Donald Trump

It would be, though going on past history, Dems will keep on hoping that the Reps will do the decent thing, despite all the evidence to the contrary, and they'll never fight fire with fire.

yes, they fail consistently in this
the days of reason and consensus in the house/senate seem long ago now

Both hilarious and scary... seems he had a bit of a more of a rally.

I appreciate it probably isn't going to move the dial (well, at least not yet), but it still needs to be followed and documented, as inability to finish words or thoughts is in a different category from forgetting names. Trump will remain useful to the people who know how to pull his strings, until he can't actually articulate anything comprehensible.

Just been announced that he can run in Colorado . . .

Yes, a 9-0 decision by the SC that only Congress can use the 14th Amendment. Even the most optimistic anti-Trump legal experts aren't surprised at the ruling.
Exercising them more is Trump's claim of absolute presidential immunity, which would literally mean he could issue orders to assassinate political opponents without legal liability. They've pushed the hearing back to 22 April for that, rather than dismissing it out of hand.

That is literally what he would do if he was elected and he would probably get it voted through.
What they say now is irrelevant.

I'm probably missing something here but it looks like the Trumpster will find out who his real friends are over the next few days. Or not....

It is a weird notion to those of us of a certain age that Russia could prop up the president of the USA.
Possible? Probable? Scary?

Maybe the willing Oligarchs aren't so flush.
How would the Trump voting rednecks view a payment from a Russian?
It's sort of Al Capone. Not undone by his misdemeanours but undone by financial irregularities. Perhaps Trump will go the same way. Financial institutions obviously think he is a liability . That's significant.

TBF, the MAGA lot are cool with Russia & dictators, so they'd not bat an eyelid.

There are those marginal votes which will be key in the election.

It's possibly a promising sign that despite the three not actually still being in the race, 200k registered Republicans in Florida voted for not-Trump in the Florida primary. Haley is no centrist saviour, but I suspect she's positioning herself for a post-Trump world, and is hoping that one day the Republican Party will not be a MAGA cult.

I thought Haley was hoping Trump would be ruled out of the contest for legal reasons. Plus setting the base for a future push as you say.

That too. At least she's sticking to her guns so far, and her criticism will carry more weight than from a Democrat.

The fraud case is relevant and it is interesting he can't raise money, though not entirely unforeseen, as it will presumably distract him.
It's a huge sum of money and so presumably he will have to liquidate some major assets to pay for it. That will be distracting.
You wonder if in his infinite god complex he is tempted to use campaign funds to pay for it - that would be, if nothing else, a drag on campaign spending.

It seems he's bleeding the RNC completely dry with just his legal expenses (having turned the RNC into a shell of what it was with just Trumpists at the helm of what's left). If you follow all the court cases he's defending (or even are just trying to), you'll know that he's filing stuff daily to try to either stop or delay everything as long as possible, in the hope he can be elected and overturn all the cases with a pliant AG.

if he can't put up this bond (he only just managed the smaller one for the defamation case), i'd assume he'll try his usual delaying tactics
if that fails, just sit back and wait for the court to put a lien on his property pending seizure, freeze assets etc.
then he can start whining/raving to his gullible followers about how he's an innocent being victimised and they'll lap it up

he hasn't cash in hand, probably had put a lot up to post the first bond, that was much smaller than what he now needs
lenders/insurers see him as bad risk financially (and reputationally) and regulation limits options for using property as collateral, he really needs cash/liquid assets, not real estate

really? he's got until monday 25th, offloading a few hundred million of property tends to take a while
barring a like-minded and richer private individual putting it up, presumably in expectation of future favours, it's hard to see who'd buy even at discount, let alone trump's valuation - being found guilty of inflating his asset values is what got him into this situation
he'll just try to delay and see what happens

He'll manage, promise. Forget he's trump a minute - courts tend to give you enough time to sort funds out to pay it back.
