  • Not quite so fun or sporty, but I've got a Citroen Berlingo Van. The good parts are the mileage, and the fact it's a 2 litre TDi engine in an empty tin box, so it's quick!

Best bit is the bar I installed, running from side to side just below the roof in the back. Drop off the front wheel, hook the saddle over the bar, and stick a line from the headtube to the front of the cargo space. Can fit up to 5 bikes in the back, all locked securely inside, and only takes a few moments to load or unload them.

Problem is, it's a van!

  • Subaru Forester. Good bits: Its huge. Can fit 3 bikes in the boot, without the rear seats down. Its a 4x4. Its got armrests on the seats! I dont care if it gets dirty. Only cost 1K.
Bad bits. Damn is it ugly, fuel economy, something in the door vibrates when I turn up the stereo! Road tax is gonna cost a bomb this coming year!

    Golf GTi Anniversary 1.8T

Fits the bike in the back so it's great for that, but I can't travel any further than 12 miles to get to a ride as it would require filling up twice. Far too thirsty for my liking. So will most probably sell it for a (cringe) diesel in the next year or so.
  • I'm still learning :( failed last month, but my dad has an rs4, 420bhp(i think)

Just got a Toyota Auris 1.4 Diesel from work, reckon I'll get my bike in it, best it is it's got as much free fuel as I can use, free servicing et al :D

I made a checklist when i was looking to buy a car and this filled all of them.

40mpg or more - does 40 dead on with my daily commute and other bits n bobs
fit bikes in the back - can literally throw my bmx in the back, mtbs need to take front wheels off but still go in nicely
ins group 7 or less - this is a 6
    year 2000 or newer - this was a V reg (2000)
not a complete slug (avoid slow diesels) so 0-60 less than 12 - 10.8 i think?
less than 50,000 miles on the clock - 39,000
    less than £2000 - £1750

    been fine so far.
What I want at the moment though is a merc vito sport-x. yes please.
  • 2005 Astra Estate 1.9CDTi 150PS - fast, frugal, roomy.

late 2005 Jimny Soft top - for larking about in.

Did have a Golf R32 (3.2 V6) but I was forced to sell it thanks to tea leafing scum bags.

Honda CR-V, crap fuel economy, high tax, but can fit bikes in the back and hang them off the spare wheel.

    Downside is it's a 4 x 4 but the manual says don't take it off road :!: :!: :!: :!:

Bit like a Halfords Apollo then  but I like it.

Don't even mention the Clio, sack of f*****g French c**p, never had a car with so many bits fall off, snap, burn out or just generally fail. Airbag in the passenger seat went off by itself, blew the seat up. The Renault garage managed to blow the dashboard circuit board, wreck the abs pump and blow all the headlight bulbs (low and high beam) replacing it (took nine weeks to fix). Only found out the head lights were blown driving it away from the garage at night when loads of people kept flashing me, had to limp it back to garage using front fogs :!: :!: :!:
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
  • No car. No car at all.

But I do occasionally borrow my darling Wifey's Zafira.

  • had a mk3 mondeo, lowered, 18's and the lowdest zorst you ever head on a mondy.....got written off due to a sap on a moped....now got a transit connect van..good bits a lot better on fuel, better for work, more room for bikes, go over speed bumps without slowing down and bad bits not fast enough

Funny how, even on a bike forum, as soon as you mention cars the p1ss1ng contest starts.

Makes for lack of something in 'another department'.......
  • I used to be a bit of a car nut (best was a Golf R32) but now I see little point in it all.
Sure, I will always appreciate a good, quick car (tested for press before, cop and IAM trained, etc) but I think they are largely a waste of money.

We now have a diesel (albeit a pokey 150bhp one) Astra Estate (two bikes in the back easily), and a very very slow but very capable (off road) Suzuki Jimny - both do their "jobs" perfectly without shouting that perhaps I'm might be lacking in the trouser department - like most quick cars do.

I find far more fun in MTBing (another knob wavers sport when it comes to kit), surfing (luckily there's a ceiling to what you can spend on kit), running and blasting out in our little speed boat.

But I'll always be a car nerd and I rather enjoyed the Evo FQ360 I test drove the other day...

    i have a toyota carina 2.0 GTi.

cost me £500 a year ago and its just passed it's MOT hoorah!

Often times I fit me and a mate and our two bikes in there (with the back seats folded down).

I personally don't see the point in spending any more than that as I only use it to go for the big shopping and to get places with the bikes!

I haven't actually sat in the drivers seat for about 2 weeks now.

  • Impreza sport (classic) and I'll be damned if I can find a bike rack that fits it!
