@Asprilla - you carrying two panniers and running yellow Contis? If so, I think I saw you this morning just before Queen's Ride and through Putney on the LRR.

Yup, that's me, were you in the Wheelers kit?

I was running late this morning, I'm usually nearly at the office by that time.

See, as athletes, we need to ensure that we're on top of our game for (a) when we arrive at the start line of sportives, or (ii) for the training we do for them on weekends, or (iii) when Daddy-duty begins on Friday night, so that you minimise the number of rings run round you.

I think you have this the wrong way round. Surely the sportives, training and ring-running is just training for the main event that is SCR...?

Heh heh. Usually, but not the way my legs are feeling at the moment...

Thought I spotted Amnezia tonight - blue/silver Giant on Embankment, but he turned off before WBR. Otherwise, had the dossard on the Spesh I saw last week on my tail again.

Was going to say it's not me on your tail, I think the time I am going to be commuting in I will miss most people on here as start work at ten mostly but will arrive there for about 9:30 on shaftesbury ave

Longleat CentreParcs is now safe for those on bikes and that's just because my mother isn't there anymore, really need to teach her how to ride properly ;-)

Great weekend away and did get out for a little ride around on Sunday morning although it did get a little repetitive as I tried to eek out some mileage (stopped after 10 miles as I was on a tight time budget!)

No proper scalping took place as I only spotted a few other roadies about (and was getting a few odd looks when I ventured out on the Sunday in the tartiest get-up in the park, lycra+arm and knee warmers on a road bike meant I stood out a bit amongst those who don't exercise on the hire bikes.....) Think I might be able to claim a few when I was out with the kids tho, got some impressive speeds up with the hired trailer bike chasing my brother :-)

Couple of special mentions and advice. Never underestimate how long you'll spend at the pool. First night there we ended up leaving after it had gone dark with only the small single LED lights on my helmet and my bro's EL-135 to light the way! I was still trying to remember routes and it took us about 25 minutes to get back to "home" with a little protesting at the dark and cold from 2 of the kids....on the plus side tho the 2 eldest BJUK's made a couple of successful ascents (and even more fun descents!) of the Cascade Walkway, a switchback section of boardwalks that climbs about 100-150 foot over 1/4 mile (all measurements are estimated!) - they both learnt a few things about gears :-)

Back on the commute proper on Thursday so I'll be tearing up the A24 in the morning and might try 9-Elms for the return leg :-D

No sign of anyone else last night, probably in sheltering from the rain but a pleasant little run, especially as I got to shelter behind a fairground truck for 2/3 off the way.

The truck was going at a pleasant 26 - 30 so was easy to keep up with and kept me dry all the way. Chapaeu to the driver as well, when he went to turn left he hung out the window to check that there was no one in his path to get squished.

I don't suppose the guy on the Giant, with a hump-like cover on his rucsac coming down from Whetstone to Liverpool Road at about 6:10 this morning is here is he?

A lovely run in with him, lost you when you went by me Finchleyish, just about managed to get back to you around Seven Sisters Road and then off you went at Liverpool Road. No scalp, but you were an excellent target for a good long way in :-)

I had a run in with a very fast MTB this morning, he had a liberal attitude to lights and pavement hopping but boy he was quick. stuck with me the whole way before we parted a blackfriars.

Did anyone else witness the incredibly aggressive driving from a silver golf and a blue van on parliament square this morning? I didn't manage to get the plates, stupid guy almost took out two cyclists.

@Amnezia - bit early for me; good job it wasn't worse...

@Cambs - nice to meet your aquaintance :) . I was also going to say that I also thought it was a bit late for you. Did you see that abomination on the Giant? Serial drafting fairy, RLJer and zebra-hopper. He does actually race you - his tongue practically hangs out of the side of his mouth.

That's the dirtiest i've got on a bike. Just had to sponge and hair-dry my shirt where muddy water had seeped through the bag. No chance of anything drying out for tonight.

@CJCP - Good to see you CJ. He was off my radar TBH. The swift-moving blonde was distracting my attention a little too much. Also, trying not to get dragged into any dog fights on the embankment this week - miles are the goal at the mo.

 I didn't get a look at her face, but legs looked good.

Do you run or did you race in the past?

@CJCP Nah, nothing formal - just long rides with mates. Wish i'd not wasted so many years in London thinking the roads would be too bad to ride on.

Proper Mudguards and panniers rule . . . dry as a bone when I got in the office . . .:D

Geezer on a fg Bianchi Pista was proper quick at Elephant this morning just before eight; by the time he'd stopped pulling away from me I was doing 29 . . . . he then prevented me catching up with him by jumping the next four red lights. Git .

Had a nice run in this morning inspite of the rain, although I got dusted a couple of times by a guy in team lycra shorts riding a very clean/new blue Ribble. The first time he was in a higher gear so I got past away from the lights from VB but he got me in the Millbank Wind Tunnel. The next time was after P'Square, where better filtering by me saw me in front through to Embankment tube when he came past again. Either he let of or I sped up as I held the cap to about 10-15m the rest of the way, catching up in the Blackfriars tunnel as he'd slowed down and was drafting another roadie. I turned left at the bottom of Southwark bridge, parting company. Chapeau, as it was good to have someone to chase!

Scalped again by the mysterious grey-haired man on the hybrid this morning! Is this anyone here? You were in shorts on your hybrid, your bag on the rear left pannier was covered by one of those Respro things. You passed me on York Place (along the Stray) then we stopped together at the lights. I span like a mofo to keep pace until I had to turn right on to Oatlands Drive (this is all in Harrogate).

I am going to have to get a 16t rear ring to stand a chance.

@ Wrath Rob - That was me. Its not new, but I did spend an hour at the weekend cleaning it.

Usual route is from Parsons Green to Canary Wharf - keep an eye out for me. I take in the major stomping grounds and always up for a duel.

Been riding the SS for the last couple of days. I'd forgotten how much fun it is to ride on the commute: accelerates quickly, very 'pointy' geometry etc. My FCN also cranks up a couple of notches so I worry roadies :)

Most of the way in today was a pootle, though. Woke up grumpy, probably due to a non-urgent system email waking me up at 3:20 but also due to so much of my cycling kit breaking at the moment. Amongst other things, last night my trackpump died and my Knog Bullfrog also made its way to the great french restaurant in the sky... a good bit of SCR along Chelsea embankment and a 34+mph blast through Blackfriars tunnel boosted the serotonin levels nicely :)

Always fun - although irritating when they outgear you as happened to me this morning, went far too spinny for my liking.

34 on the SS  sheesh that must've been uber spinny.

FixedGears app on my phone says a cadence of mid-140s. So, yeah, spinny spinny. I had a truck behind me at the lights to the tunnel so that added a little urgency to proceedings ;)

Some of the hills are killers at Longleat, even though I've been a regular visitor there I still wouldn't fancy trying to find my way back to the wooden shed in the dark.

Back to Brizzle and it was bloooowwwyyyy. Bad as I was riding into it on most of the way home but turned right and had it behind me and flew down the road at close to 30mph but it caught me out when I turned left and went very wide when the wind caught me.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Tough one home today and few road bikes out. Tracked and exchanged scalps with a blue fausto coppi from putney bridge to Queens ride - nice pace tbut what a lovely piece of kit that was - matching bling & allsorts! Gotta be proud of that ride if you did it up yourself.
