    Day 52

Damn this desolate God forsaken country. Again a day of fruitless toil pulling the sledges.

We had to eat Smithers in the night - it was that or start on the gel packs and since someone told us the warm salty thick liquid tasted like sperm - they have been off the menu.....

We came across the abandoned camp of the ill fated "09 Surrey North West Passage" expedition, wrecked carbon and brioche wrappers, A simple headstone of crossed Titanium frames last testament to an expensive schooling wasted.

    When will it end?

I was looking at mine this morning but I couldn't be arsed putting the cleats on last night so i'm still in my disco slippers - argh!

Not looking good out of the south-facing window, but looks like it's clearing from the north. All moving very quickly in any case. Just hope it dries out in time. Checked the weather this morning and it suggested that the showers would have cleared by 6, so left the overshoes at home (still too warm for NV jacket). Carol will pay dearly if she was wrong!

Feeling pretty smug because I remembered my overshoes and new waterproof jacket I just discovered I've left my headphones at home blah! Boo hisssss!

20 pitch black wet miles with nothing to see or listen to other than the beasts and axe murderers who surely hang around the dark single track lanes waiting for pootling cyclist - gulp!

I said I would get a wet arse, and I did!

There some kinda of incident at London Bridge too, quite funny really. Whole bridge jam packed. Got of and walked the last bit as there was no room to filter.

Now rushing around trying to get everything dry for tommoz :)

Just finished karate and its stopped raining - lucky me :D

Might even have a tailwind if I'm even luckier - I hope so because we spent the time this evening doing low stances and my knees are agony :(
  • Oh and watch for metal coverings - feckers that they are.

Nearly came a cropper on the big crossroads near Albert Hall, back wheel slid out waiting to turn right out of the park :o:  Other than that, retained my vertical poise.

Bit of action on N Carriage Drive - thought I was totally alone, but guy in casuals silently slid past at 20+ as I daydreamed about SCR ... :? Legs woke up fast, and made sure to be distracted by something to my right as I spun past. Saw a nice trackstand at TLs on High St Ken - sans camber.

    I don't like dark + rain much.

What a truly lovely evening, clear sky tons of stars the moon shinning brightly, no rain or wind, no ipod to interrupt the sounds of the night.

Psssssst! - doh first puncture on the hardshells in over 4000 miles, my fault though I'd let the pressure run down on the rear and a half cm shard of flint found its way in.

Called the support team but managed to whip off the wheel change tubes and co2 inflate back on away, much to the amusement/amazement of the staff at the local British legion.

Great ride home. Didn't hit the Embankment till about 7:15 so missed all the rain :) Was nice going through Richmond Park with clear skies. No SCR as I was too chilled out from yoga and concentrating on my breathing/pedal technique.

That was a tad moist. It had thankfully stopped raining, but no mudguards + no overshoes = wet aris and plates.

Still, managed to dispatch a bloke on a flat-barred roadie who snapped at my heels away from the lights but just didn't have the power.

horrible ride home. no rain but a damp posterior, and the traffic on the highway was horrendous, backed up the whole way which meant the usual run at 35kph+ was a 4km long filtering exercise

bad news was compounded when decathlon @ surrey quays said they wouldn't replace my broken spoke and true my ksyrium sl's for me, but that i should send them directly to mavic to fix and not risk Evans or any LBS workshop with them.

i proffered that the suggested course of action was futile as France was on strike at the moment, much to his bemusement, all he gave was a gallic shrug

    c'est la vie

I enjoyed last night's ride home. Left White City at 7 and the last few days of being over dressed paid off as I was warm and dry. Didn't even find it wet enough to need overshoes.

Followed a chap though the park who had a WW2 searchlight strapped to his head so we could still make a decent pace. I pity anyone who was going the other way though.
