England all out in 55 overs but scoring at over 5 an over. England may throw some games away that they could/should have won but it's great entertainment.

That was definitely not what I was expecting to see when I woke up - went to bed after the Bethell wicket (43-4), and I was expecting to see we'd been rolled over for 100 or something. I was just thinking it was starting to look a bit easier to bat when Bethell got out as well :D

Pope's making a pretty good case against his return to #3... I actually think Bethell looks alright there, certainly steadier than Pope.

I actually think they had a point this time - the ball was moving around, there was one with your name on it.

    England got 280 in 54.4 (5.12/over), NZ got to 86-5 in 26 (3.31/over) - that's a 47 run difference over 26 overs.

Cook just saying on the highlights that he would have tried to soak that up - leave and defend - but that's more like what NZ tried to do and it's not really worked for them. Cook also saying they should go straight to short ball against Brook - he tends to go leg side to give himself room (essentially turning straight balls into wider balls), which means he is more likely to top edge short balls (and thats been the best way of getting him out).

Scoring 300 plus in a day of test cricket used to be seen as pretty positive stuff. England have almost 660 over the first two days...and have bowled NZ out once!

Scoring 115 from a total of 259 all out when coming in at number 6 is pretty impressive especially when only two of those below you score double figures.

Hopefully the Women's Ashes isn't a precursor to next winter, but I expect it will be...

Hopefully not, The Aussies have just been so consistently good, whereas England have only had flashes.

Side effect of the Eurosport debacle is Virgin are currently paying me 1p a month to have access to the cricket on tnt.

India probably not going to be too worried about chasing 249 after a good start for England.

    India 30 for 2 . . . WinViz has it as a 50/50 game . . . at the moment.

Apart from that 1 T20 win, it was pretty bleak watching really - we really are crap at ODIs at the moment...

Decent knock from England there, and if anyone was wondering the same as me, the stadium IS named after Colonel Gaddafi.

Crap bowling. Knew they would be in trouble with only 4 proper bowlers, you know you're struggling when you've got to get 10 overs out of Root and Livingstone. I thought they might have a chance with such a good total (and it was nice to see them bat properly for a change, for sure), but when you look at the bowling economy they could definitely have used a second proper spinner...

And speak of the devil, Carse has been ruled out and they've decided to replace him with Rehan Ahmed rather than another pacer.

Rained off game today means it's all still in England's hands as long as the games get played. Not particularly confident in either game though to be honest.

I suspect that England are going to lose this game - Archer's just been taken down for 20 runs and they're 262/5 off 44.2 - I don't trust England to chase it down.

I presume it must be a decent batting deck, as Rashid hasn't been as threatening as usual (which is good as Afghanistan have good spinners).

I went to see England Afghanistan in the 2019 WC at Old Trafford, and England absolutely hammered them - Morgan hit stacks of sixes and we got nearly 400. I think this is going to be slightly different...

First 100 for Afghanistan came in 146 balls. Next 200 came in 137 balls.

Somehow we have an ODI team which is both a bowler short and has too shallow a batting lineup...

It's because Livingstone is a waste of space. When was the last time he got a total.

Unless something changes in the India-Australia game, this whole competition seems a bit of a foregone conclusion - I said before the start that England would not win a single game and India would walk it. Never thought I could root for Australia :p

Not helped by the fact the tournament is stacked in India's favour again - not that I think they need the help to be favourites anyway - because they refuse to travel to Pakistan, they have effectively a home pitch in Dubai where they will play all their games, whereas everyone else is travelling here there and everywhere. SA flew out to Dubai and then flew straight back to Pakistan again without playing, in case they got the India semi...

Someone literally asked in the press conference if India had been smart picking 4 frontline spinners when nobody else did - nobody else had that luxury because they had to pick a squad for 4 different venues.
