I've been told to "Fuck off back home you English cunt"........ I'm a Welshman living in Scotland. Maybe the ultimate insult?
Small minded village idiots wherever you go.0 -
At least you can get them on your side Michael! Tell them you're Welsh and they'll probably mutter something about being a "fellow opressed nation" and buy you a drink!
You're right though. There's idiots everywhere. Course, England has plenty of them too.0 -
You have a few choices heavy, give back as much as you take, move, or give them a slap0

I loathe it in the pub on match day when, especially Wales v England, but just when England play anyone, there are the two 'songs'.
"Always 'defecate' on the English side of the bridge" and the other one about where chariots should be placed.
When you consider that in general, rugby is one of the most 'friendly' sports when it comes to supporters, old rivalries run deep but are rightly diluted by lots of beer and respect.

The "stick your fkin chariots" song always grates with me. Sounds a bit too 'football terrace' to me and although I don't know the history, I'm sure it was invented by Welsh students who seem particularly vehement in their dislike of England and their fans, despite the fact that they should have half a brain being 'scholars'. Unfortunately I think nationalism is bred in many environments, from the valleys mining town to the city student union.
Back to the rugby....Hook in for Wales against France and Wilko dropped for only the second time in history in favour of young Cipriani. Should be interesting although I don't think the Irish result really matters now that its ages until the next meaningful match. And good news for all England haters....Balshaw retains his place!0 -
What planet is Ashton on???!!!!!!
So Wilko takes the chop for the entire poor performance last week....there should have been more changes than simplyt dumping Johnny for young Danny, who only a week ago was treated with similar shoddiness!0 -

I suspect the key to any improvement will be the dropping of Ashton. Which I hope will happen before the England v Baa-Baas game in June0 -
Despite the record number of points clocked up by Wilko, he hasn't been playing terribly well and so it should come as no surprise that he isn't in the starting line up. The surpriseis that there are a number of others who do start on Saturday, notably Ian Balshaw as usual. Two wheels good, four wheels bad0

I think the reason swing low riles the Welsh so much is the song is originally a slave song from the Caribean and has been sung in rugby clubs in Wales (probably due to influence from Tiger Bay in Cardiff ) for longer than I can remember and suddenly is taken over by the English fans as they do not know any other songs and it has few words to remember
I am surprised only WIlko was dropeed !! How long can Rob Andrew stay in his position? Come to think of it , what does he do?
I hear last week he proposed English players have nothing to do with the next Lions Tour unless they change the dates of the Tour for him and reduce itinery? Hmmm don't think that will go down very well.
Interesting weekend coming up.
Ireland and England game could turn out to be war of atrition as both side looking to salvage some pride.0 -
I missed the game and I'm kind of glad. I heard Lawrence Dellalio on radio 5 talking about a lack of inventiveness. He pointed out you can't just kick the ball and hope someone gets under it and that'll create something. They need to sort out how to attack. Use volcano or get rid of him (maybe a move to centre). . How does he get on at club level? Stop running into the middle, getting the ball out and running it back into the middle again. Be creative for fecks sake!
Ashton's got to go after this. What's the odds of poaching Gatland and Edwards? I think that boat has sailed.0 -

[I/quote]
I used to sing "Swing Low Sweet Chariots" on the coach coming back from schoolboy rugby matches in the sixties. It was a favourite amongst us because of the lewd actions that accompanied the words. This continued into the old boys games and when I played briefly for Barclays Bank sides. At the time it was not sung at Internationals at all.
I believe it was adopted at Twickenham simply because it was a fun song sung by rugby enthusiasts who were also players.0 -
[rant]Another not-terribly-interesting weekend of rugby...
Wales & France certainly deserve to be the front runners as the least awful teams thus far....
The Calcutta Cup was a truly awful match, made far worse for me by useless commentary (we have our own commentary up here for the Calcutta cup, which would be better if they didn't keep missing things, getting things wrong & being so utterly partisan, that comments in a city centre pub would be more erudite). The result was deserved, but what's happened to the Hadden who set the tournament alight a few years ago? & what's Ashton doing just making one change? Scotland have made more than that & they have fewer reserves. & Balshaw's still in the team!!!! Does he have some really juicy gossip on Ashton?
I quite liked Ashton before, but this tournament has made him look utterly out of his depth. He needs to re-think or go. There's no apparent long or short-term plan, I have no idea what he's doing, or why? Hadden also needs to have a wee think about his approach since Scotland have gone from almost winning to competing for the wooden spoon.
I'm busy next weekend, so will prob miss all of the matches, which I'd normally be upset about, but am not this year. I can't remember a worse tournament. At least France v Wales stands a chance of being almost interesting[/rant]0 -

I suspect a lot of England supporters will find an excuse to be busy next weekend.
Wales will be closed for all but essential business, i.e. watching rugby..0 -
Richard, Hadden has moved away from the way Scotland used to play and has now tried the English approach of having huge forwards and winning from penalties gained instead of playing an open game.
Ok, England did win a world cup that way and were not far away this time, but it is so boring to watch and in the long term, in between world cups drives supporters away and this is dangerous for crowd sizes (which pay salaries) and TV sponsorship, and also for future potential players because if it looks boring, who wants to play?
I stopped playing in the eighties as I was bored stiff of playing 10 man rugby that was all the rage at the time, thats when I took up cycling
You cannot really argue about Wales this year as they have scored some really good tries and you can see the huge difference in points between them and the other teams.
Lets be honest, most rugby fans look forward to watching France play, NZ also and even Wales, as you are pretty sure they will try to play an attacking game.
For th eopposite reason I am not looking forard to the Englan Ireland game, but maybe as both teams have nothing to play for, they may expand their game a bit. That is one good thing about Cipriani, his natural game is to attack. You cannot coach a player to be inventive. That comes from an early age when you play and it is nutured, not coached out of you by too many technical coaches.
I remember a few years ago when Wales lost a lot and Shane WIlliams used to get some stick for trying too much, but you could not fault his effort, but now he is getting great reviews. It is always easier playing in a good side as the mistakes are less noticed and some one else tends to cover you
I am hoping the tournament finishes with a flourish in all games because there is nothing on two of the games so they can really go for it.
I dont believe the Welsh team will even be looking at the points difference but bet the coaches will, as they have to as it is their job to know when to close a game down if required.
Hope it does not come to that and Wales win in style. I cannot see France turning up and playing tight, but Wales have to be a bit patient starting of I think.0 -
Wales to clinch the slam? England to put in a decent performance and save Ashtons neck? Italy to win a match? Thats what I reckon.0
-
I personally hope Ireland beat England, but I'm predicting an England victory there. Italy to beat Scotland. The 6 nations needs Italy to win games, so hopefully it'll come tomorrow.
As for Wales-France, I refuse to make any prediction there.
If you get bored of the warm up games, here's Wales from 1978:

A great game. Wales defended well and bar the errors made, took advantage of French complacency and deserve to win and the grand slam. My only complaint was the BBC obsession with the WAGs, but can't have everything I guess! Did you all see Sean Edward's interview afterwards as well? I seriously doubt he'll still be in the Wales set-up by time next year's 6 nations start.
The French didn't seem to care at all. All that chopping and changing showed today. Their forwards were shocking. Pretty silly as they do have adequate players there. Ah well, they're a progressing team I guess.
Ah, and well done to Italy. Was a very entertaining game and great to see Marcarto get that late drop goal and seeing the Italian fans go crazy. May Rugby in Italy continue to progress.0 -

Good games really. Nice to see Italy win and I was pretty sure they would as Italy wouldn't hand the game to Scotland on a plate like England did last week. Talk about biased commentary though. Brian Moore (unfairly in my opinion) always gets criticised but how one-eyed was Andy Nicol? Scotland sometimes look good but everything looks like training ground moves. I was glad to see Italy slot that drop goal to shut him up!
England looked good against Ireland which is good but frustrating as they don't seem to have followed a smooth curve of improvement since the Wales game first up. I doubt the coaching set up will stay the same. Which is shame because it sounds like Ashton was brought in without a say on his supporting staff and so it was always going to be difficult. Plus the new agreement kicks in in July and that'll surely benefit whoever is coaching them in future. Cipriani had a great game. Looked assured, smart and incisive so a great prospect for the future. Balshaw was sht again!
What can you say about Wales?! Another great game! Well deserved GS. Have a good night cymru.0 -

Let's hope that the WRU lawyers had a hand in writing his contract then...:)
WooHoo!! another weekend of no training0 -
What a night! Very good of the boys to win the slam to help me celebrate my birthday. All I can say is that I certainly did my bit to keep the Cardiff brewing industry in business.
Y GAMP LAWN I GYMRU HEFYD!
Now, where did I put those aspirins..0 -
Well done to Wales, the best side in the Six Nations this year by far.
The only thing that blighted the France - Wales game yesterday was the sight of Charlotte Church's stupid face smiling when Henson got sent off for the high tackle. Stupid bitch.0 -
Glad the six nations is over so I can train, but now I have to come back next week for te Ospreys game and may even go to Wembley to watch Cardiff
I wonder what odds you could have got on Wales winning GS and CArdiff winning FA cup
Glad Italy won yesterday, they desreved a win and played well enough to win yesterday, they really need a No 10, would let mercatto have a go.
Ireland were poor yesterday which made it a bit easieror England who remained on top.
Cipriani played OK but as usual English pressgave him 9/10 and said he was fantastic, they really must watc different games than me.
Shoed his intillectuality in interview afterwards by swearing he really is not the brightes of blokes and makes Beckham seem like Einstein Stillhe is the best England have currently but needs some experience around him.
France were devoid of any ideas yesterday which amazed me, Ellisade looks promising but he is a pain in the arse just putting his foot on the ball and orderring people around, Wales just sat back and spread out to defend. France thrive on fast ball and it is much more difficult to defend against. Think it would have been far harder for Wles had YAscvili played from the start.
Nice for Shane to gt a try, boy is he quick off the mark, and good try by WIlliams.
I hope the forwards play with confidence against SA in the tour coming up.0 -
I like this summary from Tom Ford of the BBC:
"This match – and hence the Grand Slam – was won in the end by two things: a game-breaking moment of larceny by Williams and an Edwards-designed defence so brutally miserly that generations of French children will cry themselves to sleep just thinking about it."
My head hurt like hell all day today...0 -
Most enjoyable 6 NATIONS, nice to see Wales doing themselves some justice for a change.
My man of the tournament has to be Lee Byrne (difficult to choose one) as he has played well through all the matches, but particularly during that awful 1st half against England!
Most hyped player, Vainikolo, he didn't really happen, did he?0 -
I thought Cipriani did very well, oldwelshman. Obviously I'm English but for a 20 year old to boss the team, kick 7/7, get the backline going, and put in a couple of nice breaks and touches all on his debut is fairly impressive. I also hear that in the dressing room he was telling the forwards exactly what he wanted and telling certain players they had been 'lazy' in other matches. And watching him having a word with everyone as they came off the pitch at half time before following them off the pitch was impressive. Maybe its because he's so different to Wilko in his approach and personality but to bring so much confidence and talent on his debut was very encouraging. Remember how much the Welsh wet themselves about Hook? Well, I think we have our own talent in England now. I guess you could say there's a similarity there with him replacing the dependable Wilko and Hook replacing the more conservative Jones. And come on, he's not that thick, don't get too smug cus you got the GS!, don't forget Hook and Jones, to name two, are hardly Newton and Da Vinci.
I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes in future.
You're right about Vainikolo. Didn't really do much all tournament. There was a big discussion about him not even being the best winger at Gloucester as James Simpson-Daniel holds that position. Maybe he'll grow into the position as Sackey has done on the other side but I'd like to see others given a chance.
Interesting to see what happens next. Will Wales go on to be world beaters? Will England sort themselves out in time for their next competitive match? Will Ireland pull themselves out of the mire?0
