  • I actually dont know- it surprised me when I was told it by the producer of a successful podcast. Changed my behaviour on the ads. I am talking about the ‘random ads’ not the TCP ones about MAAP etc

It's purely personal of course, but I used to enjoy Lionel and Richard together and Richard's departure left a big hole in my listening. Daniel just grates on me for some unknown reason. Will be interesting to see how it evolves for the GTs when Daniel is otherwise employed.

I think Daniel can scrape together something presentable for the Giro and Vuelta with a selection of randoms and press room buddies he stumbles across in the car park but the Tour is going to be a stretch for them.

Sad to say the Escape Collective is now my go to for podcasts. Still listen to TCP but it’s lost a bit of its appeal over the last year or so.

I've got to say I'm enjoying the podcast during the Tour

The stage on the Galibier in particular was brilliant

The only slight drawback is you can tell they don't have the access and contacts to get rider interviews, but it seems Daniel is recording for ITV and TCP simultaneously

Strange, I’ve heard several rider interviews in the pods of this TDF.

Have to say the current crew for the TdF are a sig better listen than just Friebe droning on plus whoever else features. I had started to FF through quite a lot. Richard Moore, RIP, kept a tighter regime so I remember the podcast being a much better listen than post his time.

Maybe the current crew carry on?

Gave it a go last week. Found it curiously disjointed, unfocussed, and not actually much fun to listen to. Last year, or possibly the one before that, I found it an essential listen during the Tour.

I'm not a huge podcast listener though, so make of that what you will.

I was a bit sceptical at first though they have grown on me. And I've enjoyed listening to them. Richard Abraham is settling in nicely while Mitch being all that enthusiasm. Still getting used to Graham, he's newest on the Podcast and I don't think listened to it regularly before taking on the hosting. He does a decent job at keeping them all on track despite a couple of jarring phrases ("let's double click on this topic").

Despite the shorter episodes, I miss Daniel! I was listening to some of the Giro episodes for Friends of the Podcast just before the Tour and I really appreciate his insight and eye/ear for a story. Looking forward to him and Richard for the Vuelta...

I'm for one am enjoying it.

Graham sounds like the management realised late on that they needed a facilitator/chair type character and they bought one in. I think he's doing ok but wouldn't be surprised if he disappears until next year (not sure what his other business interests are).

For Mitch this gig complements his other media stuff nicely as his partners are too busy working on the race. As his arc becomes more 'life after the peloton' I wouldn't be surprised to see him shift more towards TV work at this time of year.

Richard sounds like he's a good fit to be there for the long haul. He has a subtlety of wit that works well with Friebos. Eventually it'll be less weird to hear Daniel say 'Richard' and not hear the buffalo.

Daniel has many strengths: chairing debate isn't one of them. Think him and Lionel need to find a long term host as his vocal flaneuring can verge on rant if there's no strong 2nd or 3rd voice to reign him in.

Most of these seem to come from Daniel, who gets them for ITV and seemingly shares the recordings.

Also, I've heard Matt Stephens, who is doing the interviews for Eurosport. So the recordings are kind of second hand, which is fine, but does change the feel a little bit

This has always happened, one journo is asking the questions and all the other journos record the conversation on their mics

With Rowe, Cav & G all retiring in the next 15 months, I dont see anyone breaking into TV in the UK. Mitch has Aus of course. But SBS have a settled crew, and if they were interested in Mitch they would have approached by now.

I can see Rowe (who's already doing a bit) and Thomas having a media career. Not sure Cavendish has shown any interest in it? I suspect he'd be quite good at it though - he's intelligent, opinionated and funny, and would certainly put in the hard work to make a success of it.

Hasn’t Cav done some stuff previously on the Olympics?

Yeah he did some velodrome stuff one year. Although it may have been Commonwealth Games rather than Olympics
