Another one of Southgate's considerable acheivments is that I don't hear or feel the "over paid prima dona" thing any more. Maybe it's just me

Listening to Rick the past few pages has convinced me now it was a penalty.

Personally I am referring mainly to Cristiano Ronaldo 😉

Spain and the Messi blessed kid, that's going to be though. It should be an epic final.

Which is precisely why I would have been pissed off if it had been awarded against England but this is what VAR does . . . like it or not.

Oh! fill your boots there mate!!

Don't feel too bad, the ref didn't see it either and needed some help.

I did, because it was clearly dangerous play. It's always dangerous play. Raise your studs and the argument is only about the colour of the card.
I've seen strikers sent off for similar attempts to block clearances from defenders.

Not sure the crowd not spotting a potential offence is relevant. Take track cycling, for example. Things happen at 70kmh, but the commies view things frame-by-frame to check for infractions. Take for example the women's Team Sprint in 2012 when Queen Vic and Jess were DQd. I don't think anyone was aware anything was amiss until there was a delay confirming the result and the cameras panned in on the commies peering at a TV screen. (Unlike QV's first sprint in the final against Anna where she blatantly came off her line.)
VAR is just a part of the game now. And it the VAR officials think something is a foul with the benefit of slowmos, freeze frames and multi camera angles, then basically that's it.

Point of order m'lud. Dumfries wasn't blocking a shot, he was going for the ball and was beaten to it.
If this was outside of the box, and player 1 ends up stamping on player 2s foot because he's beaten to the ball, player 2 goes down and it's a foul and a booking for a late challenge.
I personally think there is an argument that a lot of those fouls are over such a tiny difference in time it is unfair to the player who happened to arrive too late, because neither of them knew how it would end up when they went into the challenge.
But those *are* fouls, normally.

I can understand what happened, the Ref sees a fifty/fifty going for the ball so he has to settle the situation another way, he looks at what the Country has achieved. England invented the game, the jet engine, the universal language used on earth, the list goes on... Holland, Clogs n fancy tulips.
Penalty!

Feels like a phone vote is the natural next step.

Anyway. I've said what I think about the pen that shouldn't have been.
First ever English final not in England.
It is quite remarkable it's England scoring a last minute winner to get into the final. England!
It's amazing. Amazing stuff.

England has come from behind in three knockout matches in a row. First time ever. Mind you, the field of "England winning three knockout matches in a row" is hardly crowded!

(OK one more thing. VAR should only come in if it's a clear and obvious error and I think we can all agree, BB aside, that it was neither clear nor obvious)

I don't know that this helps you in this instance, because based on some of the angles, Dumfries is stamping at the ball, albeit in the air. His intention doesn't matter if it's reckless. Same principle applies to rugby tackes as far as I can tell.
My first instinct is it was ridiculous, my second thought was if they give that as a penalty and booking, we may as well start each game at 1-1 or 2-2, with 10 men a side. But actually it was a bit of a desperate lunge, it was studs forward, and we are well past the point where getting a nick on the ball absolves players of dangerous challenges anyway. It's also quite possible it put Kane off when trying the shot.
So, not all that clear cut.

100% I thought it was a pen - I can see both sides but as far as I can be impartial I would have given it.

If it was a penalty and the ref didn't give it, then how much more clear and obvious do you need?
0 -
It was. Think of it as revenge for what Koeman did in 1993 and it becomes all the more satisfying 🙂

I just hope with the Starmer turn in direct we're going to get some support from the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland Cakey contingent.

So, an ever optimistic England fan here and one with huge bias:
Notwithstanding the form shown in the tournament so far(!), I can't help but think that there are only a couple of Spanish players that I would swap for England players (Rodri and the goalie) if I were to pick the "best team" out of the two of them (i.e. "English Player" at his best vs "Spanish Player" at his best) . . .
If all players were playing their best football, who would make the combined XI?
Thoughts ?

Has anyone mentioned Kane is a goal away from winning the golden boot 😃

That's it. The Spanish aren't singing their anthem, gonna get stuffed. No pride.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0
