To the lady who, as I was overtaking a line of stationary traffic (on the right, in the empty right-hand lane of a one way street) emerged from between two cars, looked at me approaching, declined my invitation to proceed, waited till I got close and then lurched into my path and FROZE......at least my anguished cry of Aaargh! (accompanied by wet-canti-squeal and some skidding) gave the guy following you a laugh

Chapeau to me for managing to avoid you !

What is it with those people? Quick nod of the head to indicate "go on, after you" - nothing - repeat nod - nothing - say "after you, go on, I've stopped now anyway" complete with wave of hand - nothing - assume they are rooted to the spot so carry on only to have said ped walk straight in front of you.

  • To drivers in general.

Will you please stop shouting out of your passenger window at me.

I can't hear what you are saying most of the time and, frankly, I dont much care either.

You concentrate on driving your car and I'll concentrate on riding my bike. I'm sure neither of us is trying to wind the other up on purpose.

    Thanks

A guy at work that drives a LWB Transit has just bought a bright red A4 sign with white bold capital letter that say "CYCLISTS DO NOT PASS THIS SIDE" that he's sticking on the left side of the rear doors of his van. He says it's cos there's a blind spot that he can't see and cyclists always shoot past when he's about to turn left. I asked him if he always indicates and his reply was a kind of "erm yeah well yeah corse I do, I woudln't be able to proove that I was anyway if I knocked a cyclist off"...

I did try to explain that 99.99% of cyclists are not trying to get killed so would not go up the inside of anything that was indicating left. Ignorance is ignornace...

    Why have they done that?

is it national ride/drive like a total fecking numpty day?

nearly got taken out by 2 bikes, 2 cars, a bus, and another bike came ridiculously close to wiping out my buddy- as in nigh on taking out his back wheel because he was attempting to draft him around a roundabout.

Rant is too strong, but it doesn't warant a thread so here we go.

People who decide that another man's purchase is a waste of money - that does my head in y'know. Leave it. It's not up to you to decide how much someone spends.

What am I on about? Thread over there in Road, chap has £2k to spend through C2W and has asked what to buy from his short list of nice gear, and there they are moaning about how 2 grand is too much for a first bike, and how you wouldn't buy a new driver a Porsche, and how he won't be able to sell it if he doesn't like it as it's C2W, etc etc.

Look. He's presumably done his sums. Not everyone is a part-time waiter in some dubious fast food restaurant on £3 / hr + tips. A 2 grand bike isn't 3 times faster than an entry level bike in the way that a Porshe is 3 x faster than a Fiesta, it's just a whole lot more enjoyable to ride - think Escort Popular v Focus Ghia, that's what I said anyway. And someone coming new to riding is way way more likely to stick with it if he kicks off with something really nice, rather than a Halfords base model. He'll also save himself the cost of buying the bike he didn't want in the first place when he realises just how good it is, if he does make the mistake of buying the cheaper option.

So if someone has looked at what's around and wieghed up how much he wants to spend, lay off the easy criticism eh?

On my daily commute I travel through Battersea High St crossing York Road on my way to Clapham Jct. I have had to take evasive action on numerous occasions avoiding vehicles jumping the lights heading east along York Road. Its the most dangerous junction I have come across in London and its only a matter of time before a cyclist gets taken out by RLJing motorist!

  • Athelstan Road!! Why is it that 90% of all incidents I have occur on this particular road?

To the blond bint in a Mini last night, overtaking on a bend, with traffic blocking the oncoming lane is plane dumb. I really thought I was going to have to bail out to the pavement you were that close! You probably didn't even notice me shouting and gesturing at you as you were in such a rush, idiot!

    Dear Kingston Council,

I assume that you've seen the weather reports for today and tonight forcasting that it will be the coldest day of the year sof far and probably won't get above freezing and have topped up your gritters accordingly? If this is the case, can you please explain why you sent the road sweepers out this morning to spray water all over the part of the road extending two feet from the kerb?

It's been a dry night and conditions were perfect, but you thought you'd keep us cyclists on our toes (or backsides) didn't you.....

Just nearly got m'self run over in a supermarket car park, by some young bint driving along showing only her parking lights. Yes I know I should keep my eyes open but I'd just had to avoid a bloke with a wayward trolley. Anyhow, I neatly side-step the dimly lit bintmobile and - like you do - pointed pointedly at her her headlights; she stopped and wound the window down so I smiled at her & said 'your headlights aren't working', she looked absolutely & totally baffled. Try again - 'you've only got sidelights on'. Cue vague wiggling of various switches & controls, to no avail. 'Here - look', I said, and leaned in and switched them on for her [I used to have one]. Cue big smiles, thanks all round, and the voice in the passenger seat exclaiming 'I wonder if that's why we keep getting flashed'.

Sometimes, you just wonder how many Lucky Bags did have a driving licence inside. There's not many other feasible explanations.
