Bikequin wrote:Really nice ride home tonight - lots of roadie action down the NKR - I managed to take quite a few scalps. Although I was on my "weekend" bike so not quite satisfying. Then after Putney bridge it all went a bit wrong. I was drafting a bus quite slowly and got over taken - thought can't have that and put the put down to get my scalp back. At which point I almost very stupidly squished myself under a white van. Survived blasted back up to chap who'd overtaken me. Indeed my surprise attack had left him for dead momentarily however I had to slow for a roundabout and that put him right on my wheel. By this time I'd left myself with nothing in the tank - I couldn't pull away from him and after about 250m he shot past. I can consider myself very very scalped.
Bikequin - what you riding, fella?FCN 2-4.

Was riding a white and black trek Madone today - normally commute on a giant though. Was it you that blasted passed me?You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quin.0 -
Hmm, no. I had a little duel with a chap on a silver Giant though. What colour Giant do you ride, and what times are you on the road? There's a chap on a red Giant wearing earphones, sets off from the Sheen area, I see now and again.FCN 2-4.

The Giant is blue and black- I get through Richmond park between 7 and 7.30. Then home I normally hit Sloane Sq any time between 6 and 7 depending on work. What do you normally ride? and what sort of time? - I whenever I see anyone on a Roadie my first thought is to try and work out if they're playing. I reckon alot of people must play without even realizing it.
I've also just bought myself an HTC so guess I'll be sporting that for a few days - wore it today and felt the need to try and pedal a bit faster at times. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quin.0 -
You're a bit early for me, but there's a prospect of meeting up on the way home. I read the NKR any time after 6.15pm.
I'm on a (dirty) red, unbranded frame - see sig. No reflectors attached to the spokes anymore though, and now have reflective strips on the frame.FCN 2-4.

I'll have to keep a look out for you then - and by the sounds of things then hide if I want to keep my scalp intact.

I am, but not sure about Roastie. I'm expecting to have my @rse well and truly handed to me on a plate tomorrow night.

SCR is getting serious. Saw a guy this morning on a time trial bike with full disc aero wheel (sorry, that probably isn't what they are called, but you know what I mean) and a rucksack on! He was coming out of a side street and he did go the same way as me, can't claim him but he didn't claim me either, not that my baggies, hairy legs, CX bike and panniers would have given him much of a score!0

Last night on the Mills an folder took off from the lights like lightening, it's a dahon and he's wearing work clothes and fast.. so fast that we both skin a shaved roadie with full csc kit a few other FGSS'ers and roadies were left in our wake, I was a little scared about taking him as he might take me back and there's only one loser there
he turns off soon after and my dignity is intact...sort of
Near the end of my commute a roadie on aero bars in his max gear comes past me mashing yet going at a fair lick, I up the cadence and stay within 10-20 metres of him and his massive legs, after a mile of so I know there's a small hill coming up and I know this is my chance he starts on the hill and slows quickly at the peak of the hill I fly past him like he's standing still and I'm not trying, I stay ahead on the resulting downhill and then the long shallow hill right before I get home, I stop to let people cross at a zebra crossing and he nips ahead and then whip him again brutally and he's history. He's either no idea how to ride technically or his gearing was bustPurveyor of sonic doom

Took on some dudes on the Embankment last night, after parliament sq past the Morpeth and beyond. One super quick fixie (surly cross check with little risers) the rest all roadied up, mix of lycra and baggies so some same FCN and others one lower.
Went off like a rocket and got ahead, they caught me at the next lights and got ahead of me, went for it again and really had to work for it, got by just. held it for a while then blew up completely.
Totally lost my scalp, about 5 times over.
The shame.
pootled the rest of the way home, weeping. Not climber, not sprinter, not rouleur0 -
Recovery riding today after yesterdays hill climb - still managed to pick off a Brompton and a guy on a Trek with panniers0
-
Fun this morning, hammering through Brixton in a mini peloton with a bloke on a fixie and a very fast girl. Then picked off quite a few around Elephant & Castle on approach to London Bridge, including very pretty blonde in red top on a blue Trek (made my day ).
Over the bridge, dropped them all with aplomb (well, they all swung left and straight on up KW Street and B'gate while I headed east into the sunlit uplands towards Canary Wharf).
Do mtb scalps count when you're on a road bike? There was a points system I saw a while back.0 -
what about if i'm not pedalling? No hands and lighting a cigarette with a match I've just struck on their Camelbak as I coast past?0

Was on the planet-x this morning and, seemingly, had a mahoosive target on my back. Everyone upped their game as I was trying to pootle to work all the while thinking 'must not react, must not react'. Was pretty tricky as today was the first time I can remember being passed in open play. Still, it's an appetizer for the kicking I'll get at CP this evening0

I'm on the commuter and, as prep for CP this evening, put the hammer well and truly down. :x And it pretty much stayed down all the way along Embankment. There was more in the tank, but I was determined to ride with the hands on the tops of the bars so, outwardly, I wasn't seen to be trying.
Is the roadie on a Spesh, Marmite top, with Santini Cycling News shorts on here? Come on, laddie; reveal yourself. If you are, you're quick.
There was also a chap wearing Rapha on a Litespeed Siena(?), a nippy chap in a Lowlands-looking top on and a couple of other roadies with a bit in the tank.
It was tit for tat along Embankment. So, thanks to them , I'm going to be dropped faster than a hot coal at CP tonight. Will I ever learn?FCN 2-4.

Been on the Bike Radar forum for several years and never realised there was a 'Commuting' section until now!
I'd like to say a big hello to all the fast commuters that go to and from London Bridge from the Greenwich / Lewisham area - you keep me fit enough to be able to race at the weekends thank god!2011 Yeti ASR5 carbon: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5817307/

How about we abandon SCR and opt for teamwork? A truce, shall we say. Just for tonight.
Sounds like fun, although I'm sure you'll drop me pretty quicklypain is temporary, the glory of beating your mates to the top of the hill lasts forever.....................
