+1 you scalped him fare and square.

This made me think about having a "mechanical problem" in the midst of an SCR dual. I guess that having a mechanical such as dropping a chain allows one to retain their scalp.

  • After not playing THE GAME for the past year, I have decided to update my signature given I have 12 months baseline on which my soul knows where I lie in the food chain. Despite riding a dirty hybrid, I like to think I can mix it with the 'big boys'. Though I know when I happen upon a roadie in team kit, the game is usually up. Anything over 27mph on the flat and my pain generators are screaming "I can't get nae more power, Capt'n".

I would also like to reflect on what factors contribute to the "value" of a scalp:

Here are my musings so far:

    - The difference in FCN between scalper and scalpee
    - The speed differential at moment of scalping
    - The amount of visible effort expended (inverse) + cadence?
    - The amount of distance put between scalper and scalpee post scalping
    - Gradient (oh the shame, of being passed on a Col)

However, some of the best scalps are the spoils of hard fought battles where some of the above are irrelevant and blood, sweat & tears are required.

Any SCRers out there if you see a bloke in blue jean, white shirt with a red/white rucksack 'normal' shoes on a bright red SS going snails pace slowly and clearly in lots of pain in the family area be sure to say hi! :(

Did a few cars on the way home this evening :-D I would like to say it was just due to me being so damn awesome and quick but I think it was made easier by the stupid women in the A-Class who thought her car was about 10ft wider then it actually was giving way to all oncoming cars at any "tight" points!

Held of a scooter briefly, sounded like I was being chased by a swarm of bees ;-)

Also witnessed a car jump not one but two red lights today! Here's to hoping that *maybe* he was caught on CCTV and that they could also make out the fact that numpty driver was on his mobile at the time. I think what was more alarming was the fact he did briefly stop for each red before driving on.......I don't think the chap in the white van and me could believe his idiocy!

indeed or you have gravety on your side!

I hit 30-35 on two bits of my commute:

Guess if any gravity is involved...

This evening I was feeling knackered, and hit 10mph in the other direction on those stages.

    37mph this morning.

Slipstreaming a lorry on the downhill section, I had to keep touching the brakes. Not bad for a BSO

I was barely able to sit in the saddle for the first 10 miles this morning, I need some urgent saddle sore advice

    Back in The Game today....

Plenty of noobs about, so, rich pickings this morning and some swervey action. Slightly annoyed at the prize pr1ck in the Blue Golf that undertook me as I turned right on the round-a-bout outside my office - tw@t cut me off as he decided to go right too and I had to brake very hard while leaning into the corner.........idiot then pulled into my office car park and parked outside my building. Staggering level of ignorance as he clearly knew what he was doing and I may have to work with the pillock....or he may apply for a job in my dept....which I won't give him!!

It figures that if I am on that round-a-bout there is a good chance of us going to the same place - so why take a risk?!

The Dragon ride ain't gonna be much fun then...

You could try a triple whammy of:

    1: Lots of ibuprofen
2: Rubbing pile cream on the area
3: Using cushioned corn plasters to take the weight off.

    Enjoy

    Got scalped this morning
by a lad on a rigid MTB with baggies and rucksack - me on a CX with lycra( and mudguards )

I wouldn't mind but I was doing 22mph which is usually pretty safe round here, especially from MTBs.

Obviously I overtook him again and burnt him off doing 27, but I still feel he got me :(

Shite ride today. First after a week off the bike due to a real heavy cold.

Coughing and wheezing for the first 10 miles and my slowest time ever at 51.06 even though I rode the Focus in. 15.8mph average

Chest feels clear now so the ride home will be better.

Plenty of scalps to be had I think.

Great weather here this morning. Tucked in behind a bus which pulled me along North Road at 30mph for about half a mile - I knew buses were good for something :D

Last night however I could have been toast due to an idiotic truck driver. A rigid axle drain cleaning lorry stopped over the cycle only zone at red lights (a common occurence), I chose not to go on his inside (on the cycle only lane) which was lucky, lights went green, he turned left with no indication.

:D I've got a nice hill nearby where I can hit 45mph, still trying for the magical 50mph but think I need to fit an 11t sprocket to get there.

I hit 48 kph today... still haven't switched back to my normal gearing so I was spinning like a lunatic, and it's not even 30mph! And I can't seem to work out how to get my computer back into proper units.

In other news, my word there was a lot of traffic on kensington high street this morning. Really slowed me down. I should have joined the rest of the cyclists on the pavement...

    Ewww see-through shorts.

There was much scalping to be had today, but a lot of re-scalping at red lights.

If this continues I'm going to start having words to people who travel at 4mph but plant themselves in front of me at lights. :x

    I hit 30 mph up a hill today :D

I was coming down one at 35 just before though :(

But yay for me for not losing too much speed :D

No other cyclist today though, I suspect they all drowned last night when the road turned into a river.

    How is 48 k not 30 m? Divide by 8, multiply by 5 ...

Or are you taking into account the stray 9 metres that makes up a mile? That's jolly diligent if you are.

Indeed. Like the chap like night who plonked himself beyond the ASL ahead and to my right. He pulled away very slowly and chopped across my front wheel. Cue general venting expletive. Grrr.

I divide by 62% (in my head of course) 29.75mph

I suspect this is similar to what LIT does but with more decimal places cuz she works in the numbers business 8)

Alright maths-man... I plugged it into google and it said 29.83, which, whatever angle you look at it from, is not quite 30mph.

While you're there with your crazy maths skills, how can I work out the circumference of an ellipse? I need new P-clips, my pannier rack is wobbly.
