And how are you finding the stem/bar combo?0 -
Bar and stem combo suit me well i was sceptical at first with the lack of adjustment but i find the position gives me control and plenty of speed on the up hills.
well the chain are those kcnc ones they were cheap and much lighter than the stock ones.
ive also replaced alot of bolts with gold aluminium ones too.i already had these bolts from another hobbie.crank and seatpost next then its the biggy for the wheels.
all replaced parts will be used on another frame and forks at some point.0 -
I am going to get some of the nitrile grips too. Seriously thinking of getting the KCNC V levers too!0

Not light enough but thanks for the sugestion. the pedals i have on now only weigh 320 grams their an old pair of VP pedals from the mid ninties that ive tuned to save weight.so it would cost £55 to save 25 grams. ritchey ti wcs look good but xpedos are lighter and cheaper just!!!!......egg beaters look scary to me lol.0 -
I could knock a fair bit off, but don't like SPDs!
I'm right on that value/weight limit at the moment, so probably going to stick apart form the grips.0 -
OH SPD.s hehe i remember my first pair back in the nineties!!! i rode straight to my mates house telling him oh these SPD,s are ace so much smoother etc and so on.he was sceptical ."they may make you faster yes but be careful wont you".
that very evening i ended up in a hospital bed tehehe and was off work for the remainder of the week.flipped it down a banking and landed flat on my back feet still in pedals.if it wasnt for a lass walking her dog i would of been there for quite some time feet still clipped in and all.my back was doomed and i didnt have the strength to unclip them myself ........well live and learn the hard way.
i wouldnt be without them now though.0 -
thinking of going for red hubs?0

Very nice, you must have spent a small fortune!
I've only had mine for 5 minutes, so will maybe think about shedding weight once the novelty of a lighter bike has worn off. Notice you still have a straight bar, how do you cope? This will be my first major change as I get aching hands after a few miles and need to get a riser.
Agree about the seat, it is arse numbing, in fact it's worse than that, but still giving it a chance to see if I can get used to it. I think I know the answer though!Ridley Orion0 -
Quite a project! How light is it now?0
-
Hi well the straight bar isnt to bad at all to be honest ...but i may change to a carbon riser bar at some point in the future. And that bloody saddle had me in a state when i bought the bike it just had to go!!
Im not sure how light it is but i will be buying some scales some time soon just to see what it weighs..sad i know but its killing me not knowing.0 -
I've gone ahead and changed the bar on mine, fitted a new Carbon Easton Monkeylite High riser (40mm), what an amazing difference. I used to get hand-ache after a few miles, but did 14 miles yesterday and it has definitely solved the problem, better turning control too.
The seat is next, will have a shop around, but even with padded shorts it's still bone hard, so it's got to go!Ridley Orion0 -
Interesting thread
I have just bought myself a Scale 35, I wasn't really planning on buying one, but managed to get it for a bargain price - it seemed a great frame to upgrade.
I spent last night stripping it down, so I can rebuild it to a better/lighter spec. As I went along I weighed all the stock components. Amazing the rear wheel alone weighs about the same as the frame. The stock large bike weighed in at 10.6kg , when it is rebuilt it should be under 10kg.
It started like this:
It currently looks like this:
All going to plan it should be up and running in a week or so.0 -
Now all (nearly) finished:
Changes to the standard Scale 35:
Wheels : Crank Brother Cobalts
Tyre : Maxxis Crossmark UST
Shifters : XTR
Rear Mech : XTR
Brakes : Hope Mono Mini M4 with floating rotors
Cranks : Truativ Stylo
Cassette : Sram PG-990
Pedals : XT
I have put a cheap riser bar on for the time being, just so the brake levers don't hit the top tube. I haven't worked out what stem/bar combination will be best. I am sure they will be changed at some stage. The saddle is a spare spec BG one I had in the garage, the white saddle seems to suit the bike, that will be upgraded some time soon.
Now I just need to go and ride it!0 -
Nice bike, don't think I've ever seen non-blue cobalt wheels before, they look good. You've done a major bit of bike revamping!Sh....itespeed http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/1729687/
