  • Wonderful morning .....

Except for one of the most ridiculous things I've seen for I don't know how long.

I was waiting at the T junction to turn right up Sandy Lane and a woman in a blue Range Rover was approaching the junction from my left pretty slowly signalling right : so I thought she was going to let me out into the traffic.

She didn't and that was ok BUT what was not ok was that she had 3 young children in the car (the kids were dressed in private school type uniform) : in her right hand she had a mug of what was either tea or coffee, and in her left an open mobile phone and she was steering with her wrist which explained why she was going so slow.

Honest to God it defies belief how utterly negligent this woman was with her children's lives. I didn't say or do anything as I was stood there with my mouth open in disbelief.

It was still a lovely ride in and all is well with the world and God is in his heaven :):):)

Lovely ride in this morning, managed to time most of the lights on embankment well and took a gaggle of scalps with the traffic amongst others - loads of roadies were out and about.

Morpeth is looking good later. News from work here may not be so ace so beers o'clock it is.

Very much Friday Legs today, but still managed to briefly scalp one of those little electric cars (the ones that are even smaller than a Smart) on Kennington Road. Unfortunately, all the other worthy opponents appeared just as we were getting to heavy traffic and my rubbish filtering skills meant I didn't get a chance to take them on.

Only one potential scalp this morning (the rest were 'unclassified'), but he was on a carbon trial and run that must have been half the weight of my trusty steed. That and the figure hugging colour-coded lycra (and potentially the higher fitness levels) meant I never managed to pass him. Quite frankly, it would have been a monumental scalp and I'd have had to absolutely bury myself to get close to making it stick.

To my eternal credit, he never managed to get more than 25 yards in front of me, so that must mean I get some kind of barnacle bonus. The fact we caught every red light on the way had nothing to do with it. Honestly.

  • Serious SCR opponents this morning:

    1. Blue Trek guy in white sleeveless vest top+black baggies that came filtering past me at Tooting Bec tube. He was a demon filterer and had good consistent speed meant I had to keep my wits about me to stay on his tail.

Got to Clapham South and this guy was waiting:

    2. Middle-aged chap with Hi Viz top, panniers on a GB cycles branded frame.

Basically, had to stay in the big ring to keep in the chase as these two were really pushing it all the way along to Stockwell.

Middle-aged chap kept with me along Lambeth Bridge Road and I had to push it up to 30 to pass him. He came past me again as we cornered under Vauxhall station. Honours even.

    Ah crepe. :x

Happened to me July of last year, worst thing has actually been losing the regular, almost automatic inclusion of cycling in my day.

Mind you, a few months of paid holiday doesn't hurt... ACAS is an excellent resource for any queries on what they can/can't should/shouldn't do, and it's free!

Tried SCR'ing on the Boardman with a Vespa this morning, thinking "nuts this is hard, must be Friday legs..."- absolutely powering away from me as soon as there was any gap in the traffic etc.. .. Caught up with him at a red light to find out it was a 125cc not a 50cc  Don't feel so bad now!

Chill out, dude. She was probably the nanny. Not her kids, see? Innit?

Anyway, you did say she was going very slowly. That's safety personified

Didn't close the gap enough as he carried on along NKR and I turned off for WB.

Take a look on Google Maps at Lotts Road, it's a faster way of getting to WB and saves the narrow strip up NKR where you can get stuck behind slower riders, plus the drag back down WBR

I've just thought of the perfect revenge: get in one of those pedal rickshaws hand the driver a fifty and tell him there's more where that came from if he puts the hammer down. Make your way tothe Embankment and lie in wait for G66. Obviously never going to happen, but if it did, that would be the scalp to end all scalps.

I think we'd need some sort of carbon fibre, aero-rickshaw, or possibly Chris Hoy as the driver. Perhaps a friend with a tandem would be a better bet.

Last night I'm riding toward bromley hill lamenting the last of any real competitive action when whoosh I get done like a kipper and he's off up the hill like a freaking whippet... 'oh balls' I grit my teeth and give a half hearted chase up the hill.... I'm losing ground. once I get to the top I put more effort in as I know there are quite a few traffic lights etc I see him in the distance and I start to crank it. we get to a lovely dual carriage way type road which is fast I'm now steady just over 30 and gaining and yes I've got it back..phew. He's right on my tail for the next mile or so, until some dozy old dear beeped me and the other cyclist telling us I should be on the segregated cycle path, I chased her down and just stared at her maintaing speed with traffic through anger. Dropped the other guy like a stone

What's the ruling here? honours even or do I edge it?

If anyone wants some easy prey I’ll be heading down the NKR, Putney Bridge and through RP tonight. My legs feel completely shot this week and I’ve got a horrible feeling that I’m going to have my scalp ripped apart this evening.

Still its a glorious day and I’ll at least attempt to hold my own. :D

+1 although I'll be turning off at CB or if I cna be bothered I might stretch it to WB. Definitely a slow one then. Famous last words, I'll probably end up running myself ragged and crawling home on the granny cog.

Friday in Bristol must be bad driving for Fords. It started off with a woman in a Ka just about complete an overtake on me by pulling back left at the last moment and coming too close for comfort, to finish the ride in after I'd snapped the front Racerguard and taken it off the bike a bloke in a Puma, obviously his GFs, wanted to turn left across my path. I saw him from 50 yds move to the middle of the road then turn a little, then a little more then too much right across my path. We had words and his worth of apology, mine were of the orange lights on the side of the car and what they are for.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
