Take a look on Google Maps at Lotts Road, it's a faster way of getting to WB and saves the narrow strip up NKR where you can get stuck behind slower riders, plus the drag back down WBR
I have thought about that way but TBH it was only really the chain slippage that ruined it last night. If I'd had the Immediate Applications of Immense Power I'm used to it would have been a breeze and once I got going I carved a sweet line through the other nodders and the traffic which whilst being a bit ar$eholey was immensely fun :-)0 -
Had a longing look at the Morpeth on the way past. I was thinking about dropping in but I'd been for a couple last night and with a new baby felt I should get home. Picked myself up a drafting fairy between VB and CB. Powered past him and his boardman just after the bridge. Eased off as the lights at the petrol station were red. They changed early dammit. There was no need to slow but that let him get on my tail. I was on the mountain bike (wide tyres but no suss) and couldn't shake him. He went in front at CB lights and started drafting a roadie. I passed both at a decent pace but he must have thought I was the better option and got back on my tail. Hit traffic after CB and he did a bit of scary filtering down the left as I went down the centre line. He got on my tail again and went past me by going the wrong side of a traffic island as I waited for a gap to open.

rjsterry wrote:... or if I can be bothered I might stretch it to WB. Definitely a slow one then. Famous last words, I'll probably end up running myself ragged and crawling home on the granny cog.
As predicted a steady start turned into a full on chase from VB to CB. He started off from the lights ahead of me, but we were both taking it steady until we got past the nodders and heavy traffic. Once clear he opened up the throttle and I set off after him. We seemed to be fairly evenly matched, but I might have been gaining very slightly when we hit a RL at the lights before the railway bridge. I stopped, he didn't, but I was pretty much at my limit so maybe no bad thing.
On a whim, I carried on to WB, which was fun to start with, but then got stuck in the traffic trying to get onto Battersea Bridge. Fairly steady ride from there over WB and up Trinity Road. Interestingly, the overall journey time was only about 5 minutes longer despite the extra 3 miles.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

I think cj has a yellow "chariot" that is the machine of humiliation... Of course with two adults on the back actively scalping people as it goes by
Heh heh. It's a blue Trikidoo.
I was home early on Friday, so no SCR action. It was flippin' warm.FCN 2-4.

This morning I saw a guy on a single speed holding on to the wheel arch of a people carrier and getting pullled along on Waterloo bridge. His legs were going like crazy. :shock:0

Been a while since I last checked-in - any rules changes I should know about for the FCN calculator?
Also, thought some might be interested in an SCR thread from the Colonies...

Back on the single speed today. It was hard work with all of the geared bikes but managed to avoid loosing my scalp. I overtook a guy on a very nice looking white Dolan SS but as we were the same FCN (unless there's a carbon adjuster for him or a 45 year old bike adjuster for me) it was just a nice bit of riding, thoughwhen he did a slightly dubious bit of filtering on the left of a lorry I held back. Chased after him but he went up the Blackfriars sliproad while I went down it just as I got level.
I think I might be more of a target on the way home
Top speed was 28.8mph (downhill) which was pretty spinny!FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -
I think our game has gone public. Heard the word scalps several times during the coverage of the elite races on yesterday's Marathon.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Lively ride home tonight. Had two or three roadies in tow along Embankment.FCN 2-4.

I noticed that too. I hope we get our royalties.
There did seem to be a lot of roadies out tonight; unfortunately, most of them seemed to be RLJers. Saw off a couple of the non-RLJing roadies on the Embankment, but I seem to remember some baggy shorts, so unless my face mask cancels that out, no scalp.
Oh and some little runt in a silver Fiesta felt the need to demonstrate how much he was compensating by deliberately passing a bit close in St Helier and revving his engine as he did so.
[clutch handbag to chin] Ooooooooh. [/clutch handbag to chin]. Wondered if I should chase him over the speed bumps on Green Wrythe Lane, but he turned off - probably for the best.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Needed a bag for scalps last night on the way home... lots and lots of hybrids, couple of pannier laden roadies, but the highlight was a Giant Bowery 72, this year's model, which is ironic as I will be taking delivery of one in the next couple of weeks
Was later in than normal this morning so had to run the gauntlet of Student Wacky Races on the mean streets of Cambridge  Honestly, some of the cycling is frankly suicidal.Road bike FCN 6

I finally overtook a commuter today
Shame he was a flat bar road type in office clothes and way below me on the foodchain.
However, his cycling style did clearly demonstrate the difference between experience and occasional cycling:
Poorly sighted junction on the left has cars diving out and ALWAYS pulling forward of the Stop line.
Me: knows this and always takes primary at this point to stop cars passing and ensuring cars can see me and not pull out.
Him: gutter crawls and has to make a violent swerve as car predictably pulls too far forward
Oh, and there was a definite swish as I went past :PChunky Cyclists need your love too! :-)

We had a race up Park Street after two pints tonight and can braggingly say I came second on a SS bike, beaten only by a geared CX bike, and beat a MTB and hybridI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

The MTB had knobbly tyres and a lardarse for a rider and and the hybrid was ridden by a girl with a broken elbow. Not sure what the FCN of a CX bike is but methinks thou braggest too much!Rules are for fools.0 -
Still, getting up Park St on a SS is no mean feat!
The Energy Pixies have been to visit me Had 1 roadie come past me this morning, so I MTFU and grabbed his wheel, then 2 more came past both of us, so I ditched roadie 1 and grabbed the back wheel of the other 2. It wasn't easy but I picked off one of them on the open road, and got past the other by filtering (not SCR I know) and he didn't come back past me. Got dropped properly by another roadie after P'Square and had nothing in the tank to chase. Arrived at work and about a minute later the very first roadie shows up, a guy I worked with about 5 years ago!
Going home was pretty tough but I felt better by the time I got on the bike. No real scalps but I managed to hold my own too. Hopefully I'll feel a bit more up for it tomorrowFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

I need a 16.5 tooth sprocket. Who sells those?
I just can't seem to stay on top of the 16 at the moment. Damned hard work. But in the 17 it's just too easy.
I'm blaming a virus.
In fact, I think N = P+1, where N = the number of SCR-ers, and P = the number of available individual Power packs available to SCR-ers. :x0 -

Lovely ride home last night.. I do envy you country commuters. Went over biggin hill going south for the first time damn that's a steep descent freewheeling at 44 feathering the brakes is pretty invigorating

At the northern foot of the Col De Putney Bridge this morning as I was trackstanding for the lights looking magnificent when a monster on a fixed gear came alongside - he looked big and fit next to me...
It was on.
Off we went leaving a smokescreen of awesome behind us, billowing like a great cloud of broken dreams and hearts in our wake. He led off - just south of trying obviously - baiting the trap to see if I'd bite.
Of course I bit
By Parsons Green I made a move - through I went - just north of trying but looking non plussed I think...
Lights and dicing saw us see sawing until we reached the embankment.....
He was off and upped his game - laying down the soundtrack to the Trainspotting as he went - you know the thumpy ones - 1/2 mile before Chelsea Hospital I decided to do my turn. Quick life saver out I go. Bit windy outside the shadow of his mahoosive quads...
Ba Da Boom.
I'm leading off and giving it rooty toot....
Now then - you start to work out that you are working outside your envelope when funny muscles start to hurt. The ones wrapping across the front of my calves were burning and my spit was turning to acid.
The climb up to the lights after Chelsea were green and we shot them rapiddoooo.
All lights green through to Vauxhall...
By this time I'm hanging out big time and a host of vikings are shouting at me inside my head.
He is behind me but as yet is declining to put me out of my misery and have a turn at the front. Big Boys rules I suppose if you want to lead off you got to cut the wind...
The Vauxhall lights turn green just as I round the corner - experience tells me you can't rush the lights if they are green when they come into sight so I wind straight down to get my war face on for when I stop at the lights - panting like a newly landed salmon is not victory.
We both stop.
He comes Alongside
"Good Going" he says...
"I was waiting for you to take a turn.." Say I sucking air in through my hair folicles.
"I was trying to keep up" - he's a liar - but generous with it
Green Lights - he's off like a Ram Jet powered Panzer pulling me along in his wake like a toy duck behind the QE2.... I lose him in traffic at Parliament Sq - shame he was going my way.
So then Big Aussie SS dude with a baby blue tatty top - you are proper quick and a gentleman. Chapeau.Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.
