Late news is that Rasmussen has been pulled out of the Tour by Rabobank. Crikey, looks like a Disco inferno at the top of the chart,pop-pickers! Wonder what story is due to break ?

I dont doubt your word but I'll wait until I see a story. If it's the case it kinda makes me look like a right idiot from my final post in the race day thread :S I really should have known better.

    Fair enough.

    Bad news.

What can I say... I'm almost scared to refresh this forum, for everytime I do theres another bad story.

Maybe though, just maybe if the tour can ride it out, it's been a terrible few years but somewhere down the line it'll all have been worth while. It has to go through this to make it better.

Henri Desgrange, the Tour's founder, once said that the ideal course was one that only one rider would finish. I don't think this was quite what he had in mind...

  • Just got told off by my wife. She thought from my exclamations that WW III had broken out.

This really is a meltdown. I'm actually strangely elated (it might be shock) because it feels as if the teams - under pressure from race organisers and sponsors - are purging themselves of bad blood (npi!). We shall see.

The riders really do deserve this. Hopefully it'll start forcing the clean riders into grassing up their fellow suspected riders. These clean guys jobs are on the line right now. Our sport is well and truely on the line and I'm not looking forward to having to defend it to everyone who doesnt really follow it tomorrow morning. All I can take positivly from it is that at least our sport is trying to clean itself out.
  • I'd like to know what Millar's thoughts are right now

Its on the website for L'Equipe who broke the story - well they would. Anyway, Contador is in yellow. Sorry, my French is not good enough to translate the front page.

  • It must be because of davide cassanis comments of his whereabouts. Even if he hasn't doped he apears to be lying, so I guess its the equivalent of bringing the sport into disrepute.

Short odds on Contador refusing to wear the MJ tomorrow. BTW, was it just me that noticed Rasmussen seemed to have a thick lip when he was giving his winners interview today? Maybe Millar nutted him.

The Cycling News article implied quite strongly that he'd been caught lying, so not too sorry to see him go & far better now than a Landis-like case that drags no & on.
I said to a friend on Saturday that Astana & Rasmussen might have had something different on their cornflakes to other riders: I sometimes hate being right...

    rough translation (I'm not fluent):

The yellow jersey, Rasmussen, will not be at the start of stage 17 in Pau on Thursday. His team, Rabobank, asked him to quit the race after discovering that the Dane had lied about how he spent his time. "He has broken the team's rules. It's not certain that the team will finish the race" said a team spokesman on Wednesday night.

And I so much wanted to beleive that Rasmusen's clean, not that I'm saying he isn't, after all he has tested negative 14 times and all he's done is miss some random tests.

He was stung by a bee apparently on one of the descents. Rabo have been hesitant about renewing his contract so guess he'll be lookng for another employer, if there are any left!

"he deliberately lied to avoid out-of-competition controls"

"He broke the rules of the team & is no longer in the team following the race"

Sorry, my French isn't that good, but Rabobank aren't mincing their words...

from lequipe below I posted this earlier in pro section.
The way this is going I will be promoted from 325 in the Gran Fondo Pinarello to yello jersey in TDF!!

Yellow jersey Michael Rasmussen will reportedly not be at the start of the Tour de France's 17th stage Thursday morning according to L'Equipe. He was withdrawn from the race by his Rabobank team for reasons which were not specified. Rasmussen won Wednesday's Stage 16 finishing at Col dʼAubisque.

The news comes just hours after the news that Cofidis' Cristian Moreni tested positive for testosterone, leading to that team's withdrawal from the race.

It is not clear yet if it is related to the comments made by Davide Cassani, the commentator for Italian TV channel RAI, to Danish news source DR. Cassani claimed that he had seen Rasmussen in the Dolomites on June 13 or 14. The Dane has claimed he spent June 4 through 26 in Mexico for training.

No reason for Rabobank not to continue on. They deserve credit for this one.

Just waiting to hear tomorrows media get the story all wrong.

Also short odds on Contador and Evans on Betfair. The guys on that website are far too quick - I was hoping to make a killing.
