That's why I like it - and quite a few of the other Islay malts. Peaty, smokey, seaweed-ey etc. I suppose those sorts of whisky are a bit marmite.

Getting myself sorted to do the French equivalent of turkey curry... the rest of the chicken portions went into a garlic-heavy mixture of onions, lardons, mushrooms and cream, served up with mashed potatoes & carrots. Now just have to get the rationing right so my fridge ends up empty in five days.

I have to say there is nothing I fancy more after a few days of British Christmas food than a proper spicy curry.
Use up the turkey, nice lime pickle, nice rita, excellent. I’ve got quite good at curries over the years.
Always hits the spot.
I guess I’m a bit of a chili head now. I really miss it.

That is brilliant.
Though my Spaniel would have wondered why a) the boy didn't get in the water and b) would have probably jumped in and got it.
Not as intelligent as the Alsatian but same outcome.

Someone I've never met doing line-drawing/watercolours of a couple of my photos from a ride last week. How he catches the spirit of the photos so economically in these is a thing of wonder, at least for me, as I'm utterly useless at drawing.

A friend of mine gave up her job to do TV ‘supporting artist’ (extra) work earlier in the year. I’ve seen her in quite a few things but last night she “popped up” in a BBC Wales production about the Viagra trials playing one of the nurses alongside Joanna Page. I’m hoping I get to see her before all the inappropriate jokes get done. Her half sister was also in it as one of the main characters.

Yup indeed. And in return, I asked him if I could share his paintings on my page, with the link for his blog, which he was more than happy with. I only get annoyed if people don't ask - I put my stuff on Farcebook in the knowledge it will be shared, but I do like to be asked if people are going to use it for anything else, especially if I get a whiff that it's more than just enthusiasm to share the love of the place, and is for something commercial.
A good friend of mine took a few truly spanking photos of a Canadian holiday, and the company he'd booked it with asked if they could use a couple of images... he said "Yes, for a fee of £xxx". They didn't use them.

Hitch-hiked for the first time in my life, thanks to the SNCF website that was utter fiction. Mind you, I should have guessed that 1 janvier in France is problematic.
Anyway, only had to wait about 2 minutes... one car stopped, but was only going 8km, then the next one stopped, with a very charming 30ish-y-o female driver who took me 40km to Crest (that's a place, not a euphemism), from where I was picked up by my host for the night, ready for tomorrow morning's early train.

And now I've discovered that my chauffeuse was a Green politician in the National Assembly, Marie Pochon. She was driving a small hybrid, BTW, and was going on holiday today to some Spanish island by train and ferry, rather than flying.

Having completed my tax return I thought I had a bill of nearly £1k which annoyed me a bit as I thought I'd calculated last year's payment on account well and no longer get any payment outside PAYE. I then noticed that was just the tax for the year and that I had overpaid by several hundred that I can now claim back. Obviously it was my own money but it still feels like a windfall and even more so after thinking I had to find some money to pay them originally.

Getting through the Christmas period with our new 3 weekly (plus an extra day) refuse collection with out half size 120l bin and still being able to shut the lid. Makes me laugh when I hear people in England getting stressed that they might be going to fortnightly collections. That’s a sixth of the weekly volume we had available when we moved here 24 years ago.

We're putting our 240l wheelie bin (general waste) every 4 weeks - family of 4.
It's been a fortnightly collection here for 7 years.

Seemed a bit unwise before I got to where she said she'd take me (that's not a euphemism either), and presumptuous afterwards. She's also 26 years younger than me, and scarily I'm considerably closer in age to the 75-year-old who collected me from Crest.
Plus I'm a coward.

As a lapsed PC Gaming addict I finally took the plunge and bought a Steam Deck (basically a handheld games console which is actually just a PC, specced to run PC Games).
I haven't really properly played a PC Game since 2005/6 and I am buzzing with excitement as it's just arrived through the post.
I don't even know where to start with choosing which game to play first!
