This whole thread is gold.

That was a good game, they seem to be low scoring so far.

Reckon Woakes knew his foot was still down there.

Only just put it on - they look absolutely shattered.

It is ridiculously hot

Two sitters put down, then Duckett knackered his thumb in taking the last wicket. Not ideal.

556 is one hell of a chase!

Pope gone already... Stunning catch to be fair.
4-1 and our opener injured, chasing 556... By rights this game should be a draw, I think, but I doubt England will play like that.
Although as Zatlz pointed out:

. . . are you a betting man?

Well Pakistan do have an awful record recently... But on the other hand "two out of three ain't bad". Two tests is probably not a statistically significant sample size...

Is it too early to be talking about Sir Joseph Root?
What a player when not ****ing around with Bazball. (And still quite good even then!)

Movement straight away with the new ball - if they can safely get through the next few overs they'll expect to build a tidy lead.

I mean Brooks not played badly either.
Yeah nice batting today, I guess if they can try and build a lead of what, 200(?) by tea tomorrow, then bowl Pakistan out within 3 sessions and have a small target to chase in the final session. I assume thats what they'll be thinking anyway - they won't be looking for a draw

Harry needs another decade or so before we can consider Sir Harold!

Every Pakistan player shakes Root's hand as he leaves the field. Beautiful stuff.

It's going to be at least a minute until another English player scores more than that.

Smith out for 31 off 24... lead by 223... when's tea?
Hardest time to bat seems to be that 3rd session.

This innings from Brook now 5th highest ever score for England.

You wait 85 overs for a wicket then they all come at once:

Typical England collapse.

Decent start to the innings for England.

Brook hit his 317 off 322 balls, absolute Geoffrey Boycott plodder!
Just had a look at his stats, 19 tests, 1900 runs at 62.5 avg with a top score of 317. Still a long way to go but let's hope he turns into the natural successor to JR long term.

Chris WOakes is crap overseas eh?
Wow
(I am in a call with my video on, with this on a second screen... I think I might have given something away there...)

Getting them out there quickly while they are knackered looks like a pretty good move....

Some stats from the England innings:
The numbers are truly extraordinary.
- Harry Brook became England's first triple centurion in 34 years, making their fifth-highest score
- Brook and Joe Root shared the highest partnership in England's Test history
- England's total of 823-7 is the fourth-highest in Tests
- It is England's highest score since the second world war
- Six bowlers conceded more than 100 runs for only the second time in Tests
- It was only the third time two players have scored more than 250 in Tests

This is great this is.
This feels a bit low... And was just before 3rd wicket fell anyway

4 now. Wowow.

This is incredible !

"556, we've got them on the ropes here - let's get them out with a healthy 1st innings lead"

Of the 3 higher scoring innings 2 were in endless tests. Only that Sri Lanka 952/6 was in a 5 day match and they scored at nearly 2 runs an over less (3.51 v 5.48). Unsurprisingly that one ended in a draw (as did the supossedly endless match against West Indies that has the third highest score after 9 days).
