My legs were feeling very tired after last nights exploits (Averaged 20.93 over 20.3 miles) the headwind and persistent roadies one of whom was practically humping my rear wheel made for a tough journey this morning
knackered. Only riding 3 days this week before a long weekend drinking listening to all kinds of nasty music so going as hard as I can for 3 days.Purveyor of sonic doom

Last night I caught a just-red at the lights which now sit where the Portobello roundabout used to be. This is a shame as they take ages to cycle, letting every direction take its turn, slowly and deliberately.
The first direction to get their turn was the road coming from the city, and the first to go over towards the direction I was travelling was a speedy-looking racing snake wearing a national team top (I assume it was a replica). He was going some, but not unassailable, if only these lights would hurry up. Next up were the traffic coming from Portobello, there's loads of them, takes ages. Next the traffic coming towards me, again, loads of them. He must have several minutes on me, but I'm unleashed by the next light change and I'm off in pursuit.
I fly through Portobello, no sign. Through Joppa, still no sign, I push on faster and faster, sensing blood ahead. I arrive into Musselburgh, it's been three miles now and I haven't seen anything from him. There he is, up ahead weaving through traffic. Excellent, now all I have to do is close this final gap and hope I have enough left to kill him good and proper. I'm really going now, flying through Musselburgh, overtaking cars, closer and closer to my target...
Suddenly, there he is waiting to turn right, out of my route, didn't even get a chance to scalp him after all that work! Some nights the SCR gods are angry with me.0 -

Am sitting here feeling very tired at the moment.
First half of my commute was a tailwind and flew along. Then turned into the wind for the remaining half of the commute and felt I had a chance at a PB as well as recording a 19mph rolling average speed. Really pushed it for the last 3 miles.
Finished with a rolling average of 18.9mph and missed the 19mph average by 19 seconds. Did set a PB of 56.12.
Get the feeling it is going to be a hard commute home :roll:0 -

Bwahahahahaaaaaa I have been cycling somewhat irresponsibly.
Went on an extended ride to the gym, not extended by much, only 10 miles, and saw 3 lycra-ed roadies! OMG prey!
So I chased them down, and bombed past them, the little cateye said 34mph! Insanity! Mind you, it is pretty windy here today. Didn't see them again.
Oh, and I should add... I was on the tifosi, in gym kit, which is a pair of cut-off tracky bums and a baggy polo shirt.
And the tifosi has a pair of these on it:

I think I'm gonna like this thread. I do a fairly breezy just under four mile commute from New Cross Gate to just near the Tate Modern and am bang up for some of this 'unspoken game' as there appears to be plenty of fodder down the Old Kent Road.
FCN is tricky, though. Pitched somewhere between 'fast hybrid' and 'MTB on skinnies', it being a hulking great Spesh Crossroads with a gert big hub gear on the back. FCN 7 or 8?0 -
Sod the classifieds section, this offer is purely for the SCR's.
Anybody want my road rash? Free to collector.
As you can imagine I came off tonight at about 15mph and grabbed some road rash which I'm willing to share, luckily the only damage to the bike is a broken pump clip and damage to me is the road rash on my left shin and elbow. A car did stop to make sure I was OK but a quick thumbs up was all she needed before I jumped back on and into the traffic ahead of her. Got home cleaned it up with warm water and cracked open a bottle of Stella.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
Ah. Done a bit of calculating using the first post on the thread

scalped a bus tonight on LB....quite satisfying...shame I didn't have the knobblies on (only took em off last night) cos that would've made it even sweeter (yep, I'm on a MTB)0

To the guy who crashed into the back of me on Cheyne walk: hope you are ok. I didn't expect the chap in front to emergency stop either.
Anyway, the last couple of days have been 'Awesome'. Been commuting on the Pearson and it's been spinny heaven, really enjoyable. Traffic was heavy on Victoria embankment and along the NKR (Chelsea game on) tonight but was able to spin like a dervish at around 30 for the length of CB. Magic
Oh, thanks to the LD SS rider who, last night, asked if I was alright after I was nearly left-hooked on the NKR chicane
Lit, nice work!0 -

Claimed the scalps of three cars tonight in Richmond Park!
It was on that lovely long stretch from Pembroke Lodge. I was doing a nice steady 25, gently catching up with 2 cars ahead, when a third decided to pull round me and plonk itself right in front.
Can't have that. So, pulled the lever on the Awesome Boost, lit the afterburners, and had him. And, with the cateye nudging the far side of 40, had the other two in quick succession as well. Didn't see them again.
Well yeah, it was downhill, and there might just have been a light tailwind... but the sound of three tin scalps rattling in my bag as their newly convertible donors vanished in my dust, still carries a certain satisfaction.White Condor Italia 2011

Took the my new bike out this morning for the frist time with the intention of setting a new course record (not really likely given that my legs are still sore from chasing a roadie though Richmond Park lst night) but missed it by 2 minutes (I blame the lights on Wood Lane and the roadworks on Fulham Palace Road).
Anyway, went anticlockwise round the park for the first time in ages and flew past everyone all the way to Putney Bridge (although I was drafted all the way along Queens Ride and LRR by a fixie.

2 genuine, legit scalps in one morning!
First - courier on a singlespeed, maybe even a fixie, coming through Camden. Passed him just before swinging left into Hawley Road and then managed to make it stick down the Camden Street dragstrip...
Second - the last hill, a sprint up Copehagen Street, man on a Wilier. My denim, panniers, mudguards and face fuzz make him a legitimate target and although he gets off faster I manage to go past as we hit the steep bit, and have daylight between us by the time we get to the lights. However I'm not sure how well I concealed my loud sucking for air and open relief as the lights went red allowing me to collapse over the handlebars. Must practice breathing through skin."We're not holding up traffic. We are traffic."0 -

I like it westbound. There's not so many side roads because of the dirty great river in the way. You can get a nice clear run except its often spoiled by all the bleedin cars :evil:0
