Seemingly trivial things that cheer you up

As Musk might say, "Interesting". Thanks. Does sound promising. Just hope it's better than Facebook's translation engine, whose development was the subject of grand claims from Facebook, and has turned out to be one of the worst. Comically so.

You’ll notice it for sure next month.

Luckily we bought our house in '96, had an inheritance in 2003 and set up an offset mortgage in 2004. Basically paying back interest free with a small monthly outgoing.
Need to put funds into a couple of ISAs now.
Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

The difference felt between depleting and accruing is very pleasant, however small. 😎

Watching the many Sicilians pedal through on their Sunday morning rides, and not a moment of training being done. Sprints to the signs apparently unknown of.

It is lovely and quiet on the forum today.

Sundays usually are. This site is generally busiest during business hours. 🤷♂️

Perhaps some people cycle as a hobby or something like that. It is raining here, so I am planning a soggy paddle this evening at dusk. Will be nice to share the time with the geese on the river. Which will cheer me up.

Just as long as those mythical people from Haitia haven't rounded them all up for an evening roast in honour of JD Vance.
I'm going to see if the rain buggers off later for a little seaside trundle, but after a stupidly long day of music yesterday, it's quite nice having the perfect excuse to stay in and listen to France Musique while drinking coffee and eating toast.

Haha, I put up a post on my French FB Page about the concert I did last night, and already 21 middle-aged French female fans have commented wishing me a bon dimanche, even without a single flash of lycra or les tan-lines anglaises.

They liked your trumpet I suppose.

Putting the arts back into the curriculum (as well as other stuff). The right noises, now I'll be watching if they turn that into meaningful action. I think that both Lisa Nandy and Chris Bryant want to make things happen.

Being on holiday in Sicily and the wife stating that her favourite meal is the one I cooked. 😎
For anyone interested - Rigatoni all'Amatriciana from the Stanley Tucci series. Quick, easy and very tasty.

How did you get there? We struggled to find flights a couple of years ago, albeit about 6 weeks later in the year.
Are you able to ride, or was no hall pass available?

We flew to Catania. Plenty of options although things are starting to wind down (even if it is still too bloody hot for us) so timing may have been your issue.
No cycling pass this time as I used up all my points going for a cycling trip to the Picos in June. Worth it. 😉

Maybe stop taking to the Palermo branch of McDonalds?

Yeah, whatevs. Last restaurant had Maybachs parked outside. It was okay. We have come to the conclusion that Sicilian cooking is overrated.

Only been to Italy once, to see Pompeii and wotnot. Also felt the food was a tad over rated. In Pompeii in particular it was over cooked.

BBC cricket commentator's "crash wang bollocks" word salad of crash bang wallop made me chuckle.

OH keeps telling me she prefers my curries to restaurant ones, I am suspecting being manipulated to stay in the kitchen....

Are you interviewing for the currently vacant role of forum contrarian? If so you'll need to post a graph showing how the quality of Sicilian food is lower than that of the rest of Europe (ideally from the FT and with no explanation or logical axes).

He can keep that role immemorial, although being contrary appears to be my default position.
There are upsides though. That said busy kiosks give far better coffee than fancy cafes. We all knew that, I’m just getting verification 😉

We've stayed in that area a couple of times and enjoyed the local food, especially finding the less touristy restaurants.

Can confirm one of our best ever Italian meals was in a Pompeii backstreet restaurant where there was only locals and they spoke zero English. Ordering was a challenge but we got by. 😎

Ditto in La Spezia on a Sunday. Utterly stunning tagliata.

Myself and the good lady went there pretty much as soon as we could fly again following Covid - I really enjoyed Sicily and was struck with how inexpensive eating out was . . . I don't know whether its still the case or whether it was due in some way to the effects of Covid but it seemed crazily cheap for the quality that we were buying

It is relatively cheap and while the seafood is decent, it’s not sensational. Pizza is average, pasta disappointing, and meat pretty much nonexistent. Biggest gripe is the menu is exactly the same at every restaurant.

Is the absence of meat a bad thing? Sort of suggests you can eat what is locally available.
