As mentioned above, Rayner has spent a lot of time trying to do just that to Tories, so it's quite amusing to see her getting a taste of her own medicine.

They might, but that's because they don't understand tax. If they think Ashcroft was dodging UK tax by not being UK tax resident in the UK, then that makes 'tax dodgers' out of the other 8 billion people who aren't tax resident in the UK either.
In any event, the issue here is as much around Rayners honesty amd transparency. Which seems to be in doubt.

The tax angle is fading away, probably because they (the tories) know it’s dodgy ground, and not very exciting. They’ve switched focus to the address on the electoral roll which arouses the DM reader because of the associated tittle tattle around Ms Rayner’s living arrangements.

Both issues are still in play, but as mentioned above what is done the damage is being caused by Rayners lack of transparency on these matters. And the more she goes with the lack of transparency approach, the longer this will be in be in public eye. Fine with me...

Well I'm part of the electorate and I am sure that I'm not the only one enjoying watching a leftie hypocrite getting hoisted by her own petard 🙂

Seems there are some'inconsistencies' in her story...

He's normally pretty sensible but that argument is pretty thin. A gas bill doesn't prove you live somewhere: it proves you pay the gas bill for that address. The property which is considered a married couple's primary residence for tax purposes does not necessarily have to be the same one at which one half of the couple is registered to vote. These two facts are independent and neither of these have to be the property at which the person spends the majority of their time. I'm more than a little surprised that still, in 2024, people can't conceive that two families merging are likely to have more complex housing arrangements. Of course, Rayner could set all this out to clarify things, but TBH it's for the people making the accusations to produce the evidence. I note one of the accusers is now claiming he's not accusing Rayner of anything: just asking questions.

It's totally drowned out the Conservative Party April messaging.

2 families merging - over 5 years. Yeah, right...

Blimey. I think I might change channels, this one's stuck on repeats.

Try the brexit thread, which is of course not repetitive at all 😀

I don't understand why the police investigation doesn't begin with the simple question, 'when did this happen?'
If its outside a statute of limitations why do anything else?

I can only assume you've not had much experience of such things. Looks like we're still stuck at no.

You dont need to have experienced it first hand to know her claim of 5 years is a bit implausible.
How many people get married to someone and immediately live apart when there was nothing to stop her improving in with her new husband? - based on her social media post from his house where she said 'I'm home', she had already done so.
And how many people describe themselves as the landlord of the house where they claim to live?
No wonder the 'Ginger Growler' hasn't been growling as much lately 🙂

We've done this already. Where she lived for part or all of that time is irrelevant for CGT. Electoral registration is unrelated to which house is considered a primary residence for tax.
Still at no.

BREAKING NEWS: Angela Rayner reported to have put out her recycling bin on the wrong day. She's a wrong 'un, for sure.

Your conversion to leftie is complete with you now defending Angela Rayner - along with quite a few other Cake Stoppers who claim not be lefties but feel a need to defend poor, defenceless Angela 'Two Homes' Rayner 😉

I know, I wasn't trying to say the two are the same. But it doesn't change my point above about the lack of transparency which is causing her PR damage. This is still the gift that keeps on giving, sorry to disappoint you and other alleged non-lefties 😊

Where have I defended her?
Grand scheme of things, I don't care if she's guilty of what you charge her for and she has to go, but I do care about billions spaffed away to Tory donors.
On the other hand you're silent about things like Jeremy Hunt's and Nadhim Zahawi's far greater oversights (or indiscretions). If you're going to be relentless in your quest for probity in public life, your time would be far better spent trying to get the spivs out of the Tory Party. For my part, I'll do my best to vote them all out.

In the absence of being able to demonstrate thstnshebhasnt done anything wrong, you're going for what a few others on here have tried - basically trying to say it's not important.

Get a grip. Or go for Hunt, who *is actually in government.
What bit of "I don't care if she goes" do you not understand?

I think it's more important that the possible next deputy Prime Minister gets a grip on her tax and electoral affairs. Otherwise she might not be the next Deputy PM.

Pfft. Carry on if you want to. You're looking as silly as James Daly, who persuaded GMP to reopen the enquiry, and now is unwilling to say what crime he thinks she has committed.

The last Labour deputy PM punched someone in the face and carried on in the role for another 6 years. Good old days.

I'd agree the lack of transparency is keeping some people interested. Lack of information always causes more speculation. I'm not sure whether this is changing any minds though. It does seem a trivial thing to be wasting time on. Would be far more interesting to hear more detail on plans to overhaul the planning system, for example.
You don't need to be a supporter to see that they are the only show in town for the next few years at least. I'm sure you are planning accordingly as well.

If guilty and she resigns, labour get a stick to beat the Tories with. After all, the current PM never came close to resigning after getting fined for his role in Partygate...
If she's innocent, well everyone ends up covered with mud.
