Problem for Tories is, as they’ve seen with the Lib Dem’s, in FPTP, once you stop dropping below certain thresholds your seat count collapses.

The utter desperation of their tactics is rather amusing to watch. I'd dare them to try a relaunch of the Cones Hotline in the last week, even if only to give us all the laugh and something to be grateful for from the last fourteen long, long years.

Labour discovers the law of unintended consequences:
Probably one for the irony thread too 😊

Something else being what, exactly?

Labour. Pay attention now.

Nah. This is a prelude to a landslide. When that happens, the whip is less effective, because it doesn't matter as much, and there is more difficulty reigning in the opportunistic unions.
It isnt ideal, but probably preferable to the chumocracy and cronyism.
By probably, I mean most certainly,.in case you are wondering.

But what about the 'plan'? Nobody has explained it yet. All we know so far is that is it wil involve more tax and more regulation because it always does with Labour.

Doesn't matter.
Do you want me to say that slowly?
Not being these Tories is the plan. A packet of jelly babies placed on the front bench is better, because they aren't actual fuckwits.

Ah, it's the old 'doesn't matter what it is as long as it's not the nasty torwies' plan. Likely to end in disappointment...

I'm already quite disappointed. Less disappointing would be a step forward.
Starmer is no visionary. But he might help to normalise politics.
Thing is, despite being political All Bran, he has more vision than Sunak by a country mile. Sunak is currently playing boomer bingo. He has no clue.
But even he has more of a clue than Truss.
And the Patel/Bavermann/Frost/Mordant Borg collective just wants to wipe out other civilisations. Not a fan of single policy parties, personally. Particularly if they are borderline fascist.
The Tories need go get an absolute kicking then go on a recruitment drive.

I must have missed Stevo saying just one positive thing about the Tories that doesn't involve saying Labour will be worse. Oh, those halcyon days of "Get Brexit Done" as a slogan, even if it did turn out to be a bucket of pig swill left out in the sun too long on a hot day.

So the tease from last night is that the labour lead has gone from 14 to 20 with he most conservative leaning polling company...

They've turned the corner. Stick to the plan. Increase pensions.

Sextuple lock.
Compulsory chimney sweeping for 8 year olds.
Bring back corporal punishment.
Increase the times tables to 13 in the national curriculum.
Abolish double yellow lines.
Increase the speed limits everywhere by 5 mph to promote business.
Reduce taxes for Tory donors.

No. More a criticism of claiming to be in favour of one thing and doing the opposite.
Hunt was forced to invent fictional savings as well as putting up several other taxes to fund his reduction in employee NIC (not employer NIC of course).
Whichever party wins, I'd rather they stop pretending. They're going to have to put something up regardless of what they say. I'm saying whichever party gets in, but we both know it's a question of how big Labour's majority will be.

I know this is a facetious post but I do wonder how many might crop up.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -
I wouldn’t worry Stevo. With those numbers the labour left would be in opposition, not the Tories

It’s a sad day when even the debate on here has gone to mantra of ‘Labour don’t have a plan’. You’ll be trotting out the ‘our plan is working’ next.

Starmer promising vaguely to bring down net migration...
Maybe they've realised all they need to do to win votes from anti immigration voters is say they're going to do it.

I'm going to put my eternal optimist hat on and say that both main parties promising immigration control will mean the debate can get more sensible.

Well I asked you what the Labour was and I haven't seen an answer, so what I am I meant to think?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Judging by the way Aboott and Rayner bullied poor little Sir Keir in the last few days, the Labour left will be in charge.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Who is in charge now? It is either no one or a lunatic fringe isn't it?
We need balanced politics. Even if I'm left leaning I am angry at the Corbynites and now the Tories for denying the country that.

You're assuming there that it will all be plain sailing for him. The recent issues with the likes of Abbott and Rayner are just a small taster of problems to come for Starmer.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
No, I said uothread that the whip becomes ineffective and unions become opportunistic if there is a big majority. Re the former, there's always the threat of a big rebellion even if he wins every vote.
It just leads to chaos and infighting. Sound familiar?

Uh oh, Brian's getting started on Brexit again... 😉

Fascinating that this happening at the other end of the political spectrum (and again, it has actually happened it's not just a scary story) hasn't been worthy of comment from you over the last decade Stevo
