decent weight, stay indoors when it's windy. :)

Castelli Cronus Bibs have just arrived! The padding looks great. Can't wait for it to be warm enough to try them.
