Luckily we bought our house in '96, had an inheritance in 2003 and set up an offset mortgage in 2004. Basically paying back interest free with a small monthly outgoing.
Need to put funds into a couple of ISAs now.

Perhaps some people cycle as a hobby or something like that. It is raining here, so I am planning a soggy paddle this evening at dusk. Will be nice to share the time with the geese on the river. Which will cheer me up.

I'm going to see if the rain buggers off later for a little seaside trundle, but after a stupidly long day of music yesterday, it's quite nice having the perfect excuse to stay in and listen to France Musique while drinking coffee and eating toast.

Putting the arts back into the curriculum (as well as other stuff). The right noises, now I'll be watching if they turn that into meaningful action. I think that both Lisa Nandy and Chris Bryant want to make things happen.

We flew to Catania. Plenty of options although things are starting to wind down (even if it is still too bloody hot for us) so timing may have been your issue.
No cycling pass this time as I used up all my points going for a cycling trip to the Picos in June. Worth it. 😉

Yeah, whatevs. Last restaurant had Maybachs parked outside. It was okay. We have come to the conclusion that Sicilian cooking is overrated.

Only been to Italy once, to see Pompeii and wotnot. Also felt the food was a tad over rated. In Pompeii in particular it was over cooked.

Are you interviewing for the currently vacant role of forum contrarian? If so you'll need to post a graph showing how the quality of Sicilian food is lower than that of the rest of Europe (ideally from the FT and with no explanation or logical axes).

There are upsides though. That said busy kiosks give far better coffee than fancy cafes. We all knew that, I’m just getting verification 😉

We've stayed in that area a couple of times and enjoyed the local food, especially finding the less touristy restaurants.

Can confirm one of our best ever Italian meals was in a Pompeii backstreet restaurant where there was only locals and they spoke zero English. Ordering was a challenge but we got by. 😎

Myself and the good lady went there pretty much as soon as we could fly again following Covid - I really enjoyed Sicily and was struck with how inexpensive eating out was . . . I don't know whether its still the case or whether it was due in some way to the effects of Covid but it seemed crazily cheap for the quality that we were buying

It is relatively cheap and while the seafood is decent, it’s not sensational. Pizza is average, pasta disappointing, and meat pretty much nonexistent. Biggest gripe is the menu is exactly the same at every restaurant.
