I have gone and ordered me a scott scale 30..............it seems the slx brakes weigh a ton
would hope mini mono pro be the first thing to upgrade?
Also i see the seat post is an odd size any sugestions where to get a really light one to fit?

Not sure why they are putting SLX parts on a bike like this. And the same goes for many other manufacturers. Do they not know what SLX is? Seems not. What they are doing is speccing from a supposed Shimano heirarchy of parts ie 'old' LX, and putting zero thought into what they are actually doing. I find it really annoying.

I was talking to the Shimano people out here and this is what they were saying. SLX is replacing the old LX and the LX is for the tourers!

Sitting in between the Deore and the XT, it takes up the place of the old LX group, making it a mid level trail groupset. The LX becoming a new commuting and hybrid group. According to Shimano, the SLX is lighter than the LX and tougher than the Deore XT.

I think the SLX set (no rotors) is about 700g, XT 580g, XTR 520g(??) so going to XTR you'd save almost 200g. Not a great deal, but if you get the shop to change it now before you use them it would save money rather than using... then selling second hand etc.

And if you're not too happy with that set up now, chances are it will just keep bugging you into eventually changing anyway

Don't know about Mini Mono. Personally I prefer Avid, but also have ridden Shimano XT and XTR (tried out) they feel different to Avids but work well. If you search on Avid / Shimano you'll get differing opinions. Comes down to Avid users like Avids because they get used to the way they feel, Shimano users like Shimano because they get used to the way they feel.

SLX not even on the Shimano Europe site yet!

My understanding it was that it merges the Hone and LX groups, while LX itself goes trekking. SLX is for the harder riding XC/trail side of things. I would think there were better choices for a carbon XC race bike.

i totally agree it is a low spec bike but the frame and forks are a good starting point for achieveing enlightenment lol.
brakes hope mini mono pro (because hope factory is only a ride away from my house).
wheels ztr race with either american classic hubs or dt swiss 240 hubs
please feel free to offer upgrade advice thanks.
Iwas set on the scale 20 but for the extra 600 big ones it didnt seem worth it at all.
i also like the 30 colour sceme more but thats just my taste.

ive already bought and payed for the scale 30.
plus i will be upgrading to xtr overtime so xt still would have been upgraded

lol im in england uk.so it was afternoon when i posted.

my scott scale 30 is coming with hope mini mono pro disc brakes.they weigh 590g per pair i think .so thats a nice weight saving already

My scale 30 is here yippee its as smooth as silk rapid out of the blocks and holds a true line.
Hope mini mono pro,s are sweet im glad i shelled out extra on those babies.

Cant wait to hit the dirt at the weekend!!!!

will try to get some pics up but i stood on my bluetooth connector on the front of the pc so i need a new one.
im working from 2.30pm til 9.30pm today and tommorrow then ive got five days off so the mud munching miles will start then.
Ive got to change the saddle when i get next months pay so come on guys inspire me with some saddle heaven??? ive got my eye on an slr of some sort but sugestions will be looked at thanks again.

The Selle Italia SLR XP came on mine and (with padded liners / tights) is fine for up to about 3 hours / 30+ miles non-stop which I tend to do on Saturdays (and I really mean no stopping apart from opening gates if necessary).

Excellent on the SLX kit. Shows that all butts are different doesn't it on the saddle...

I take it you've got padded shorts or something - I couldn't ride it without. Maybe give it a little longer and see if your arse toughens up :shock:

Well i have padded shorts but as the ride to work is only 4 miles there and 4 miles back i didnt think that would be enough to make my arse sore.i used to ride with a flite titanium back in the 90s and could cover 100 miles over the weekend and still have no pain??

will try this scott seat until next payday but first impressions are its has to go!!!!

the local bike shop as been try to talk me out of buying stans notubes setup saying its not a very good system???? are they just trying to take my money for something else?

I haven't tried any of the ones you'#ve listed, but I imagine they will be fairly similar - or worse - regarding pain in the butt to the SLR XP as they are all (I think) similar design and size, some are even harsher like the Teknologica Flow....



Mostly carbon with a tiny tiny bit of padding I've been thinking about it but think it may be too uncomfortable. It's also £200 :shock:

I love the scales, my flatmate has the 30 and it is a sweet ride.

Must admit for some people Scott makes dreadful saddles, the one that is on my Ransom is murdering me, I thought I would give it some time to 'wear in' but the only thing wearing is my patience, time to nick the Spesh saddle from my stumpy and throw that on.

Tough thing about saddles is you dont know (well I dont) if they are any good until a few miles have been racked up.

How do you guys get around this? (sorry not trying to hijack the thread!)

what do you think? ive used a use seatpost with shims before in my s works frame and had no trouble.will the carbon frame cause any issues with shims?

I'm not too sure of what I'm about to say, so have a look around the forums to check out but....

Pretty sure post shims invalidate the Scott guarantee. However;

1. How will they know?
2. Quite a few people seem to have used them OK
3. I think I saw somewhere that Scott have a shim set, but didn't follow up because I wasn't interested (I'm happy with the Ritchey WCS), and I may have dreamed it :oops:

You should have no problems with a carbon frame, infact My ransom frame is shimmed as standard to drop the adjustable seatpost in.

As said above scott would never know if it had been shimmed and in all cases a proper sized shim will cause absolutely no more stress than the supplied seatpost.
