Chapeau to the guys on the Tricross and the Decathlon who went from Roehampton Gate to Vauhall Bridge this morning. My ride was looking distinctly pootley up till then :)

  • Very quiet as usual for a Friday this morning. Didn't take any scalps worth noting but shared the work on the way in with a guy in a LRC cycling top on a shiny Pinarello, always nice to have some company.
Introduced myself at VB and suggested he check out this thread, when I told him about SCRing his response was "[/i]that explains a lot" :) .

King Donut, I'm shocked, truly shocked: have you not read the entire SCR thread or are you some johnny-come-lately? mmm? mmm?

DSC=Death Star Canyon (Grosvenor Rd heading west after vauxhall bridge)

    @ JG/CJ Thanks!

Erm... I did try reading the whole thread but my boss started to questions my output after a couple of weeks.

I've been wondering myself where DSC is....Dare I ask why it's called that?
Ok, can't find the real clip but around 1min into this one:

Riding west after vauxhall the enclosing buildings give it that feel. IIRC twas GregT who introduced it to the SCR lexicon

Back after nearly 2 weeks sunning myself and eating in Italy, it was great, but I really needed to get on a bike and this morning I had power to spare until my new found lack of fitness kicked in and I slowed at the end.

still I averaged 19.5 for the journey a new pb

on the squadra today, took a few scalps and numerous POSS (people on single speeds) all a bit of a blur though

A rather nasty spot of wine flu and a mere 4 hours sleep resulted in a late start this morning and i made the shocking discovery that there are no roadies on the roads after 9am

Passed several flocks of hybrids but there was not another road bike in sight. :?

  • yesterday lunch time i paid a visit to the bike shop, and am now a member of the 50x16 club. not as knee-breakery as i was expecting, but of course i picked the only day my ride home would take me via crystal palace to try some silly gearing.
this morning was a grin inducing comfortable cadence high speed blur...
I\'m not doing laps, I\'m looking for the way out.

I had to detour via Embankment this am, from P Sq to Tower Hill. Scalped 1 roadie but kept checking behind me nervously for JG et al, esp in the tunnel. Frustrating riding there on the SS, still no one passed me. It is a stretch of road that always leaves me yearning for gears.

there will probably be a free scalp tonight as i'll most likley go back that way after coffee and buns, though strickly speaking i will not be SCR as i'm not commuting.

You must have been a very bad man in a previous life.

On a less serious note :P , do you ride close to the kerb or hedge rows?

Had a decent ride with a not-too-speedy Kingston Wheeler up Fulham Road this morning. We're swapping the lead, maybe doing about 19mph (no speedo on the Jackson), and then we come to the Hyde Park Corner underpass. I follow him down, assuming he'll pull away while I spin out, but he's clearly on an *ahem* recovery ride, so I stay with him. As we hit the up slope, I give it some welly to try and conserve momentum on the fixie, and absolutely shoot past him. Never saw him again.

The people who hand out copies of the metro must get more cycle-savvy. Since I started on the longer commute I've only been able to get my copy on the fly, ie not stopping, but as I usually get my copy by some buslights I always have to stop anyway. Grabbed my copy this morning and uncliped the sternum strap on my bag to put the paper in and scalped an MTB in the process :D but did give him fair chance to reclaim his scalp by having a quick browse of the paper before it went into the bag but he didn't play ball. There was a FBR speccy trying as I left home but soon left him looking at the backwheel, thats the trouble with a 7am depart, nobody to play with. Might try the 9am crowd when I have a day off.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Nearly taken out by a driver turning right across me at the lights, he screeched to a halt just in time. And, yes, it was a.......... minicab.

One full lycra'd roadie on the way. His shorts were so transparent (yuck) that it frankly left no option. Which leads me to wonder, if I'm on a commute (I was) but it's a Saturday so the other roadie probably wasn't, is that SCR? Or does it count as an S½CR scalp?

You were commuting, doesn't matter if the other party was or not.

I think it should count double, if your out in that kit on a Saturday I'd say your either en-route to a club ride or at least a bit of an enthusiast so shouldn't be passed really ;-) Nought on my ride in this morning as I'm also working today, but I need the OT and it's only til 13:00!

There is an upside to transparent shorts, I was out this morning from Versailles to San cyr Ecole, when I was over taken taken by a young lady out on a road bike, her shorts had lost their opacity at the rear, it makes up for the hairy arse@ you see back home in Blighty.

Nearly taken out again on the way home! This time a woman pulling rapidly out of a side turn as I passed, right by Death Crash Bridge. She just slammed on the brakes in time. At least she looked contrite.
