What was a slow windy ride finished perfectly with a genuine SCALP, had to chase the bugger down for almost four miles, nice work sir if you're on here it was cold and windy today, that Pewsey to Burbage road can really funnel the wind, oh and the shorts with overshoes is not a good lookRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

White actually, but it is so grubby and scuffed that it could be mistaken for various colours. Nothing as flashy as a Time I'm afraid; it's the Giant on page 30 of Commuting Bike Pics. The rest of the description fits though. I'm not normally so fond of riding on the drops, but in that headwind it seemed a bit more comfortable. Congratulations, you are my first confirmed BR sighting
Clearly on the basis of that run I still have some work to do as there is no way I could have followed to Putney and beyond, but I enjoyed it all the same. BTW two days of floor laying hurts more than SCR1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Will look out for you again. (Looks like I have some slab removal in the front garden to attend to today, so I'm agreeing with you already about the last bit.)FCN 2-4.

Likewise. I don't always go via the Embankment, but am making a determined effort to leave work on time (keep getting home to find little one already in bed) so should be dong it more often now. Have recovered from laying the floor, but have a new back gate to make today - oh the joy of 'in need of some modernisation'.
EDIT: Actually, on reflection, Could be wrong, but I don't recall seeing any mudguards as you went past :P .

I see mine in the morning instead - I can never guarantee seeing them in the evening, and, even then, that would be during "meltdown hour".

What a beautiful morning!
Very little traffic, green lights all the way, a chap on a very nice red focus to chase up the Old Kent Road and the sun is shining. Beat last summer's PB by a couple of minutes too . . the winter miles are starting to pay off . . . .0 -

+1 - If only every day was like this Nice bit of fun up Kennington Road as well, scalping about 4 or 5 people in one move. Hadn't got round to replacing my front gear cable over the weekend, so was stuck with the 42T ring today. A bit spinny, but it felt much easier and the door-to-door time was pretty much the same if not slightly faster. Might try it like that for a while to see if it changes anything.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Multiple scalps this morning, although only 3 count I suppose. Not bad at considering I have a nasty cold that is robbing me of sleep. Still massively f*cked off that the rain put pay to Sunday's planned ride in Kent. Lugged the bike all the way to my folks house for Easter and only managed 15 miles. Better than nothing I guess.

+2 - just lovely...really lifted my mood after last weeks "thief-fest" and cycling across the top of Greenwich, over to Westminster bridge, past Buckingham Palace and thru' Hyde Park really reminded me of why I love cycling around this beautiful city!!
Roll on summer......0 -
Agreed, a lovely morning.
Only SCR I have is against myself. Today was the first time on my new road bike so was racing my best time on a hyrbid.
Despite the headwind all and 40 miles in my legs from yesterday I beat my best ever time by nearly 2 minutes.
Only 1:25 off doing my 17.7 mile commute in a hour and I am confident I will beat this on a less windy day.0 -
Joining Mrs OSK on the commute to central London village for the next couple of days, interested to see her scalping approach, I keep hearing the stories when she gets home from work.
On another subject, how long before this thread hits the 1000 pages mark? Would be interesting to see the 'rate of pages' on the thread from when it first started, would be a much better indication of uptake of cycling for commuting than some silly government survey :-)0 -
Grrrr. Went to get out of bed today, only to find that the stoopid L5 / S1 vertebrae have decided to fuse together again and trap a nerve... Gutted as it's a lovely day and was going to do a nice 20 mile loop into work after the excess of the BH!! Oh well... Osteopaths this afternoon then...Road bike FCN 6

yeah great commute this a.m.
Started badly, alarm went off at 6:18am and as I had been entertaining family as well as decorating over the long weekend I couldnt face getting up so reset alarm to 7a.m.
That normally means the commute will be hellish bad due to increased traffic but once i finally hit the road the traffic was really clear most places and I flew in.
Not so many riders about but did see Don's (DDD) group of cyclists in hi-viz (woo- crossover thread stylee) as I approached a red traffic light plus was capturing my commute on my GoPro HD cam this morning so will see if i got any decent bits to edit together later this week.
Legs felt good after a few days off the commute and looking forward to the ride home.FCN = 40 -
Finally back on the bike after 4 weeks off ill...
What a lovely day to do it on as well Won't see any of you on the way home unless you're on the racetrack at 1am... Late working - boo.Le Cannon [98 Cannondale M400] [FCN: 8]

Pull up to a just-turning red light in Musselburgh this morning, and what do I spy turning from the side road at the front of the traffic queue? A racing-snake on what looks like a Ti steed. Well, he has a whole light cycle on me, so I reckon that's a good 30s start. Makes the chase all the more worthwhile.
Well, it would have, if I hadn't almost caught him at the next (red) light. I hung back from him, he was chatting to a MTB rider on the ASL. The lights went green and he sets off at a MTB-rider left-for-dead kind of pace (we all do it, right?). I set off after him once he reaches his top speed. Within seconds I'm alongside, "Morning", I goad heartlessly, then I'm off at a proper pace. See you later!
Or rather not.0 -
Lovely ride in this morning too : wind in my face but it didn't spoil it at all.
Thought my legs would be more sore after the weekend but they felt fine. Probably helped that I went out for a quiet spin for 30 miles on Monday evening.
Loads of runners out on Sunday : I guess it was the last Sunday when they could get their last longest runs in before the London Marathon but I didn't see a soul on a bike today.
Did see a complete knobhead in a blue Clio try to overtake me on a sharp lefthander when I was doing 38 mph down Bowden Hill. I managed to refrain from my usual response of hurling a tirade of abuse and just wagged the finger at her.
I felt supremely smug and elevated to the moral highground as she waved an acknowledging hand to say sorry.

Yesterday was just what I needed. Bit of a rubbish ride in for the morning leg, especially after the idiot Parcelforce driver who was stopped by the entrance to the underground car park who seemed intent on starting a fight at 8:40 in the morning......
Return leg was a lot more enjoyable as I took the extended route home and *almost* claimed a scalp - I would have had him if we hadn't parted ways tho! As I lined up at the first major set of traffic lights I spotted this guy on a roadie ride up through the traffic and proceed to RLJ, disappearing around a bus. I was then joined by a chap on a lovely baby blue SS/FG but his lane choice indicated he wasn't going my way.....
I tried to keep an eye on the RLJing roadie and spotted him head towards the station as my lights went green :-) It's a short and gentle uphill drag towards the station and I know had my carrot in sight. The gap was closing quickly but I got caught by the ped crossing lights at the station  A quick sprint away from that and we rounded the office block just outside the station to see him head down a different route :-( Maybe next time I'll go that way and do him properly :-)
I quite enjoy this extended route as it takes me down a lovely re-surfaced road that is rather easy to attain high speeds on (for a levelish road) After a brief stop to let a ped cross at the zebra at the top I gave it some beans and stuck it in the big ring before getting down on the drops and just coasting.......was keeping up with the car ahead quite easily and pleasently surprised to see a 32.1mph max speed :-D
Was in the car today but managed to witness a couple of bouts of The Game as I was coming towards Colliers Wood and through Merton - makes for a good spectator sport :-)0 -

Wouldn't have thought so. Just don't go under any really low bridges . I broke a badminton racquet on a low canal bridge a few years back.

Right, which one of you was the quick roadie, black and white bike, white bar tape, hi viz jacket, blue (?) helment and old blue rucksack who was out and about on the Embankment 8:30-9am this morning before taking Queen Victoria Street to Bank?0
