Guilty of the above too. rode in yesterday in the rain with Lidl sunnies on and my Mars 3.0 clipped on the saddlebag and switched on.

yep, you know the bit from The Monkeys opening titles, where Davy Jones rides into the sea on the bike, well imagine when he gets out, that was me on the way home. In fact scratch that imagine what he was like when he was in the sea. :(

Tragically this deluge sees me trapped in the Morpeth. ITB, you should've come for a beer; I'm mildly pissed yet thoroughly dry.

I can report that I thought I was going to arrive home looking like a drowned rat due to the shorts and sleeveless top I was wearing as I rolled out of the underground car park shortly after 5pm today......it was pi$$ing down and it was that proper golf ball sized rain drops!!

I think it had stopped by the time I hit Vauxhall Bridge and it didn't even look like it had rained in Balham so talk about a localized rain shower!

Think I spotted a SS riding relation of the roadie Blu3cat encountered on the way home. RLJing tw4t nearly got himself sanwiched between a car and van approaching a red light that he clearly had no intention of stopping for, it changed as he was moving between the 2 vehicles at a good rate of knots and had to jump on the anchors pretty sharpish.

But then how would I clock up a mega miles week  oh yes some RAIN or RAIN i'm out there.

25 miles home this evening through some puddles which were ankle deep and I'm on a CX bike, thankfully

    Sure is wet out there...

Whilst in the shower after the shower I couldn't tell if the water was hot or cold and my skin was still v cold still that's nothing compared to the cold of the ML, eh folks!

For a change, superb weather here in Sunny Glasgow, had to watch out for sun burn on way home last night, as well as speeding RLJing BMW's. Cracking morning ride, too but into a decent, but refreshing wind. Only one scalp, and feel bad about it as was a fit looking girlie on a commuter bike loaded down with panniers and a satchel, however, she did skip by me yesterday.... so good to get past, although she certainly was doing a good speed, for a chick on Maryhill Road

Think it was the weather ;-) Saw a couple of quick guys coming round the corner by Clapham North as I was waiting at the lights by the common. Caught up with them at the lights by Stockwell but they went the wrong way after that :-(

Funny, mine was busier than usual - bikes, cars and peds. I put it down to leaving about 20 mins later than usual.

No pootling for me, still aggravated from last night :?. There is nothing as calming as mercilessly hammering the pedals.

My first puncture in about 4000 miles today. Luckily it was a) dry and b) about 50 yards from my office, so no drama. Shame to ruin the lovely round number in the SC stats column :(

Last night I encountered not one but 2 fellow SCRers! Well, I say encounter - I saw cjcp on Lower Richmond Road as I was walking in to Putney at about 7.55 last night, and he was already past me by the time I recognised him so I thought shouting after him might be a bit disturbing!

And I actually met Homercles, who recognised my fixie - can't think why... There was I, turning onto Queen's Ride having sized up a fellow FGSS rider in a blue top ahead of me - I'd caught him fairly quickly so I assume a standard scalping was in order. I pass him easy enough, then setlle down into my standard 1 or 2mph quicker than usual but still not trying mode.

And then, 20 seconds later, I hear someone coming up beside me. I assume it's a pro out on a training ride - fair dos, I won't cry too much about being passed - but no, it's the chap from a moment ago, who asks if I'm on bikeradar! Sadly I was only about 30 seconds from my turn off at this point so we didn't speak for long, but lovely to meet you fella, and if you're regularly on that route I'm sure we'll encounter each other again. You don't fancy joining in the slowcial on Sunday?

No need to apologise! I was walking on the pavement on the other side of the road about halfway along LRR, and I had an umbrella, so I probably wasn't even slightly visible! I actually recognised your frame before I recognised your face :)

Not a commute as my job doesn't start till sept, but i thought i would get some training in, but where in the food chain are Greenwich council transit flat beds??? that's about the only scalp I got, some numpty on a road bike with a yellow jersey rlj'd twice in front of me as I was about to pass him and he got through the next red light which stopped me grrrrr.

Not bad after a month's lay off on a hardtail mtb on slicks ;-)

(Soggy) hands up who left their mitts balled up in their helmet last night rather than drying with their shoes?

And thanks to the rain for blowing up my Garmin Edge 305. For once something breaks 3 weeks INSIDE the warranty rather than outside.

Near miss on the way home.

going round Wandsworth one way on Armoury Way and heading up to Ram street cruising along at about 20 mph and a quick chap (who looks like he has had plenty of practice) on a trek in full Dulwich Paragon gear comes up at least 25 mph+, he obviously eased past me and then realises the futility of the gesture, changes lanes and we part our ways. Lucky for him.

Fine ride home this evening and I'm sure I heard a chap I'd just sorta scalped mutter a "good" as we parted ways at a junction :-) I say sorta scalped as I came past him as I filtered around a bus but after that we had free use of a bus lane and then a second section of slightly busier road - it was along here that I sensed him behind me but the lights ahead changed meaning we both ended up stopped together.
Catching him was the most fun I've had all week on that stretch of road, I turned onto Streatham High Road from the horrid junction just after the station - it's rather treacherous due to the angle of the turn, the stupid car drivers behind you and the moon-surface like road that you have to negotiate. Once you are safe in the bus lane and it's clear tho you can open the taps somewhat and I let rip this evening  especially as it was the first time this weeks it's been clear enough to allow such a sprint.

am i missing some secret hand signals?

i'm next to some roadie at the lights last night waiting to enter parl sq, he's off quicker than me and i follow him into the filtering traffic, he then puts his hand behind him and gives me 2 fingers, as in the V sign, but not in a rude way,,,

what does this mean? 2's? as in lets draft eachother down millbank??

didnt hang about to find out, blasted away down millbank and he was nowhere in sight...

  • WTF...page 2?!

Quickish ride to Paddington this AM...lovely morning it was too - I love the coolness of a summer's morning (think it was quite a clear night) combined with the warmth of the rising sun. C'est magnifique!

Not much abt though did teach a couple of people a lesson on the drag strip. I do enjoy people inching past me at the lights....just means more scalps - obviously don't take em till we're up to full pace.

Side note - took a trip to RP last week and did a 20 minute-ish lap though had to cut a 3 lap attempt short due to weird shortness of breath....perhaps a combination of hangover + cold + close humidity. Nonetheless, I told myself to MTFU and kaned myself on the ride back from the park.

    SCR was cancelled this morning.

Due to the incidents along the river it was diversion time. Nipped back north on waterloo bridge. Went through the Strand underpass for the first time: how cool is that? Had a minute or so of 'where now?' but then followed my nose to holborn, past greys inn road and straight all the way to old street. Easy enough but those streets north of embankment are medja, I tell you.

New record for me today, almost taken out with only 0.34 miles on the computer  I was happily racing along one of the residential backroads approaching a mini-roundabout, all clear from the right so I keep going (@ around 20mph) and have to slam on the brakes and lock up the rear wheel after some tw4t in his white van comes speeding down the hill from the left! He's thankfully spotted me and his Transit is fitted with ABS and promptly manages to come to a screeching halt!!!

The alternative route also brought me one "scalp" but I really don't think he was trying and RLJ'd by the station before turning the wrong way for me to do him again :-(

Headed over London Bridge today I took on a Bendy this morning and lost. :( I'd love to blame a long day in the saddle yesterday but, alas, I think I just lack top speed.

What were the incidents along the river? Traf Sq and the Strand were grid-locked but fortunately that's the end of my ride.
