I agree with Kiwi, it will work fine but from Scott warantee (this on the Gambler - couldn't quickly see a Scale manual)

    ADJUSTMENT
    OF SEATPOST-HEIGHT
    Important:
The seatpost has to be inserted into the
seattube at a minimum of 80mm.
Never use another seatpost diameter than
34.9mm or try to use a shim/reducer between
    seatpost and frame.
When lowering down the seatpost, please make
sure that it will not hit the shock below while
riding! This could result in serious damage on bike
parts and result in a dangerous riding condition.

  • what and where do i find the new ulitmate stuff??? need to look at there seat posts?
  • update on my scale 30. saddle has been thrrown in the bin ive borrowed aa sele italia.
    this bike now rocks!!!!

Ive also been busy with some home tuning as they call it on weight weenies site lol.

Ive stripped 140 grams from the bike without spending a penny.

first i shortened the excess of the set post.replaced the seat quick release for T6 alloy nut and hex head
then i changed cableclamp bolts on deralieurs to alloy T6 bolts.removed the indexing units off the shifters and replaced the bolts for T6 alloy bolts.changed the aheadset top bolt to T6 alloy bolt.lightened the rear jockey wheels by drilling symetrical holes round the thickest bit. and finally put on some old VP spd pedals that i had kicking about in my tool box.
so with that weight saved and the hope mini mono pro brakes i may have saved around 1/2 lb. ok i havent really noticed the weight riding the bike but i enjoyed putting abit of time in trying to personalise it a little.
so the quest continues.roll on pay day!!
Any recommendations on water proof cycling pants/trousers?

I,m finding it hard to stop looking at the tune website they have some beautiful stuff.
oh if i could stretch my budget for some of those tune hubs???
Also do stans notubes setup ride well on the road? for those journeys in to work?

    Good work.

I finally got around to shortening my seat post the other day. Saved 44g accordng to the kitchen scales. Cheapest weight saving ever.

I finally got fed up with my Selle Italia saddle creaking all the time (it has done so for the last year) and replaced it... with this...

    PICT2604.gif

It is surprisingly comfy, better than the original.

CJW you just cost me £100 for the SLR carbonio. but its comfy and looks great being black red an silver like my scale.IT was a tight fit on the scott seat post ive had to file the silly top circle piece to make it fit with out contact.so there is my next buy lined up a seat post.the wheels will have to wait!!!!.
I do wish i had my camera sorted may be i will buy a bluetooth thing for pc this week too.

    Sorry

Seems comfy, but have only had since Tuesday and ridden an hour (it actually seems to have a little more flex that the SLR XC that it replaced (which was fine for me anyway). I'll ride for an hourish at lunchtime today again. Will let you know after weekend and a couple of 3-4hour rides - that's the test.

I've done 80 miles on the seat since Tuesday and feels very comfy even though it looks like a razor blade (3.5 hours in the saddle today). Very pleased.

I got mine through ebay.com and imported for approx £65... according to google product search - £125 I found the 34.9 hard to locate for less than £125

    http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=Ritc ... &scoring=p

    Cheaper but not much!!

There are a few other 34.9 seat posts about.

Wiggle has an Easton C70 - but it's not on Easton site

Chainreaction has a USE Sumo Carbon post.

I'm sure Titec did a carbon post which was lighter than the Ritchey but about double the price. There is also Syntace... http://www.syntace.com/index.cfm?pid=3&pk=1231

  • Dilker thanks for all the help trying to locate a nice seat post for me. those syntace as nice as they are are just to heavy for what im looking for.

with CJ,s ritchey now weighing in at 179g at what length though ? i,m not quite sure???
Its going to have to be the ritchey for £125 and take the hack saw to it lol
it will be 320mm for me.

CJ glad the saddle is fairing well on the arse lol!!!
my carbonio (not quite in the league of yours) is just bless on the arse ive done just short of 40 miles and so glad that scott one is in the bin!!!

Some more parts arrived today kcnc skewers blue
kcnc chainbolt set blue.and continental supersonic tubes.

saved a few more grams there

Glad your liking the bike :D

Thar Carbonarro saddle is not much different to the one I've got (and it's the same weight)

Oh... and I cut my seatpost with a dremel as I think for carbon you need a special type of hacksaw blade for carbon - not sure though as I use my dremel for most things.

Have you seen the KCNC cassettes 160g

I am very tempted, but keep telling myself I'll do the wheels at some point so leave the rest (probably next year) and might spend silly money as you can save about 700g (DT Swiss 1250)

50:50 that this time next week I'll have gone for the cassette though - I seem to be in that sort of mood

Main thing you need to sort out is a CAMERA - WANT PICYS!

I went through the same search when i got my Ritchey.

I need to post some updated pics of my Scale... and it's specs. It's a 2006 Scale 30 with only the frame remaining from the original.

Next thing to do away with is a triple chain set. I'm looking to replace the FSA K-Force with a Middleburn RS Duo. No need for a granny ring really. I might do away with the Juicy 7's i have but weight save will be minimal... Ultimate are 40gr lighter perhaps.

  • CAMERA LOL its on my list high priority!!

ive read that kcnc cassettes dont last long? ive never owned one so this may be untrue?

DT swiss 1250 wheels very nice wheels very exspensive also.try looking at just riding along wheels.they build up dt swiis 190 with stans race 7000 cheaper yet lighter but admittedly they dont look as good as the dt swiss 1250 set with the carbon rims.
  • dilker ive just looked at your bike its looks nice!! well apart from all those christmas lights all over ot hehe.

I've seen race 7000 before and was rather worried by the - we don't warrant anything about these and only use them for racing 'cause they're so fragile - statement on the web site. I would mainly be after the better DT Swiss hubs to be honest as I love the 240's... I've just re-greased mine and they're absolutely silent again. As said, I'll leave for a while now - also I don't like the fact that these super light wheels are not UST... So might just give it all a miss (let's see what comes out next year).

I couldn't resist by the way and have just ordered the KCNC cassette and chainrings. I've also read mixed reviews but thought I'd give 'em a go

  • OH man im jealous lol kcnc chain rings!!!! hope you got the bolts too as they are really nice!
will love to hear about your cassette and how it wears!! your bikes going to float off its that light now!!! hope next summer we could meet and go for a ride out some wear???
lookung forward to some more of your quality pics once the new parts are fitted to the bike!! how long have you been running kcnc chain and has it shifted and lasted well?

Race 7000 rims are the lightest in the range and are the strongest !!! unless your a heavy weight they will take some XC hammer.I met a guy down the locks the other night on a giant xtc and he swears by them...... he looked about 12 stone in weight!! and has run a few of there models.

Going to have to buy some water proof pants for the rides to work and back. im going for some Endura eVENT Over Trouser @£107.99 unless someone knows a cheaper place or better alternative?

Also looking in to get a Roger black rowing machine to build up some extra fitness over the winter
may have to sacrifice buying some parts for a while but its winter so i guess it wont bug me that much lol.....so do you think a rower will show its worth regarding fitness levels for next summer riding???

CJ ive been talking to Tune about there hubs and how ive heard reports about the rear hubs creaking (superscharf and the prince).they said that all hubs are now sorted with the titanium pawls machined to shape to stop this happening.they are very expensive very very light and and in my opinion the best looking hubs on this panet!!
maybe oneday but now they can just be a dream for me.

Hows the xtr front mech? it looks the business!?

    cjw Posts: 1,889
Chain is very nice and shifts well, but only put about 200 miles on it... actually that's part of the reason I've decided to replace the rest of the drivetrain now. Previous chain had only worn by 0.4% when changed (so the cassette and chainrings are still in good condition) but thought I would replace the cassette and rings now before they start to wear out the new chain.

Didn't go with the bolts as the Truvativ ones are OK.

XTR mech is nice, but not really any different really to an XT one. This is my second XTR front mech as the first one broke when a tree branch jumped off the ground and took a bite out of it

Instead of a rower, how about a trainer (such as the Minoura Rim Drive)

    ERDA%20Trainer.jpg

    http://www.cyclesportsuk.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=357

As you can use this with knobbly tyres on.

On the wheels. I'm waiting to see what develops for a bit... Fulcrum have just brought out some new carbon wheels

    Where abouts are you?

  • Im in lancashire in the penine valleys lots of hills here!!!!

dont fancy a indoor bike trainer.they are bad for the bike and also to noisy.the noise will upset my neighbours i think....i ride 10 miles minimum aday.so a rower my improve my strength and stamina i think?

ive looked at fulcrum but there look does suit my eye if you get me,thing is ive got an expensive taste lol so when i get back up to pace on the bike i may feel that tune hubs with race 7000 rims are worth the extra ££££ until then i just keep dreaming lol

If you want a rowing machine I strongly recommend that you look for a second hand Concept 2 on ebay rather than buying a Roger Black or any of the other cheap rowers. Even the models from the 80's (e.g. Model B) are far better than the current line up of cheaper rowers. Obviously later models C, D or E offer improvements but to be honest most of those are in the monitor features rather than the underlying exercise movement.
  • CJ cassette sounds like it may be made of helium lol thats so light at 150 grams!! :D

tony the concept 2 is so expensive i could not spend th ££500 to £800 asking prices.
Thankyou for the input but a cheaper model will have to do

XTR front mech has just landed so i,ll be fitting that later!...........CJ pictures will be sorted for next week sometime! did you weigh the new kcnc chain rings???? i bet they are sweet!!
  • cjw
    cjw Posts: 1,889
Chainrings are exactly the same weight as Truvativ but they change smoother (140g for the 3). Just got back from brief ride. Cassette changes very nicely but sounds a little 'metallic' (whereas the SRAM was silent).

  • rings and the cassette look really nice on the bike.

the extra noise could be due to the KCNC cassette being made out of much harder material.Im sure youll get to like it soon enough!! looks great though!!
  • XTR front mech is a no go tonight their is no split link in chain so im going to buy a new chain friday kmc 9sl......... or any sugestions?? thanks.

What chain have you got. Most likely you just need a SRAM powerlink and break the chain. SRAM (gold in our case) fits all 9 speed chains (incl. Shaimano).
