Urgh...French cars :?
My list to date...
'83 Metro 1.0 (£20!)
'82 Fiesta XR2
'90 Cavalier SRi
'92 Escort 1.4 (trash car as SRi was written off!)
'88 Nissan Sunny (free so sold the Escort!)
'99 Golf TDi
'02 Passat Est TDi0 -
Nout wrong with french cars!.... apart from the terrible wiring, poor build quality, terrible customer service, expensive parts etc etc etc
Newer ones aren't so bad though.0 -
Leon Cupra...nice car (try the 130bhp TDi, it's quicker than the GTi 0-60!)0

Don't suppose anyone has/does own a 335d or 335i BMW?
I want to get one of either in Touring form.
The diesel has monster torque (over 420 lbs/ft!) and 286bhp but it's still a diesel.
The 335i has 306 bhp and less torque but revs better and sounds nicer yet still does 30mpg.
Methinks a test drive is needed!0 -

335d is better by a huge margin. Modern BMW diesels are a world apart from anything else. I've driven both (need an estate now I have an heir) and the 335d is unreal. Probably more sensible to buy an old Forester and pay down the mortgage......:)0 -

Nope....their just as bad. Had an 02 plate Laguna from new. In the 3 years i had i did about 90k in it. In the first 18months i did 10500miles in courtesy cars. The damn thing was never out of the garage. 3 turbos, 2 intercoolers, new ignition card reader thingy , constant cutting out, among other bits and pieces. Garage network and customer service was appaling. It actually broke down after 3 miles of leaving the dealership when brand new. didnt see it again for 3 days. Never, never again2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
gutted!!
I bought my 406 for £600. It had 140,000 miles on the clock and in the 8 months I had it, it never skipped a beat!
Loved that car, was full leather, 6 cd changer, climate control! exterior was a bit tatty, but if i didn't have to pay a deposit on the house we're renting i'd still have it0 -
i thought mine was one of those friday afternoon cars, but we had 3 laggies on the fleet at the same time. they were all awful. We used to play laguna top trumps, and have a score for how monumental the brake down was or for which bits had fallen off
I only went for it cos it had integrated sat nav
On the upside, it was most comfortable car i've ever had. proper arm chairs for seats
i've since seen the light, with german efficiency. Vorsrung Durch Technik all the way2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
Astra Coupe Linea Rossa 2.2 8) Had it from new, although its getting a little old now and a Nurburgring veteran, i've kept it in near concourse condition. Heavily modified but with subtle bodywork. I was gonna change it for a Monaro VXR this year, but the moneys been spent on the house instead
This still gets good looks though!

From My First Post (First Page). Passat has gone and made room for a New Saab 95 Hot Aero. 260BHP, 0-60 in 6.5! TV/DVD, Sat Nav all the usual electrics etc.
Badside so far.... MPG :shock:0 -

You can't judge all french cars by the Laguna though. They are well renowned for being worse than almost any other car in that way.0 -
I hate Renault with a passion. Both my boss and brother in law had Lagunas, always busted. We had a Scenic and a Clio. Both have cost us thousands to keep on the road. Never had cars fail MOTs until I owned Renaults. Had both from new and had them serviced properly. All sorts of things went wrong from sheared drive shafts to airbags that went off by themseleves, left hand drive headlight in a right hand drive car fitted in the factory. Even the dealerships are rubbish, when the airbag was replaced and the seat repaired the dealership destroyed the circuit board in the dash, wrecked the ABS pump and blew all the headlights, how I have no idea. It also took them nine weeks to fix it. Got rid of the Scenic a couple of years ago when it stranded my wife on the motorway for the second time (it was only 4 years old). The Clio has also recently disgraced itself again, failed it's MOT at Christmas and more recently destroyed it's alternator, bits of metal from another pulley system that failed fell in and trashed it.
Got a Honda CRV which so far has been very reliable (although a little inefficient) and have just ordered a Volkswagen Touran to replace the Clio, got to wait ten weeks for it though, so much for the factories needing work, looked at a Honda and Toyota as well but they've stopped making the models we wanted for the foreseeable, talk about the motor industry shooting itself in the foot  .It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0 -
I've only been driving for just over a year now and have..........wait for it............a vauxhall corsa  . And it is in one word bobbins!! But it works and everone needs to start somewhere although i think i started 3 miles behind the start line
I really really want a civic type-r now though  . Maybe next year"If i was a slug i don't think i could handle it, i'd just throw myself in the salt pot" -Karl pilkington
Whyte 46, i fall off it alot!!0 -
Surf-Matt - Thanks. I would go for the 335d...alot of torgue in them BMW engines and the MPG is amazing for the BHP.
Rich9 - Cheers for the comment. They arent that small at all really. Parked next to a 3 series, and the length is the same. It depends if you want alot of rear passegner space. The coupe hasnt got much leg room at all. But its only me and the mrs really in the car. What car have you got now mate??0 -

It was the 5 door hatch i was looking at getting. With 2 kids its was a bit of a push in the back. I actually prefer smaller cars, but I have be sensible about it unfortunately. Got a new shape A4 SE. there's a picture of it somewhere in this thread2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
I have been in favour of the 335d over the 335i but I do like the revviness of a good petrol - plus the noise. I miss the sound of my Golf R32 still!
Am keeping my eyes open - a few bargains about (looking at nearly new) but they are hard to find.
Funny going from a performance petrol (260bhp 3.2 V6 Golf) to a semi performance diesel (150bhp 1.9CDTi Astra - the Golf kept getting targeted by thieves so had to sell it and get something invisible). At first I HATED the diesel but one I adapted to it's narrow power band and ignored the noise, I really started to enjoy it. The Astra had 235lbs/ft of torque (same as the R32) so although it's well down on power, it's still pretty quick and very rapid up hills.
I will own a V8 petrol one day though - every petrol head HAS to have one!0 -
I've got a 525d Msport. I love the BMW diesel engines, nicely tuned so the power delivery is more like you'd expect from a petrol engine but still with that nice hard shove when the turbo really gets going about 1900rpm...
...someone drove into it while it was parked last Thursday though, rear wheel arch is f***ed. Didn't even leave a note. Utter barstewards. :evil:0 -
...at least you weren't in it
Same happened with my old Cav SRi, & the police couldn't come to the incident as there were only 2 on call officers in the whole of Sussex that day!!! The guy could have been over the limit, on drugs or even worse have killed someone but the police couldn't attend so he just went home, and left my mangled wreck of a car to be towed to the breakers0 -
I drive a 55 vectra 2.2 not very fast but I can fit three full bikes in the boot with the seats down which is impressive unfortunatly there is only room for me and someone else so a little pointless fitting three in.0

As long as it's not snowing
Saw quite a few beemers struggling during that white week we had earlier in the year.
You are so right. I drive a lot for my job, and I drive off road so I like to think I can handle a bit of adverse weather. Trying to move the BMW off my road and into my driveway in case anyone lost it and hit it was laughable, I ended up stuck at 90 degrees to the road and had to get the better half to push!
So we dug the Disco out and went for a play...no issues there!

i'd love a Disco
Been toying with the idea of getting something like a landcruiser or hi-lux for under 1k, stripping the boot + rear seats and using it solely as bike transport0 -

yunno since that bloody prog, hi-lux prices have increased by loads!0 -
From what i hear , Toyota were dead chuffed with that programme aswell . I know for a while they wouldn't allow Clarkson to drive their cars because he said on air that it was crap (can't remember which car though) , Nissan wouldn't let him neither for a long good whileKona Scrap
