Maybe they should change their focus. Not every team has to try and win the Tour - for years Quickstep were largely a classics team, EF come across as an underdog team that race aggressively and try and punch above their weight in results but also in visibility.
If Ineos want to compete to win grand tours on a regular basis they are going to have to find a rider that can challenge the likes of Tadej, Jonas, Roglic and Remco. But could they step back and be something else? Could they try and be a largely British team or a classics team or another EF style team with more of a swashbuckling type image ? These things could be done on a smaller budget and provide relative success - surely more enjoyable than their current relative failure.

Yep I alluded to this a few pages back, they are clearly not winning any GT in the foreseeable future, so why not change the targets, and try and recruit accordingly. Nharvaez would have been a great rider for a classics team though eh, as IS Pidcock!

I think they need to get things right and be able to show a general improvement to any potential superstars of the future. Otherwise they'll never recruit one, assuming they want to

For me that is their biggest problem currently, seemingly very few riders want to end up there, very sad situation.
Hearing Bigham, Hayter, Pidcock say what they have to say will only strengthen that perception, and that's not to mention all of the other relatively big names who have moved on in recent years.
I'm not really sure how they overcome that view point, if it is as I perceive it to be of course.

I think they need to rebuild the team spirit and perhaps a bit of trust as well. Make the long, medium and short term goals clear. Ensure everyone knows their role and not have riders dictating what they’re doing.
Get back to winning. A stage, a one day race, a stage race. Anything, just generate that winning feeling again within the team. Success breeds success.

KAA has said they're going to focus more on stages and one day racing. I guess that's why they want to teach their riders how to sprint. They'll still have to beat pogacar, Evenepoel and van der poel so hardly a guarantee off success in one day stuff.

Luke Rowe is interviewed and it sounds very much like he wanted to stay as a DS. Worth a watch.

That was a really good article. I rarely watch any GCN content as it's mainly silly and repetitive. A lot of it echoed what has been said on here. I think Luke nailed it when he said (to paraphrase) in the short-term they need to work with the riders they have and build around them to get the wins. There's no point in having your focus on the GTs when your best GT riders are so far from the top of the tree so work with the likes of Tarling (or Pidcock if he stays) to pick up Classics wins. It's a real shame for the team that Luke has decided to go elsewhere but his reasoning for that made perfect sense. I think he could really have helped get them going in the right direction again but would need a high level of autonomy to do so. You also have to give the team management credit for looking after their riders that have had bad crashes, they could have walked away and used the money saved to bring in other riders.

I think it'll be good for Rowe getting experience somewhere else. Someone who's been there for their whole career probably isn't going to bring anything new.

Daniel Benson reporting that Xabier Artetxe, previously head coach, has left Ineos Grenadiers. He's been coaching Carlos Rodriguez and Egan Bernal for the past few years.

So Head Mechanic and Head Coach both leaving?
Interesting that Artetxe is off. There was talk a few years ago that there were divisions in the team between the Spanish riders/staff and the rest. The Spanish contingent were supposedly wanting everything done their way and for their benefit.

I'm on a US based MTB forum, and as far as most of them are concerned all the Ineos issues are down to Pidcock - even after somebody posted the GCN video.

Interview with Brian Smith, not saying I put much credence in it (Though I believe he is buds with SC at least), just sharing it for those who may not see it.

In the lengthy post, Eurosport commentator Smith claimed that the 2016 Tour of Britain winner was “gagged” during his time as DS at the squad and that Pidcock was dropped from Il Lombardia over fears Ineos would have to pay him a performance bonus following a good result.
“No real surprise to see Steve Cummings leave Team Ineos,” Smith, who worked with Cummings when the Scot was general manager of MTN-Qhubeka (which has now morphed into Q36.5) during the mid-2010s, wrote.
“Must be hard to do your job when gagged for most of the year. One of their biggest assets with be a major boost for any other team.”
Turning to the Pidcock saga, Smith said: “Team Circus continues, after allowing your marquee rider to leave the team while willing to pay 20 per cent of his salary then doing a U-turn to keep him. Not sure this is over.
“Ivan Glasenberg has invested in Q36.5 and owns Pinarello. A match for Pidcock who was keen on the move.
“These decisions were helped by Team Circus pulling Pidcock from Lombardia. Why you may ask? Had the form, thought he could win but did not want to risk paying the high bonus.
“Talking about bonuses. This thwarted the signing of Castrillo from Kern Pharma,” he added, referencing double Vuelta winner Pablo Castrillo’s move to Movistar this winter, after reports he was set to sign a deal with Ineos before his breakthrough ride in Spain.

I'm reading more and more about INEOS working with Lotto Kern-Haus PSD Bank as a quasi development team.
Probably just multiple repetitions of a single source at a fairly low point of the cycling news cycle though.

In keeping with INEOS' current reputation for successfully developing new talent, they currently have 5 riders contracted for 2025.
Maybe Wurf will get a ride after all: Premier League teams are currently hiring has beens to mentor their junior teams on the pitch.
