MM - Have you ever seen the ginge riding? It's rather crushing as he dances away up hills whilst your doing an impression of an asthmatic warthog I assure you!
CJCP isn't much slower! Personally I'd consider it a minor victory to keep up with either of them and if I did pass them I'd assume they'd either had a mechanical failure or died on the bike :-D0 -

So, this weekend I cleaned my bike. I scrubbed it with both a hard bristle brush and a soft bristled tooth brush. I polished and buffed it. I degreased, I oiled, I changed the pads. I cleaned my rims. I dialed the contact points just right. It was needed I haven't cleaned the bike since last September, lets just say, if ITB saw my bike he would have feinted, if Principe saw it he would have beaten me with an inner tube. It was seriously needed!
So I got up today with a beam of sunlight hitting my persons. Could it be? Could I need sunglasses? Clean bike, near bike gear posted from CCUK. Today was gonna be a good day!
I got myself ready, mouth watering at the thought of the scalps I would claim. I pump my tyre's to 120psi, I leave the house. Straddle the bike and think
"Sh!t"
I had a meeting at 9.30am near the Mall I completely forgot about. I had no time to ride there and get changed or ride to work get changed and go to the meeting. I was 'phlucked'. I had to catch train and go directly there.
Sucks big time!Food Chain number = 4
A true scalp is not only overtaking someone but leaving them stopped at a set of lights. As you, who have clearly beaten the lights, pummels nothing but the open air ahead. ~ 'DondaddyD'. Player of the Unspoken Game0 -

Bit confused by the weather this morning. Clear and light when I left home made me wish I brought my sunglasses in with me, an hour later and the mist is coming in, a further two hours and it's bright sunshine :? Now the bad bits of the day. I was closely overtaken by a bin lorry and wvm depsite giving it a bit of acceleration after the bin lorry passed me.

Coming home and I found another BMW driver who hasn't realised that left hooking a cyclist can become quite bad, luckily I came off without injury.

Hey Bass... I've experienced CJCP's hill climbing ability. I don't think he got out of the saddle - after 25 miles and a decent number of hills he either got bored of waiting or took pity on me and suggested a coffee stop_________________________________________________

That was fun . Legs and lungs felt good, but lacking that ability to sustain speed at the moment. Little battle with the Soloist I saw last week. Passed him on the NKR, and then he re-passed me up Col de Putney Bridge. He looked to be hammering it up there. I *really* hope he was hammering it... I'm very tempted to make him an offer for his bike - it's the old red and grey alu Soloist; a thing of beauty. 8)FCN 2-4.

Fun ride home this evening and *almost* didn't need the lights! Only switched them on in Dulwich with about 3 miles left and TBH I might have got away with it but the light does disappear rapidily :-)
Not so much as a scrap of proper competition until I got into Camberwell where I thought I'd have my work cut out with a rather handy looking guy who was busy trackstanding his Scott roadie next to me. Knowing this set of lights can take a while to change and that antics like that can really seize up the legs I just left him to it! Lets just say I could only just about see his flashing front light as I turned off Denmark Hill down Sunray Avenue :-D
Seems the effort I'm putting in to try and ride the shorter, flatter commutes in a bigger gear is paying off as well as the final climb towards Crystal Palace felt much nicer this evening and I was pushing a bigger gear up there :-) My last chance at a scalp turned off before I could fully open the taps due to traffic but I had a right good blast down the last hill towards the house, just north of 38mph and actually had a driver decide it wouldn't be a good idea to pull across from a road on my right and waited til I passed!0 -
Good ride home form the country leg, really helps having gears even if I do only have 14 really liking the double 53/39 chainring.
Stupidly I forgot to put my overshoes on, not sure which hurts more getting cold or warming up again.
I did laugh at the lorry driver who'd clearly thought it would be fine to drive his lorry down a dark single track lane, shame he didn't notice the bridgeRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Seems it was a good night for all. I decided to have another go at the big E and it turned out to be the right decision. A good warm up fin the form of a blast rom Blackfriars was only slightly marred by the big queue waiting to turn right into PS.
Once I'd wiggled round the corner past all the barriers on PS and the dawdling busses and hybrids leaving the square I could start to build the speed up down to Vauxhall Bridge, dispatching a couple of something or others on the way, only for them to out filter me to the front of the queue at the RL.
No problem thinks I, easing off a bit allowed me to keep rolling until the lights changed and then I could really open up the valves. As I'm still not that familiar with the Embankment, I was mainly concentrating on not hitting anything, so I'm not sure what I passed, but at one point I had to ease up a bit as I was closing on a motorbike that was dawdling a bit. I'm pretty sure I kept north of 25mph most of the way down to Battersea Bridge, apart from the one point where some impatient little twunt in Chelsea Tractor (blacked out windows and alloys of course ) swerved left out of the queued traffic into my path .
I half fancied continuing down the Embankment, but I would really have started to go out of my way, so I turned left and pootled over the bridge and round through QTR before spinning up to Clapham Common. Not much to report from there on, but I did seem to get a good run of GLs and my legs felt fresh all the way back to Carshalton. Are we sure there wasn't a tailwind? Even if there was, still a grade A ride.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Averaged just over 21mph yesterday on the 20 mile commute route... not a hint of SCR action, what a waste.
this morning I was in early and noticed a couple of lovely lady roadies... no real competition though, oh there was one roadie in a yellow and black matching kit and bike, looked the spit of DDD as well. Possibly a future vision of a DDD/Il Prince lovechild??
Anyway I went past him at what felt like a good speed and he offered no resistence..boo
Oh btw my cateye sensor only kicked in 3/4 way through the journey, due to the cold I think.. time to replace the sensors battery?Purveyor of sonic doom

I finally can claim a scalp - 2 in fact!
Don't see many cyclists on my commute, even fewer on nice bikes so this morning was dead chuffed to cruise past a fully lycra'd up chap on his road bike with one pannier. I ride a carrera subway with panniers. He overtook by red light jumping on the pavement further on but I still claim that one as I was waiting at the lights. Almost caught him and another RLJer further on but got stuck behind a red hatchback that was driving right against the curb in the queueing traffic.
Got another coming into Portswood, skinny tyres, flat bar hybrid, spd's and lycra so way above me on the FCN.0 -

Dontcha just hate it when that happens? They look like they might give you a good workout only for you to pass and for them to go belly up! Super average for last night BTW :-D
Found a fast looking chap on a Ribble in Camberwell today (not a winter trainer which *must* mean spring is here!) but he turned off towards Brixton before we had a proper duel.
Did go past another roadie who had semi-RLJ'd at the same set of lights. He was quick as I had to get upto 22/23 to start gaining and about 25/26 to overtake! As I came past I heard a clickety-click of gears changing but lost him after that - partly due to some sublime filtering by myself I think (one of those times where your knuckles brush the side of the queuing bus whilst on the hoods!)0 -

Gaaagggghh! Absolutely appalling traffic from Mitcham Coomon all the way up to Clapham Common, so a late start turned into a disaster, with endless wheeling past stationary traffic.
Thought I'd try out the Embankment in the sunshine, and I think I now know where all the traffic is coming from. I think all the SW London motorists have diverted to Battersea Bridge from Albert Bridge (took them a little while to work it out). By the time I got to the Embankment, it was nearly 9.15, so there was nobody about. Nice weather though.1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! Who am I kidding?)

Nice quiet pootle home last night. Went the longer route round Melksham and Devizes. My calm was interrupted only by my front lights deciding completely arbitrarily to intermittently black out. It was no great inconvenience as I could smack the hell out of them and they'd leap back into life.
The only marginally unsettling moment was hurtling down a couple of pretty tight bends down the hill into Calne from N Wilts Golf Club at 40+ with one hand on the bars and the other belting the crap out of my lights with the other and in the meanwhile hoping I don't get blinded by the oncoming traffic.
All good fun.
This morning was glorious though despite the headwind. A beautiful, beautiful ride in. The kind of morning that lifts your spirits and is truly good for the soul. It was a little icy coming down Bowden Hill but Lacock looked a picture in the early morning sunshine.
I do however have to get my lights back to TF and discuss how they're going to get me home tonight !!Specialized Roubaix Pro SL : Litespeed Titanium Siena : Specialized Allez : Specialized Tri Cross :
