Why don't you go to RP and have a beer at the Roebuck. Two birds, one stone and all that.

Weelllll I think I might leave to get changed in a minute... or maybe I'll look out of the window for a bit longer.....So when are you leaving???
I'm just thinking of ways to make my commuter longer...seems a waste to cut short a nice evening with sun and warmth and a little breeze0 -

On my way back to the flat in Versailles from the office in Guyancort, a group of mountainbikers were behind me, I was expecting them to pass, about 1k later going down hill at 20mph I check behind and there is a chap wanting to overtake me. I was suprised, I thought the lads out for the spin on MTBs would have overtaken me by now, they were nowhere to be seen, a fat middle aged chap on a deraileur geared hybrid over takes me and continues to pull away on the down hill, however come the flat bit and then the climb by the barracks he starts to slow down, I on the otherhand am doing the same speed, catch, draft, because there isn't enough room to safely overtake. Bloke blows at the next set of traffic lights, SCR alive and well in the Paris suburbs,
I redeploy to Kiev next month, SCR in the Ukraine.0 -
A-ha! I discovered the identity of Mr Rapid on the Roberts tonight. It's Citycommuter on this forum!
Hooked up at the HoP and exchanged a few words until we went our separate ways at Queen's Ride. (CC - I completely forgot you turn off that way, but, not speaking a great deal on the commute is the usual form for me ).
Nice to meet you and should see you again soon judging by the number of times I've seen you recently.
Not sure what happened in RP tonight, but there was a cyclist (not in lycra) in the recovery position on the grass a few hundred yards short of Robin Hood Gate. People were on the scene and ambulances were arriving, but hope they're ok. There was a car stopped, but judging by the fact that they were in the recovery position and about 10 feet from the roadside didn't immediately suggest a collision with a car.FCN 2-4.

Took a detour on the way home this evening, wife was doing a final fitting for her sister's wedding dress before the big day on Friday (no biking that day - arriving at wedding sweating and in lycra is a definite no no.....). As the fitting was taking part at my parents house which was about .7 miles away from where I was working I jumped at the chance to meet them there knowing I could ditch the backpack and take a slightly longer route home :-D
As I set off I again thought it would be "fun" to limit my gear usage, a trick I'm trying in a bid to get some training from my commute, so off I set and as I rode I found myself gravitating towards the hillier option.........I know this might sound like a none-starter in SE London but I was heading towards Crystal Palace/Norwood so can take in some gentler inclines that should prove a good workout in the 73GI I had set as my minimum :-)
It was all going good until I got towards South Norwood Hill where it gets a bit steeper, trackstands at the two sets of lights I did hit helped hugely although I did think I was going to rip my handlebars off pulling away from the second set, rather "challenging" to get going and the legs probably won't like me for it tomorrow but I think I earned my blast down Grange Road today! No scalps but I did beat one of those Smart Roadsters to South Norwood high street from Ashburton Park0 -

I saw that. Was still as you describe so not sure either. Also about halfway between Ham Gate and Kingston Gate there was lots of cars stopped (mostly just traffic I think though) and another ambulance.
Not a good day in RP! Hope everyone is Ok- Genesis Croix de Fer

Awesome ride in today, big shout out to the two guys on the Bowery and a white Bianchi - we got a good group going for some mutually beneficial scalps.
Didn't get a chance to say thanks before i turned off at Blackfriars, so if you read this - good hustle.0 -
Yep, great ride in this morning. Scalp in tact.
If anyone reading this is the chap on the blue Ribble on Embankment abround 8.30 this morning, I'm impressed with how long you can stay on the drops!FCN 2-4.

First day for quite a while that the legs are feeling good (or maybe that tailwind is stronger than I thought as everyone heading in from the west seems to have had a good ride this morning?)Commuting FCN 7: Green Roberts

I think there was a bit of a westerly wind on Embankment as I was holding 26mph instead of the more usual 22-24. That doesn't bode too well for the commute home!FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

This road bike lark is good for the soul but bad for the scalp, I find. Massive headwind this morning along the coast road. Got to the super windy stretch between Prestonpans and Musselburgh racecourse and I see a floundering roadie ahead. I'm catching easily and overtake, he obviously takes his cue to MTFU and comes back at me 200 yards further on. He'd obviously forgotten about the headwind, because he crumpled almost immediately, so I retake. This went on for the next couple of miles, though with him overtaking less and less, and we got chatting.
Turns out he's yet another roadie from my village, came out with the classic SCR'ers line, "I'm glad you came along, I was just pootling before!".
Got attacked by a wily old roadie on Porto prom too, but he blew-up pretty quickly (thankfully). A good day all round.0 -

theres always a westerly wind on the embankment
I can confirm a strong headwind when going westwards on embankment, enjoy tonight chaps0 -
I wasn't feeling it at all this morning, so thanks to the Dynamo chap with curly hair who I encountered in Parsons Green. One of those "you're not going to scalp me, sonny" situations for both of us, so after testing one another, we had a nice chat instead He admired my pink bike - well, I say admired, but that might not be exactly the right word for it...0

I think you passed me this morning turning on to Putney Bridge. Although I'm basing this purely on the fact that it was some guy on a red bike who I later saw on Embankment sporting a blue Ribble on his backside.
We may even have sat at the lights turning on to NKR together before I let you off the hook (I had a wind assisted pootle for the first 10 miles, before upping it for the final 6.). Reeled you in by HoP and maintained visual along embankment. Was lining you up for a good blast through the tunnel before we both got slowed by the red just before.
I would have liked to have reclaimed my scalp 7 miles after losing it, but today it is yours. Enjoy it.0 -
