10.5 miles from SW to EC London takes me around 40 mins usually. PB of 32mins.

I don't time many of my commutes but Willesden (GF's flat) to Borough I've done in just under 30 mins (all in), that's Distance: 8.07 miles, but a fair whack of lights. Edgeware Road and Park lane can be good for speed, but the rest is slower. Borough to Pimlico (my flat) takes around 10 (less if the gods are with me) mins. It's 3 miles.

Almost time for another episode of out of the saddle cross London cycle commuting, although I think tonight's is a repeat.

14.3mph this week so far (100 miles)

    EDIT: It is pretty hilly...

Todays run 9.7 miles in 35 minutes door to door. But I haven't got the London traffic to contend with.

Yes. 11.3mi in 42mins is an average day. The last mile really drags the average down. Quite a bit slower the last couple of days ;)

Edit: that's the way in. PB for the way home is 34:45

Sorry Blondie I tend to average 17mph on my Willesden - Borough run (according to Garmin)

    With auto-pause/resume on or not?

I need to work out my average speed... and how to get my cateye back into mph.

If you've thrown the instructions out, like I have, maybe this link to the Cateye site will help.

    Happy reading :?

Hmm.... I spend too much time at the lights it seems!

Today I was chasing after an old roadie guy.. When I gave up I got scalped by a fixie. Boo hiss!

What a lovely ride home today. I was feeling so nice and loose and, despite the headwind, it felt spot on. Had a nice little train behind me from MIllbank onwards - always feels good. :)

Usually around 15mph average on the way in (often more like 17, PB bang on 18 ). Usually quicker on the way home due to "The Embankment Effect".

    Auto-pause OFF. No RLJ.

Even though I left home 10 mins later than normal there were many more bikylists about in Brizzle today. took off from home with 2 mtbs as windbreaks which were soon despatched as these were heal pedalers. At one set of lights I was at least 1m from the kerb and the space gets filled by another bikylist, I sit there waiting for the cycle of the lights and thinking he's going straight on and we're gonna have an incident. Just about to ask him which way he's going and he's off through the RL :x . By time the lights change and I set off in pursuit but he's gone, probably turned off into a side street.

Need to wear my HRM now that I'm on a longer commute and playing with the speeds of cars etc.

I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Recently my average speed went up from 15.5mph to 16mph for my 14mile commute from Bromley to Blackfriars.
Although I was lucky as there were no muppets deciding to cut me up on their £49 supermarket mountain bike as I try and pull away at lights.

On the road bike today - bit wet out. Tired legs today - manned up off a couple of sets of lights and that was it.

Simple slowish ride in, no one out to play though :-(

The roads seemed quiet again this morning - but then again I did actually leave on time rather than 20 mins late like previous 4 days!

Had a nice little spat with lycra'd-up, shaven & bronze legged dude on a "flat bar road bike" through Borough High St. Yay for me.

Also knocked 2s off the best for the morning ride, but I do think there may have been a bit of a tail wind.

    Roads were very quiet today.

Was in full roadie mode today with the Focus Cayo but was staying in my 'zone 3' for the ride so no SCR.

Nice chat with a guy on the Old Kent Road made the ride more enjoyable.

Borough High Street seemed everyone wanted to race me away from the lighst which was a complete and utter waste of time as there is no space until you hit the bridge. Guy on a brompton really went for so i wound it up a bit to scalp him and show him he's not worthy!

Am I the only one or was the breeze last night a little on the "oh fer fecks sake" side?

This morning was a joy however. Particularly beating the lights just before the Blackfriars tunnel big dipper.

I obviously showboated two hands aloft to mark my victory over amber.
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?

:D:D after emptying the contents of my mouth over my company laptop (biscuits and coffee) :D:D those highlighted words reminded me of a conversation I had with my 13yo niece on the use of language and context. "init blud" are words used with friends and NOT teachers, shop assistants etc - whether in South London or elsewhere

It felt rather blowly when I left at 6ish.

As for all these people SCR'ing down Borough High St. How do you do it? The road surface there is positively lunar, on the rare occasion I go that way I always think my fillings are gonna get shaken out, and I don't even have any fillings. It's the sort of road that makes double sussers look like a good idea.

    RIGHT.

    That is IT.

I am going back to my normal gearing on Monday.

Heading along Uxbridge road this morning, at a decent-ish pace, about 22mph, slow for a light, head off again, and suddenly realise that someone is on my wheel. Cr@p.

I spin up, hit about 24.5mph, and check in one of the handy reflective shop windows. He's dropped back, but he's still there... and he's on a hybrid. Oh god.

I continue to accelerate, hit 43kph, and check again. At this point I'm really getting towards spinning out - I can hit and retain this sort of speed at this gearing with an 'on-ramp' hill, but not so much on the flat. I'm starting to bounce.

Shop window check, and he's about 5 bike lengths back, but still there. I slow for an errant bus and stop for the lights at the triangle.

He RLJs past a few seconds later, breathing very heavily.

Jesus wept. Nearly lost the top of my head there.

Agree Borough High Street is no place to be scalping. More interested in staying on the bike.

Yes, I was thinking the very same thing last night...had some drinks at Monument so headed down that way.

Was really motoring along but had to constant slalom to avoid the various potholes, ridges, etc. Failed to spot one and a serious jolt....

I tried that route once when I thought that there must be better route than Lower Thames St.

The grass is not greener bretheren - Southwark = heavy weapons test range impact area and I'd rather pogo stick in a minefield than do that route again - which is precisely what it feels like

I didn't read this thread yesterday so I'm backtracking a bit.

My commute is 20.05 miles best time is 1.08 door to door maybe some brainiac could work out the ave for me, i'm in friday mode.

The wind last night was horrendous! I changed my route the other week which unfortunately includes about 5 miles of arrow straight A road which the wind thought it would be fun to howl down yesterday - total time 1.25  It didn't help when I saw some git cruising down with the wind

Don't say that sort of thing!

Had all my bags and panniers on today, but still whipped some big fat guy who RLJ'd to get past me. A poor victory but after yesterday I need it!
