of course if you are attacked, you have the right to defend, that doesn’t mean the war a good thing. This particular war should have been avoided, it was clear admitting Ukraine to the EU andthen of course to Nato was a direct threat to the stability of the area. Bear in mind, at the time (2011-2013) internal support for Ukraine in the EU and further from Russia was 50% at best… it was not a good time to force things and a complete oversight.

Just to return to the actual subject of the thread...
It appears that the business that offered the surety for his $175m appeal bond only has $26m in cash, and isn't registered in NY either.

Yes but that company has been valued* at eleventy jiztillion dollars and is good for it.

Putin is a dictator that bumps off people at will and coupled with the suppression of dissent, doesn't allow Russians any democratic freedom. Russia invaded a sovereign state and continues to bomb Ukraine including Hospitals, civilians and vital services.
The Chinese communist party is a dictatorship which is currently running Uyghur concentration camps as well as recently banning the teaching of any language that is not Mandarin. Their complete dismantling of the Hong Treaty (The Hong Kong Basic Law) and the suppression of Cantonese free will and democracy is abhorrent. I fear for Taiwan.
I can stand on a street corner and spout whatever I want as long as it's within our laws. Stand on a soap box in St Petersburg or Tiananmen square and do the same and see how long you last. I do not know why you want to go to a shopping mall in the US in the first place and although I consider myself 'western', that does not mean I support US foreign policy or espouse their culture.
Israel's actions are not fully supported by the west. It's a very complex situation but I also see both sides. Hamas is an insidious organisation. If I was an Israeli and my son was a hostage or killed as a hostage, I would want to crush Hamas. Hamas have used Palestinians as human shields and used Hospitals as cover. The bombardment by Israel has come at massive human cost. They have probably killed 10,000 humans for every Hamas militant.
I can say all of the above because I live in the free west.

I feel a Trump led administration* would want to go that way… they just do it differently. They let you say what you want, but then they accuse you of spreading fake news and leave you in the hands of one of the way too many maniacs with guns. It would be interesting to see what will be the government official line on the Capitol Hill riots should Trump get back into power.

But you would be able to say it and only a relatively few loons are taken in my his 'fake news' rhetoric.

Have to admit Trump must have some stamina to be trying to become President again whilst fighting off all the legal cases against him. It must take an incredible ego / sociapathic character to put yourself through that. It really does make you wonder what he is looking to get out of it (possibly using the Presidency to protect himself from the legal stuff but a lot of the legal stuff has probably only come out due to him becoming President in the first place).

Maybe you are right and maybe I am overplaying how much of a change he will bring… but then again, I think he will have to protect himself even more so than before.
Would I say these things on an American forum, living in the mid west, under a Trump administration? Probably not and having official freedom of speech, but in practice being scared of the consequences, is like not having it at all.
Still think he will lose, but I also thought Brexit didn’t have a chance…

Does he have a choice?
I thought presidency was his way to legal immunity for 4 years, with a view to corrupt enough people that he doesn’t have to go to jail afterwards. He might even think that he doesn’t have much longer than 4 years in the tank… he must weigh well over 20 stones, he must have high blood pressure, must take medications for his heart, might have diabetes… how long can he realistically last?

some foreign sites talk about a behind the scenes done deal in case Trump comes into power.
Ukraine surrenders the occupied territories and gets immediate Nato membership… I wonder if Putin would sign up to that.

don't underestimate the role of trump's ego
he's a multiple failure who's managed to amass wealth and influence through fraud, lawyers, fortuitous publicity, craven politicians and exploiting suckers
he knows it too, which must really burn, look at how he couldn't even handle things like not winning the 2016 popular vote and the low turn out for his inauguration, he just can't accept his failures

The US has been interfering with politics in South and Central America as long as time immemorial. Actually, it was in the 1940's that the Truman Doctrine was brought about to fight Communism - anywhere/ Anywhere where there was a perceived threat to the United states and this included South America. I refer to my post above in that I do not condone US foreign policy. It's even written into the constitution and it is incumbent on any US president that he has to pursue this.
The bit in bold is significant:
Historian Eric Foner writes that the doctrine "set a precedent for American assistance to anticommunist regimes throughout the world, no matter how undemocratic, and for the creation of a set of global military alliances directed against the Soviet Union."
Similar to the Eisenhower doctrine. The Americans love their doctrines:
- 1823: Monroe Doctrine
- 1842: Tyler Doctrine
- 1900: Roosevelt Doctrine
- 1932: Stimson Doctrine
- 1947: Truman Doctrine
- 1957: Eisenhower Doctrine
- 1961: Kennedy Doctrine
- 1965: Johnson Doctrine
- 1969: Nixon Doctrine
- 1980: Carter Doctrine
- 1981: Kirkpatrick Doctrine
- 1984: Weinberger Doctrine
- 1985: Reagan Doctrine
- 1990: Powell Doctrine
- 1999: Clinton Doctrine
- 2002: Bush Doctrine
- 2002: Rumsfeld Doctrine
- 2016: Obama Doctrine

Do you think if Mexico had joined the list of unfriendly states.. and after failed attempts to murder a leader and instate a US friendly puppet… is it conciveable they would have sent the tanks in?

It's not all bad:
The bugs are beneficial to the environment, acting as natural tree gardeners. The holes they leave behind when they emerge from the ground help aerate the soil and allow for rainwater to get underground and nourish tree roots in hot summer months. The slits they make in trees can cause some branches to break, and the leaves then turn brown in a process known as “flagging,” which is a kind of natural pruning. When the branch grows again, the fruits it yields will tend to be larger. When they die, the cicadas’ rotting bodies provide nutrients that trees need.

What Sungod says is true. However it is not one of Dave’s best, even if it is also true. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I guess Trump isn't looking forward to proving his innocence.

Love that he is trying to get a judge removed because his daughter worked for the Biden campaign in 2020 yet he is trying to fill the Supreme Court with judges that will do his bidding. The overt links between the legal system and politics in the US are crazy.

Yup. It's getting clearer that the Trump-appointed Judge Cannon is really working very hard to stymie the trial into his pretty blatant attempts to corrupt Georgia election officials.

Does he own a mirror, or is someone having a joke at his expense?
