managed to get my bike from Putney Cycles new spoke intstalled, and even managed to get a scalp on the way home.

It was on Upper Richmond Road past the Putney Stations with all the roadworks, he was on a specialized big weave carbon roadie. We're at a pedestiran crossing. He tried to undercut me as the lights flash orange almost RLJ. Dropped surprisingly easily.

Really didn't expect any action this evening. Bonus :)

Amazing how many of us never say thank you to each other for the tow. Why?

First off, a roadie jumps on my wheel through Blackfriars tunnel. He stays there until around Temple Gardens, where he peels off around a coach and turns off up Northumberland Av. You're welcome.

Next up: a chap on a Trek with the "90" (is it a Nike thing?) on his stringy backpack thing. Takes a tow off CB slope and on the flat for a bit. I wave him past. He passes, but doesn't acknowledge the tow. At least do that.

Then, up Priory Lane to the Park, into a corkin' headwind, I've got one rapid SSer (I've been riding with him since the NKR) on my wheel, with a couple more behind him. A quick glance confirms this. I feel like the Pied Piper. Get to the gates, and does one of them says "thanks"? Fat chance. (E.g. anyone riding with JG will notice that he raises his left hand or one of the fingers on his left hand in acknowledgement of even the slighest tows.)

Also saw the same guy as last night on a Principia. Lovely looking bike, sir. 8)

I admit I'm a miserable sod on the commute*, but folks should at least say "thanks".

Also saw the club rider mentioned in an earlier post. I thought he was on a Spesh. Not so. He's on a white Scott and wears full Dynamo kit. What a tool. Stop for red lights, there's a good lad.

*I'm completely different on w/e rides, honestly.

  • Came home late this evening and picked up a right gaggle of roadies, and one manic hybrider.

We thinned out as we left Pt Sq to the hybrider and a roadie, then a car, then me. On the approach to LBR these two were riding side by side, and not in a matey way! I was sitting back watching the fun; they had to slow on the roundabout approach whereas I didn't, but then we were all caught out on the exit almost riding up the chuff of a coach. Must pay more attention.

Off we go onto Millbank, and manic hybrid preacher is trying to draft the coach, but can't hang on. He can hear a moped coming up behind him, and is looking round to grab its wheel ... alas (for him): I have that wheel! Then the moped gets nervous because he's too close to the coach, so I have to dart past him and grab the coach. Easy runnings to VB lights then, and a bit of slowing for traffic, but straight through.

Bit on/off through the DSC as traffic is lumpy, but suddenly I notice an extra shadow where there should just be one. Not sure who this is, but I have a feeling it's manic hybrid preacher. Oh well. I give him a rapido tow to AB lights and then decide I'm done for week and peel off. Some nights I just can't be arsed.

Oooh, crikey, sorry to hear about that, Flamite. Especially the dislocated shoulder bit as I know what utter agony that is. Hope the op goes well (you and Il Principe will both be under the knife on Monday!), and that you heal well and everything works ok afterwards.

 Flamite - are you a crash test dummy in your spare time? Haven't you just recovered from an off?

Was late home that night, so didn't see the ambulance etc.

Any news on whether the police are taking any action against the taxi driver or is this another one where matters won't be taken further?

Yep 2nd off in 2 Weeks, this time I'll be out of action for while though! Seriously considering whether someone is trying to tell me something!!

Taxi did drive off but not entirely his fault such is life!

Maybe the invalids should meet for a pomegranite juice...

The taxi driver drove off?! Did you catch his reg or licence no. before the incident? Have police put up those signs asking for any witnesses to come forward? (I must admit that I didn't spot any on Thursday or Friday.)

Heal up fast. Glad it's not worse than it is.

Lot of ifs and buts this morning.

Saw the animal on the Lemond. Kept him within 20-30 yards all the way from the LRR to CB, despite his RLJing and a liberal approach to zebra crossings. Then lost him in traffic.

A chap on what looked like a Rapha Condor. Lovely bike. Overtook me just after the lights after the railway bridge - he was out of the saddle, on the drops, giving it some. Shaved legs, lower FCN. I set off after him and comfortably kept him 10 yards ahead down DSC. He showed some good reflexes to avoid a U-turn by a private taxi at the end of DSC  . Towed him down Millbank, spinning away nicely at around 28-29. He then filtered much more quickly down to HoP, so I lost him. Darn. Would be good to do battle with him again.

@ flamite: Goodness dude - sounds horrible. Really sorry - get better!
  • Had an interesting bit of sparring 'tother night with a hi-vis chap on a Boardman flat-bar (OK, a hybrid  ). I was stopped at a red-light, like a good elephant, and Mr. Boardman caught me up, him avoiding the need to stop, turning up as he did, just as the light went green. I kept ahead of him, but he drafted me for the next mile and a half. So far, so good.

Now, I was approaching a stretch of dreadful road, potholes aplenty, the likes of which you lot in that London will never have seen, so I slow slightly. He doesn't so much and takes the lead. His turn anyway, I think, so I follow him for a bit. He is really putting a lot in, he's smelt blood and wants to race good and proper.

He's hell-bent for the next mile or so, clocking up 26 mph for the most of it, but there's no way he's getting away from me. He's starting to slow up a bit, so I speed up, sensing he's spent. He pulls into the middle of the carriageway, so I pass to take my turn at the front, he deserves a bit of a rest I figure. At which point he starts to signal and turn right into a caravan park. "This is where I turn", he says, rather red-faced.

Is it buggery, he lives in the same village as me and he's turning off a mile before the big hill as he's done in, and knows I'm going to kill him uphill. "Good effort!", I reply, before accelerating off into the distance.

Ouch. You've not had much luck lately. Get better soon.

Sounds like a bit of a freak accident.

squadra this morning.... felt pretty good after a hard couple days drinking lol.

got down to the bottom of beckenham hill and I catch up to a silver haired roadie with a red M tattooed on the side of his calf... oh what's this no hair on his legs...awesome I dispatch him initially and feel chuffed with my early week prize, a mile of so later he's on my 6 as we're filtering through traffic a very spinny SS'er with trainers on nips past us, I've seen this guy before and he's pretty quick.... we get to molesworth street I'm given the opportunity to open up and I drop them both... for a while

the SS'er is gone and me and M are heading towards deptford faster than I like on this particular road, but weakness isn't allowed we get to the traffic lights to cross over the A2 and the SS'er is there how the hell did he get there?? I can see M having the same thought process. as we set off from the lights there seems to be 6 of us now as we've picked up another 3 roadies (a couple of girls wave at us as we're all not trying to gun it past them) the new 3 get spat out the back and it's back to the 3 of us, SS'er has to turn off right and he's gone to greenwich or CW I suspect. He's got discovery shorts and is fully lcyra'd up yet white trainers... odd.

M seems to have dropped off as well now (probably turned off) near jamaicia road I drop 3 ss/fixed types as I gun it to make the lights... pretty good start to the week I think.

I got badly beaten up by the cold air this morning. Felt like my lungs just shrivelled up; it juts felt like there was nothing I could do about it.

Wheezing, I got into the station late so missed my train; treated myself to a double espresso while attempting to open my lungs by breathing in steam from a hot mug of water. Had a repeat on the other side of the train journey and could barely make it up the stairs and was very thankful for the hot shower.

In spite of that, managed to keep my scalp, and also managed to convert a challenge from a dude on a carbon Spesh Sirrus into a good scalping over London Bridge .

Of course, I could hardly breathe afterwards!
  • Good work Roastie. I used to get the same affliction on cold days, not at all pleasant.
