Nice, very nice......
Tidy looking SP1 in the background also......0 -
Mmm - I was just thinking that about the SP-1 - one of my favourite bikes of all time and stil fancy one now.
actually - maybe not the SP1 - but the SP2 in white with the full castrol sticker kit applied that came with the SP2's - just like Colin's in that epic SBK season of Edwards V Bayliss - remember that??
awesome sound with decent cans too..
oh and erm - nice track bike too...0 -
Always fancied an SP2 in the Edwards Stars and Stripes scheme.... lovely......0
-
ah yes the laguna seca paintjob - saw a VF800 in that scheme recently but it didn't suit the bike - the VTR does though!0

It's the Soloist Team isn't it? They only come in Silver (they used to come in black though.)0 -

wow - how small is that frame!!
also - not sure about the red tires with the brown frame
nice saddle & wheels though0 -
Can I ask who you got the Halo wheel from? I noted on their website that they don't deal direct and I'm still flirting with the idea of an 2008 Langster with the white Halo wheels.0

It's a 49cm, the frame geometry would have been a bit better if the top tube wasn't so sloping, the TT and headtube length are fine though.
Most bits have been ressurected - I only had red conti tyres I couldn't afford to buy any new tyres while the GP4000s are pretty newish. About £270 in total0 -

oh right - seems small all the same - aren't you about the same size as me? (5'8"ish, 31" inside leg) - I need a 54 in the langster (and roubaix) to get the top tube length
Whats the front wheel you put on it? - just one you had spare? - they look like a matching pair - very smart.0 -

When I was looking at bikes last Xmas before I got the Nero Corsa, the LBS had 07 Tarmacs at a good price I found that the 52 was the best size for me. I don't like the amount of seat post showing but I like the shorter top tube. Ideally I would have got the 52, but they didn't have any when I got around to getting one.gkerr4 wrote:Whats the front wheel you put on it? - just one you had spare? - they look like a matching pair - very smart.
It's a Shimano R500 with the Decals removed, it was what the LBS got for me after some driver destroyed my front wheel in a crash - I'd already bought myself a set of R500s so the wheel never got used.0 -
I see!
The front wheel matches well - they must be around the same rim depth - they look at first glance like a pair (with radial front and 3x rear that is..)0 -

My new summer bike. Has a more forgiving ride than my Tarmac had but still lightning quick

giant mancp wrote:Thanks for that. Love that colour scheme. Wonder how it rides compared to an R3 (which I've ridden) or an SL? Did you compare before you took the plunge mr-ed?[/i]
I haven't ridden an R3 or any of the carbon soloists. I've had a couple of people ask me about the bike and their comments have been that they've been told its really stiff and to get the carbon one. Yeah it is stiff (that's good IMO) but its not uncomfortable to race on or ride a 100 mile sportif. It's not that heavy (1200- 1300gs I'd guess) and the price makes it really attractive. If I was good enough to ride for CSC I'd have the carbon one and tell you how amazing it was but I'm not. So I saved a grand and put some nice wheels on it. I find it fits me and the riding I do perfectly and I'm 100% happy with it!0 -
My Giant SCR2 with its fancy new blue handlebar tape.
Mavic Aksiums maybe to follow. It depends on whether or not I can open my wallet far enough.

OK, here's mine...
All standard except for Toupe gel saddle.
And before anyone asks:
1) yes, the seatpost is quite extended - I'm 6'6" with a very long inside leg
2) yes, it is the right frame size - in fact it's the biggest they do and a special order at that
3) no, it's not uncomfortable to ride at all, I've already completed several 80 mile plus sportives, including the Ryedale Rumble, with no problems!

A new job with longer commute has inspired me to rebuild an old frame I had back into a complete bike, all I really needed was the wheels, chainring and an excuse for yet another bike .
Between the ages of 15 and 35 the majority of my mileage was on a fixed, a minor heart problem means that I can’t spin on long descents, but for the 10 mile each commute this will be perfect.
The frame is a 20 year old Pearson 531, built back then by Dave Yates. Orginally this was my tour bike and can be seen in the reports about some of them at the bottom of the page. Most of that bike I transfered accross to a Van Nicholas Yukon.
The wheels are new, Schmidt hub with BM IQ Fly on Mavic Open pro, built by me with DT Spokes, I will add a secondary LED during the winter
Carradice Super C Rack pack rear with Cateye AU100 and LD 610, I will add a Smart ½ Watt on the rear guard eye (the same as I have here on another bike) during winter as some of the commute is on a unlit road. Strictly speaking the AU100 should be the other way up, although I use it that way on another bike and at a distance it still shows brightly.
Low angle view View from a higher angle
TA Vega chain set, 170mm with 46t ring that I had to mount inside spider to get a good chain line, with a 20T sprocket this gives me a 62" ish gear, my commute is quite hilly! I had forgotten how much fun a fixed was, I confess I missed changing down a gear on long drags but hopefully that will become easier as my fitness improves.
The only change may be the old Campagnolo brake levers, as modern versions work better.

Thanks to a lot of saving and shopping around for good deals I have finally managed to build myself this. This is my 1st foray into the world of Campag and its taking me a while to get used to the ergos and the shifting (I keep trying to push the brake lever across to change up  )
It rides like a dream and now I have played about with my position it fits like a glove. I just want to invest in some Mavis Cosmis Carbone SL's for flat rides and keep the R1's for the hilly stuff.
