Fantastic rides by Becky and dont forget Elonor, only 18 and won gold :D I am currently in Majorca with the next crop of welsh youngsters :D 14 of them, trying to keep them calm and take it bit easy as they are all buzzing after hearing the results. Great bunch and pleasure to ride with. Some future champs here for sure. becky and Elonor are great inspiration to these and like Pross said they will look forward to seeing the medals :D Hope Jess recovers well and teams up with Becky soon also, good pairing for the team sprint.

Piece about the family in today's Times.

Just skimmed through it, will read properly

Basically 5 sisters, 4 of whom have the potential to be top class athletes. The 5th sister was born with 'water on the brain' (Hydrocephilis ?) and is now 17, AFAIK that's a remarkable achievement in it's own right.

Dad seems very competitive without being a c0ck. Maybe a cliché but having a handicapped child means the whole family realises what's really important...

  • Yeah, I read that too this morning. Very very inspirational.

Talking of fathers, compare Becky's dad to Vicky P's. VP never stood a chance of being totally well-balanced, thanks to him.
  • High praise for Becky from the big fella, Shane Sutton

High praise from an even bigger fella

  • It's a shame that after another great female display of sporting prowess that we find it's necessary to highlight gender disparity in the sport. For some unknown reason the commonwealth games will not see a Team Sprint or Keirin for women. http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2013/fe ... NETTXT3487

Its unbelievable. Just 2 years after the first Olympics to have parity between men and womens events. Any argument that there wouldnt be enough countries to field womens TP or Keirin teams, wont wash either.

This was covered in the Times article mentioned above. Becky James' father is actively campaigned to have this changed.

Is there strength and depth in the women's sport to have the same programme as the men?

Do they have to have the same events (or number of events) for it to be equal?

Edit - apologies - posted before reading the Guardian link - my bad.

The irony being that in Dehli, Scotland won the silver in the TS medal behind Australia.
As for the Keirin, it's fair to assume that all those taking part in the sprint would line up.

It's also my understanding that there is no Women's Team Pursuit.
No UK, but we have the 3 English girls, plus Wales could field a decent squad, (note 3 World Cup medals, this year) Australia, NZ and Canada.
Pretty much the World champs line up.
