Forget cool or what others think, completing a 20 mile NFD commute (no foot down) is still one of my greatest achievements, level par with Ironman.

NFD?!? Pah! What you mean is FUC (Foot Up Commute).

I went on this organised ride thing once round London (not critical mass) and there was this girl on a bmx who did this track (not)standing thing at lights. Still seated, one foot on the pedal, bars pushed to one side and the other foot on the tread of the front wheel/tyre using little movements to balance (in a track standing type way).

I saw a fixie rider cycling under the Barbican eating from a takeaway tub with a fork, mental shite given the traffic around there at lunchtime he might drop some

I popped out to get some milk and had to walk past a set of TLs, at the red light was a school girl on her full suss MTB holding a trackstand for the duration of the red light, kudos to her.

Do you guys use clipless pedals or normal shoes with straps?

I was hoping to be able to use normal shoes a bit more often, and especially not my really rather expensive bike shoes.

Clipless personally, though SPD on the fixed rather than SPD-SL on the road bike.

Snap. But I don't have a speedy road bike at the moment (or a fixie in working order, if I'm honest), so SPDs on both.

    SPDs for me as well.

I hate the idea of faffing with straps when setting off. I also ride SPD on my other bikes so very used to it now but have had to turn the tension right up for fixed.

Tend to just wear the Spesh MTB shoes, sometimes chuck some trainers in a bag.

If you're in London and are a size 43, I'll sell you a pair that are only a few days old at a decent discount. Bought 43s when I should have got 42s... :(

okay my SS is officially not safe to ride in the rain, the front brake just doesnt work, which is odd because the rims are good and the pads are Koolstops, it must be the calipers

Brake levers? My SS has little stubby BMX ones which need a firm grip, though it isn't much worse in rain the previous SS lost a lot of braking in the rain, which I think was the calipers.

Cane creek SCR which have been fine for years, seeing as one is now completely snapped in half perhaps its time for some upgrades, i'm thinking disc SS rear wheel with a clever horizontal dropout disc adapter, with a normal caliper front + new swiss stop pads and a suicide lever.

Actually thinking about it anyone have one spare you might have taken off your CX bike, you dirty perverts

Try the Boardman thread. It seems like the number one mod is to take the cross tops off.

Sounds to me like you need a Cotic Escapade frameset. If it had been available when I got my Peregrine with an eccentric BB I would have picked the Escspade instead.

So my fixie is in the garage with a stuck BB at the minute. Looks like ill have to get it to the LBS to get the sod out...

Didn't think I would have to get accustomed to using gears again but i do seem to be flying along on it. Still cant wait to have the fixie fixed up and good as new (with a bigger gear  )

^^Mine's back at Evans waiting for a judgement on whether the blatant stripping of the hub is a warranty issue or not

God I cannot stand Evans! Curse whoever decided to get use the Evans only R2W scheme!!!

Time for a new bike soon. Aside from the Merlin single malt, are there any other fixed bikes that have rack/mudguard mounts?
