Intrigued by this FCN concept, so followed the link to the FCN calculator.

Um... very alarmed to find I'm FCN 3 and 'swimming with the big fishes' - surely there's an error there somewhere?

Road bike (not shaving legs yet), no luggage, no beard, clipless pedals....WTF?

Maybe I should go back to mtb with slicks - I'd feel happier as a 7. Or start as a 3 and rapidly drop down as people fly past me...

Road bike? Well, 3 sounds about right. I'm a 2-4 depending on kit and cap. I can drop to 1 if I wear wrap-around sunnies, in which case, I'm on the highest state of alert.

talking of FCN numbers I passed a dude this morning who's legs were so hairy he looked like he was wearing tights or at the very least leg warmers

Can I just interrupt normal service to ask someone to point me to replacement brake pads for Tiagra calipers on Wiggle? They're not the type where you slide new pads into a sleeve, they appear to be the type which have a built in metal bit which goes through the caliper and out the other side. I don't want to buy the wrong ones!*

*I already bought the wrong ones, but at least they can be spares for the roadie.

This morning I passed a bloke on a FG charge that looked like a full on racing whippet, lycra from a London shop, shaved legs, sinewy as fcuk. I passed him with a real sense of trepidation (he looked like he'd give JG a run for his money) but either he wasn't playing or I scalped him.* He also RLJ'd a every light but I always reeled him in again.

    *I scalped him.

    I use these.

Or get these and then you can just use cartridge pads.

Yep, very cautious tonight. Nearly came a cropper on some detritus, and the roundabout before entering Roehampton Gate is always a bit precarious in this weather.

Anyone on here ride the Bianchi and turn off down Gypsy Lane? :)

HAd great fun with a hybrid-er this morning, He looked like a wolf man( Mr Burns ???) He jumped EVERY SINGLE red light there was and was freaked out every time he turned round and saw me sat with me dispite the fact I didnt RLJ, I then sat on his back wheel for half a mile chuckkling away while he was throwing his bike around and then decided enough was enough, blew past him, said morning to the roadie going the other way (I have seen this guy for a year now, if you post on here sir then hello) and never looked back. No more action for the rest of the day though

Very slippy, almost treacherous enough to not SCR. Almost.....

Shepherds Bush Road, headng towards Hammersmith, I'm opposite the Fire Station, I've pulled over to the side of the road, stopped as there are multiple sirens blaring down the other side of the road and people are pulling over to let them pass. Some numpty on a roadie hops on to the pavement (rather than stop and wait) and continues his ride at a brisk pace on the pavement and pops off onto the road again at Hammersmith.

His scalp is now sitting in my sadllebag...

Saw someone else on the pavement earlier as well (45-55 year old, horrible BSO). Is pavement riding the new RLJing?

Was rather damp this evening, not for my commute home but for the return journey from the local PC World store after dropping the laptop off for another repair (the accidental damage cover is really handy with such a destructive 18 month old........) It started out spitting which I can deal with but as I got to the last 1/4 mile it was chucking it down and I was having trouble seeing through the glasses :-(

Don't ride your bike into Pripyat/Chernobyl, you'll have to get new tyres! I'm really quite jealous - I'm mildly obsessed with Chernobyl at the minute - do you have a blog? Or somewhere where you could post a truly epic amount of photos? Or a summary of the work? Or anything really... Why did my Real Estate job always take me to such boring places...

I have a confession to make...

...I drove to work today.

In my defence it is for bike related reasons, I have to take home a frame and fork that have been hanging round the office for a month now. At least I'll be riding this evening.

Old Carbon Fibre (I think) Lemond anyone? Down tube shifters, look pedals - Pretty retro, but cool.

Wearing a red Giro E2, between Highburyish and Farringdonish. Quick.

Hooked up with JG again this morning at Lambeth Bridge Roundabout. He took some catching too.

Was in pursuit of a Trek and a Dolan crosser (nice bike, btw, mate :) ) and spotted three roadies giving it some just ahead of them, heading into DSC. So I set my sights on them. Reeled them in by VB lights - a nice carbon Bianchi, a Pearson and JG. JG and the Bianchi sped off past the Morpeth, with the Pearson really giving it some to stay in touch -down in a tuck - so I decided to stay back; wasn't going to catch JG without some superhuman effort and a lot of pain, which I didn't fancy on slippery roads.

Traffic at LBR meant I caught them. The group split at Parlt Square, so JG and I had a nice pootle along Embankment until Blackfriars Tunnel where I confess I got out of the saddle for a sprint to see what speed I could reach, determined not to be Ginge'd for the umpteenth time through there. :) Hit what may have been 34.6 or .9 - but still with JG at 4 o'clock. One wonders what you have to do to shake this man! :) ! Legs died before the end of the tunnel and I wasn't particularly coherent when I tried to converse with JG on the bike path off L Thames St up to Cannon Street.

(Not a scalp, or a PB but ...)

Left home "a bit late" this morning with little chance of making the train on time (where was yesterday's tailwind?). Despite how hard I tried, I just couldn't catch the elusive green wave, so it was looking even more unlikely. Still I was going well, turning into Fenchurch Street, I still had half a chance of getting the train.

I caned it along Fenchurch only to be stopped by the blerrie temporary roadworks lights! Urg. No time to waste, hopped off and did a cyclocross style jog on the pavement to the other side of the roadworks, quick remount and into the train station. After fighting my way through the crowd coming out of the station I got onto the train, dripping with sweat, with approx 15s to spare! :D
