Cav putting in a final effort to take the win....

He’s pulled back 29” but I don’t think it will be enough with a descent to the finish although he is showing some guile by sitting as upright as possible to take a drink

He's smashed it. Absolutely soft pedalled it like he'd bought it and had no insurance yet

He’s done it, some judicious waving to the crowd and sitting up celebrating the win for the final 50m allows him to gain an impressive 1’ 15” extra from the start of the descent.

Composing my thoughts, but if you want to know what it's like to see Cavendish finally win the big one after so many years of trying, here's Phil Liggett...

Got this from Twitter, so no idea if it's correct:

First Lanterne Rouge stage winner since Mathieu Hermans in 1989!

I'm just gobsmacked at the foresight Cav showed. Without that time penalty he'd of lost.

Disappointed Merckx wasn't there with Cav's memento.

I know all eyes are deservedly on Cav here with this magnificent achievement, but spare a moment to congratulate Dylan Groaningwaggon on today's stage win!

Was it a black jersey they presented him with? Feels like a bit of a fix if they already had that ready for him

Were Astana also winners of the team competition with at least 3 of the first 4?

Hiding in the bushes and popping up a fortnight later to claim the last post is very spirit of the Lanterne @mididoctors

    And yet...

I'm on holiday with no access to TV etc, and very little mobile internet either (civilisation having not reached Hampshire, it seems) - can somebody else please give the femmes the love they deserve?

Ah, the old Hampshire Broadband as it's known in the No More Jockeys world

I'm sure we'll manage something communaly, though I'm equally sure none of us are mug enough to take it on alone. 😅
