OK work takes me all over the world which screws up my training so now have one of these on order

http://www.thebikeboxcompany.co.uk/ which is the same design as more expensive models but at least I can now try and force my company to pay some exces baggage.

    Been on wiggle for

Got something on it's way but I can't for the life of me think what it could be as I've received all the last few bits I've ordered :? Got to see what surprises the postie has for me in the morning.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Got a freebe from a friend some shimano M540's

only riden them around for a min but feel much better than the single sided/flat on others before. 4381140553_8563839c6d.jpg
  • Managed to get all but 400 yards to work without realising I'd forgotten to put on my helmet. I was wearing my buff around the back of my head and under my chin and a skull cap, so I never even noticed until I happened to scratch my head.

I'm not one for going without a helmet, and frankly, the Missus would kill me, so I am now the proud owner of a Giro Stylus helmet.

Bargain alert!! Halfords have these beauties in for £20 reduced from £49. Much nicer than the one I left at home... :D

Brake cables for the on-one, cheap cables first

Anyone know how difficult it is to fit new hydro disc cables?

Cables or hoses? You'll need good hose cutters, a bleed kit and probably replacement 'olives' too.

I got my replacement front guard flappy bit in the post today, so fitted it onto my Crud Roadracers and set off. ONE YARD later, I managed to put my foot through the front guard, breaking the main section where it joined the righthand strut, and cycled to work with only one strut (which still works very well, albeit with more movement and rubbing, inevitably) and feeling rather foolish.

On the plus side, Mr Crud has already responded to my request for a new part, so hopefully, if I manage not to break anything, I'll be back to a full complement of parts in a day or two.

Broke mine on the first ride changing the first you know what, they're light and easy to fit but even easier to break.

I'm really impressed with it. On and off in a jiffy, light, doesn't even look that bad. Carries my lunch and tool kit. Everything I wanted. Not waterproof mind but a bag and a cable tie is all that is needed.

Very good. And only 30 quid on interwebs.

Hmmm... Looks alright; how much weight does it carry? Is there any support for the weight other than the seat post clamp? How big is that clamp in the up/down dimension? (i.e. how much surface is in contact with the post?) I'd be a little wary of swinging lots of weight on that cantilever-ing clamp on a carbon seat post.

I'm probably only thinking of lunch, clothes, tools etc, but the ride home is sometimes heavier due to the "must buy stuff!" impulse.

    cheers

Snapped the 'flappy bit' off my front guard on Sunday (while making a *ahem* minor adjustment) which seems to have eliminated the annoying rubbing noise. Not sure how this will effect it's mud guarding functionality

The pack only carries about 5KG. Think of it as a giant seat pack. I get lunch and a t-shirt and pair of boxers/socks in there with innertube, tools etc in the side bits. You also have the elastic stuff on top but that wont hold much. It's enough that with planning and leaving clothes at work I can get away with hardly ever taking in a rucksack but it's in no way a replacement for panniers.

The way I look at it - it's an option not a complete solution. I have the rucksack if i need it, i could do panniers if it was necessary. For lunch and a few bits though - ie stuff I dont want to fall on in an off - it works great.

Hope that helps, Got mine from Discount Cycles Direct. Very good quick service.

Great, thanks, I think that might work for me if I watch what I carry, with the backpack as an option.

It's a great idea and means you don't need a bag to carry the damned thing, you can also get a belt with an integral holster.

biondino... sks race blades try them instead?

To/front flappy bit or rear/bottom flappy bit? If the latter, it makes a big difference to how wet your feet get.

I managed to break it by wobbling as I set off, turning the front wheel to compensate just as my foot on the pedal was at its furthest forward, catching the guard and as I turned the wheel back, the guard stayed stuck behind my foot and *snap*.

I have tried Race Blades, and it was there rubbishness that encouraged me to try the Roadracers which are a far better design but also a lot more fragile. Light, cheap, quality, pick any two...
