Can I order hand built wheels over the phone and then you send them to me.

I would like a set of Campagnolo Pista hubs with Open Pro Rims, and some kind of appropriate spoke (CX Ray?).

Its just Getting to your shop would be an a bit of a problem.

Pb21, yes this can be done, but you would have to contact the shop directly. Ask for James or Greg regarding wheels.

Similar question as to the above....do you do mail order for complete bikes. Your excellent catalogue arrived the other day and I have some moeny to burn...but I live in Leeds and with a wife and two small childten to keep amused the chance of heading down to the smoke looks a distant one.

    Hello Bern,

A while back l asked you re: Fratello build under the bike-to-work scheme which my employers are still dragging their feet over. I want to ask about the Fratello's ability to pull a trailer, particularly the one-wheeled Bob Yak type. Advice?

    Bern. Posts: 58
Deadpet, yes normally no problem, but you would have to do this through the shop, info@condorcycles.com or pete@condorcycles.com or 020 7269 6820.

Tako, the Fratello is not specifically designed to pull a trailer. To be honest we do not stock them so it would be difficult to say. It would depend on how the trailer attachments work.

    Bern,
Just following on from my question rgds similar priced carbon and ally framesets - Is there somewhere I can get comparative weight information for the Squadra/Baracchi?
Who should I talk to about wheelbuilding?

    JWS,

The Baracchi is 1150g and the Squadra is 1300g. That is mid sized frame after painting. Beware, some manufacturers state weights for a tubeset or the smallest size frame without any paint which can make them look 2-300g lighter.

Best people in the shop to discuss wheelbuilding would be Pete, Greg, Ronan or James.

  • Bern, whats the approximate weight of the Fratello frameset ? Do you think it could handle fast winter training / chaingangs etc ?

Colin - I picked up my Veloce Frat. in January - They're absolutely superb - certainly fast enough for me.
If you can get down the shop there's normally one available for a test ride (with pre-arrangement and a c/c for security).
    I ran 25C GP4000s throughout the winter.
There's a nice strip of cobbles round the back of the shop, and the contrast between the Frat. and the stiffer Ally. Agio (which will take guards with 23Cs) is worth trying. I find the ride pliant yet quick without being overly twitchy.

(I've been impressed enough to now be scraping the pennies together for a second "summer bike")

Yes, complete can vary a lot due to size and kit, but I have seen them as little as 17lb up to 28lb.

    Any time, Bern!
Great products, great fitting, great service.... I was mightily impressed when my rear wheel was completely swapped FOC without any suggestion or expectation to that effect from me, on the first service back in Feb.
It's great to know the backup is there when required.

Called Ronan today - Will probably be spec'ing a Squadra up with him shortly, for the summer.... Obviously depends on the amount of ear bending I get from "she who drives the broom wagon". [;)]... Perhaps I'd better fix her tri-bike puncture before she gets back!

  • Bern,

I don't have time reading thro the whole thread, but what frame material is the Tempo. the brochure ssays as the fratello (but i don't see anything under the fratello).
I may have the opportunity to buy under the cycle to work scheme, any issues with this.
  • Rendo,

Not wanting to steal Bern's thunder, but I've recently bought a bike through the cycle to work scheme from Condor and it was a very good experience, with no hassle whatsoever.

    andyp, no problem.

rendo, the Fratello is made from Dedacciai SAT 14.5 heat treated cro-mo steel with Vanadium and Manganese which makes for a responsive, but comfortable ride.

    HI Bern,

I sit here clutching a cycle2work voucher form halfords for œ1100 (incl 10% free). I've emailed the shop and got the low down on using the full value of the voucher etc so know the score on that front. I would like to visit this saturday for fitting and handover the voucher/cash, make order etc. Looking at either Agio or Italia, struggling to decide but hoping a visit will sort that out fairly quickly.

Should I ring and pre-arrange? I expect to be there for opening.

What is current approx lead time on both these bikes? (size 52).

    Many thanks

    mortuk2k,

At the moment it would be best to call and pre-arrange as it is really hectic. Best to talk to Pete to arrange a time. If he is not available on the phone ask for Greg or Rich to organise.

Current lead time has shot up to 'up to' 5 weeks. We had been keeping it under 3 weeks, but the recent good weather has made a big impact. Also mechanic illness has slowed things down. We are now back at full speed so we will work to reduce this, but if you are having something custom fitted it is worth the wait.

ok I'll ring up and check.

No problems re lead time, I read earlier in the thread that it was hectic and inparticular the fratello was in high demand which was on my short list. But if you had said Agio was quicker than Italia it may have helped my decision for example [:D] But no probs, I know it's worth it and I'm a patient man.

    Many thanks for speedy reply.

Oooh yes, my friend - waah ha ha haa: [}:)]
Took the Fratello a little further East on Monday - Did Box Hill, Leith Hill, Holmbury etc.... 3 hours and a hot set of rims later - big grin.
Am actually liking it so much, am going back for a Squadra some time soon.

P.S: Wifey thinks the broom wagon's nice and shiny - she a bit cross about her Tri bike [;)]
  • Bern,

That straight carbon fork - as found on the pista and other singlespeeds - do you sell separately? Whats the price if so?

Bern, popped in yesterday with my cycle2work voucher and got specced up for my Tempo by the nice Geordie chap (sorry I didn't catch his name) having previously been sold on the idea by James. Excellent service and looking forward to getting it (the slightly longer wait means I'll have time to sort out my excess bikes at home). Just one minor suggestion - perhaps it might be good to have a display of pedal options downstairs so that people can spec them at the same time as everything else.

Wonko, yes, I believe 80 to 90, but please double check with shop for 100% accurate price. I am working in Italy today and do not have all prices to hand.

Lequape, good suggestion. We are currently looking at this process with a new jig , etc. We now just need to find another floor to display everything.

  • Hi Bern

About 3 - 4 weeks ago you guys fitted a shiney new chorus compact to my bike and swapped my pedals over etc. This week I went back in to buy a Condor bike bag as I fly out very early on Sat April 28 to spend a week in the Pyrenees.

I got home and proceeded to pull my bike to pieces to make sure I could get it all in there (didn't want to find out last minute I had a problem). Good thing I did, because for the life of me I can't get the pedals off!!! They're Time RXS and they are on so incredibly tight that they won't budge!

I called one of your mechanics yesterday (spoke to the Kiwi one - really good bloke and very helpful) and he talked me through it as best he could. When I got home from work last night I had another crack - no dice though.

The mechanic offered to do it for me if I bring it into the shop which is what I'd like to do. What I'd like to know though, is how late in the week can I bring it in to know that if there is a bigger problem, it can be sorted out in time for me to fly out on the morning of the 28th with no problem? I'd like to ride next week prior to flying out so Wednesday would be good for me.

Ideally I'd like to be able to bring it in say tomorrow and have them taken off and then put on again and tightened to a level that enables men who don't have access to Superman's Kryptonite to get them off so I can undo them myself later in the week!

    What are your thoughts?
